2 Why Hammerson? The programme compliments our general approach to recruitment where we look to employ and develop talent at all levels in the company. Through the programme, we are able to support APC pathways in Commercial Property Practice or Planning and Development. Your Development We are committed to providing graduates seeking RICS qualification with a rewarding development programme. You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of Hammerson s business divisions including shopping centres and out-of-town-retail, affording you a unique experience covering development, asset management, leasing and sustainability. Working with the graduates has not only enabled them to develop their workplace skills and widen their general business knowledge, but they have also brought new perspectives to our asset management team. 3 What Do Our Current Graduates Say? Dani Moyles Current Graduate Surveyor I have just joined Hammerson and am doing my first rotation in the Retail Parks team. I completed some work experience at Hammerson in 2011 through the Sociable Surveyors scheme and after that knew that I would love to work here. I graduated in July from Cambridge where I studied Land Economy. Tom Webster Current Graduate Surveyor I joined Hammerson in September 2012 after successfully completing the Hammerson graduate assessment process. I studied Geography for my undergraduate degree, then did my Masters in Real Estate at Reading University. Graduate Q&A: 1. Why Property? DM: I have always liked the tangible aspect of property and the fact that you can see a project from start to finish and this in turn exposes you to many different professions. It allows you to gain a breadth of experience whilst training before deciding in which area you would like to specialise. TW: Property is a people-orientated business and this is one of the reasons why I wanted to pursue a career in property as I am a sociable person who enjoys working in team environments. I was also drawn to the idea that working in property is a combination of problem-solving, analysis and interaction with people and that there is great diversity in terms of jobs and roles within the industry. Arguably the underpinning reason why I chose a career in property is the fact that I will constantly be working with something that is tangible and part of the built environment which means there is opportunity to get outside the office! 4 2. Why Hammerson? DM: When I did work experience at Hammerson it seemed that everyone was very passionate about their jobs and for making Hammerson a success. In terms of training, I think Hammerson offers you more hands on experience from a very early stage, which is the best way to learn. (And I like shopping). TW: The Hammerson Graduate Programme offers an unrivalled level of exposure to the industry and provides a rare opportunity for a graduate to start their career client side. I was also attracted to Hammerson due to the outstanding reputation the firm has and that I would be working alongside highly established property professionals. 3. What have you enjoyed most / are you most looking forward to? DM: I am currently in the retail parks team and am looking forward to getting out and seeing some of the assets that I will be working on. TW: One of the best parts to being a graduate at Hammerson is the high level of responsibility we are given from an early start which has enabled me to take an active role in a number of really exciting projects. I ve particularly enjoyed being part of the asset management team; working on value-add initiatives on schemes such as Brent Cross, Victoria Quarter and Manor Walks. 4. How did you find the application process? DM: I found the application process tough but fair. TW: Whilst the process was, as expected, challenging and rigorous, it did allow me to get to know the company much better and reaffirmed my view that I really wanted to work here. I was particularly impressed by the number of senior directors that were involved in the process and how friendly everyone was. 5. And finally... Do you have any advice for graduates who are currently applying? DM: I think Hammerson is very different to many of the other companies that you may be applying for, so make sure that you really tailor your application to Hammerson s business and have awareness of what is happening in the retail sector. TW: Make sure you research the company and familiarise yourself with some of the Hammerson schemes. Graduate Scheme

5 What Are We Looking For? We are looking for outstanding graduates seeking to assume responsibility at an early stage in their career. You will be self-driven, highly motivated to create your own opportunities, analytical and numerate, with good commercial acumen, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in the retail property industry. We will also expect you to have an understanding of the APC. To apply you will need a minimum of 3 A levels (grade A-B) and a 2:1 degree (or predicted) or a Masters from a RICS accredited course. 6 How To Apply... Please submit a CV with a covering letter in writing to: graduate.recruitment@hammerson.com by midday on Friday 15 th November 2013, detailing your academic history, work experience/internships and your motivation for pursuing a career in property. Interviews and Psychometric testing: Interviews will take place weeks commencing 6 th and 13 th January If you have been successful in reaching this stage, you will be informed no later than 6 th December Assessment centre: The assessment centre will take place week commencing 3 rd February You will be advised whether you have been shortlisted and invited to attend an assessment centre no later than 24 th January Graduate Scheme
