6 01 Our Story After retiring from a swimming career that took me to the Olympics as a member of the Australian Swim Team, I began to pursue a career as a personal trainer. It was great helping people to get fit and healthy but many people came to me with injuries that they wanted to fix and I found the gym equipment and environment was not conducive to helping people to get fit in a safe and effective manner. My wife Tanya who was also a high level swimmer, was treating as a sports Physiotherapist and found it to be rewarding, but felt she could do so much more to help people by preventing them from getting injured in the first place rather than just fixing their ailment with hands on treatment. In 2002, we were presented with the opportunity to rent a small space in a local gymnasium that was earmarked to become a garage. We saw this as the perfect spot for a Pilates studio, and a way to combine our passion for helping others with our passion for health and fitness.

7 For over seven years we instructed Pilates studio workouts and matwork classes morning, noon and night. Along the way, we helped tens of thousands of people to tone up, get fit and to transform their bodies with Pilates. By 2009, the waitlist to get into our studio was months long and we felt that we just had to open a larger studio and so the first Studio Pilates concept studio was opened. Today, that same studio helps over 800 members each week to transform their bodies and to feel better about themselves both inside and out. From this success, we offer you the opportunity to join the Studio Pilates network and enjoy the same rewarding and life-changing journey that we experienced by helping others through Pilates. At our headquarters, we speak to many people on a daily basis excited about the prospect of owning their own studio. The process we go through to get potential franchisees into their very own studio has many steps, and much is dependent on your ability to work through the process with speed and efficiency, so that we can move through the steps with ease. We are keen to see the right people become members of the Studio Pilates International team and become successful. The key in ultimately becoming a franchisee is to be diligent and precise throughout the process, and to work through each step with accuracy.

21 1. You enquire about a Studio Pilates International franchise You ve heard about us and you feel that being a franchisee would be great. You ve taken the very first step, well downe. 2. Complete and return the franchise application & confidentially form. Once we have reviewed your application form and assessed whether you have what it takes, we will contact you to conduct a telephone interview. 3. Telephone interview At this stage we will want to find out a little more about you and make sure that we both agree there is a potential opportunity worth pursuing. 4. Meet with the Studio Pilates International team At the interview stage we will go through a questionnaire that will allow us to get to know you, to assess your strengths and weaknesses and to answer any questions you may have.

Receive draft franchise documentation Once we both feel that you are ready to proceed we will issue you with your franchise documentation, which will include a disclosure document, franchise agreement and a copy of the franchising code of conduct. You will also be provided with various other confidential information. The legal documents and other information will be need to be referred to during your due diligence period. 6. Due diligence period (minimum 14 days) We will provide you with all the information you need in order to review the franchise documentation and financial information with your legal and financial advisors if your require. 7. Receive franchise agreement sign and return with franchise fee At this point you will be issued with a franchise agreement for signing and make payment of the franchise fee. 8. Work with Studio Pilates International to source and secure a site One of the many keys to making a Studio Pilates International studio successful is the location. We may already have some pre selected and approved sites available but you may know your area well and there may be locations we ve missed. In this stage we work

23 together to find the best position for the best price to ensure success. Once this is selected you then sign your lease, you pay your fit out fee and the real fun begins. 9. Pilates instructing and business training commences You will be given a 5 week training and induction program. It comprises of business, technical, administrative, and practical components. You will continue to gain experience after this 5 week training program in an existing studio whilst your studio fit out is completed in addition to promoting your opening studio in your local area. 10. Fit out of your studio in the Studio Pilates International style We organise the fit out and construction of your new studio in the elegant and luxurious style synonymous with the Studio Pilates International brand. 11. Work together to prepare for studio opening We work with you to help you to recruit staff (if applicable), train staff, and the marketing and promotion of your studio opening. 12. Open for business Congratulations you now own your first Studio Pilates International studio! We provide you with support, training, marketing assistance and more now and in the future.
