1 Your Bookstore. Your way. As the official Bookstore serving NC State University, we deliver exceptional value, service, and convenience. Use this guide to learn how to access all of our ground-breaking initiatives. Enjoy cost savings when you use our new features price comparison shopping and textbook rentals! Did you know? Proceeds generated through the Bookstore are returned to the University for need-based financial aid programs. WELCOME guide
2 Your Bookstore. Your way. Online Price Comparison New this year! In order to help students control the cost of course materials, NC State Bookstores has implemented a new price comparison feature on our website. Students may comparison shop and purchase course materials from a variety of sources. This dynamic new feature will ensure that students receive the best prices available from the Bookstore or an alternate source. Textbook Rentals & ebooks NC State Bookstores offers more choices to save you money! NC State Bookstores offers multiple textbook formats including new and used textbooks, ebooks, rental books, and custom published books. Simply choose the format that best suits your learning style and budget. Sales Tax Holiday - Shop Now, Pay Later Option! We make it easy! Shop now and pick up your order during move-in weekend. We ll process your order during the Sales Tax Holiday weekend August 3-5, 2012 saving you 6.75 percent! If you prefer to have your books shipped, that s available too. Just remember that orders shipped prior to the Sales Tax Holiday will not qualify for tax savings. Textbooks and computers can be ordered online in advance of or during Sales Tax Holiday for tax savings! Financial Aid Accepted Online & In Store The Bookstore will defer payment of online and in-store textbook orders for students who receive financial aid or academic scholarship funds. The cost of the order will be deferred to the University Cashier s office for processing. Students who wish to use academic scholarships or financial aid as payment may order textbooks online any time before August 6, After that date, all financial aid orders must be handled in store. Students who receive athletic scholarships or sponsorships (VA/VR/Services for the Blind/WIA) should process all purchases in-store. Only items fulfilled by NC State Bookstores are eligible for this payment method at checkout. Facebook and Twitter Did you know? Access special savings on everything from textbooks to NC State logo apparel. We update our Facebook and Twitter pages whenever we have a special event. On Facebook, search for NC State Bookstores and on Twitter search for NCSUbookstores.
3 Save time and money when you follow these steps: q Register for courses during orientation Incoming students should register for courses during New Student Orientation. Once registration has been completed, click the TEXTBOOK link in MyPack Portal to create a personalized BOOKLIST. This list is created using Registration and Records course schedules and the Bookstore s textbook database. If you have a late orientation, use the MY COURSE CATALOG option instead to create your booklist. q View textbooks in Mypack Portal Online textbook ordering is available through MyPack Portal or directly from the website. All textbook orders are processed in the order in which they are received, packaged and held for students to pick up during move-in weekend. The Bookstore will defer payment of online and in-store textbook orders for students receiving financial aid, loans or scholarships. See our website for details. q Pick your format Will it be an ebook, rental, used or new textbook, or custom printed book? Make your selection for each textbook item on your BOOKLIST. q Pick up your 2012 Common Reading Book Get your copy of the 2012 Summer Common Reading book: It Happened on the Way to War: A Marine s Path to Peace by Rye Barcott. Incoming freshmen will be expected to read the text prior to arriving in August. Each college has different expectations of their students regarding the Common Reading, some will have a related assignment, blog entry, or small group discussion opportunity, for example. The cost of the book is covered by your student fees, so you will not need to pay at pick up. Students will be able meet the author during convocation this fall. q Check out the laptops and software at the Bookstore If you are considering a computer purchase, be sure to see the selection at the Bookstore and online. With academic pricing and the sales tax holiday weekend, you can score a really good deal! q Make your decisions before the sales tax holiday The North Carolina Sales Tax Holiday is August 3-5, Shop in-store or online to avoid paying 6.75 percent sales tax on course materials and textbooks. In most cases, Fall orders for textbooks and computers can remain unprocessed until Sales Tax Holiday, enabling students to order their books during New Student Orientation. The law changes slightly each year, so check the Bookstore s website prior to ordering your textbooks and computers. q Pick up your order during move-in weekend This is super easy and quick! We ll have your order ready and waiting for you during move-in weekend. All you ll need is your student ID card to claim your order.

Student Support Center NC State Bookstores and the Office of Information Technology operate a free walk-in student support center to assist with troubleshooting issues related to bookstore-purchased hardware and software. The support center is located in the West Dunn Building on main campus. Warranty and hardware support for all computers purchased through NC State Bookstores Computer software and ResNet support Virus and spyware removal Network/wireless issues The Student Support Center is open: Monday-Friday 8am - 7pm Saturday Noon - 5pm For computer repairs visit: or call: HELP (4357), option 1 Minimum Computer Specifications for NC State Below are the minimum specifications NC State recommends for a personally owned computer. We recommend business-class laptops because they can stand up to the stress of student use, have a lower incidence of repair, and superior life span. Consumer-level equipment is not robust enough to meet the evolving needs of a student. 5 Important Order Deadlines Apple, Dell and Lenovo order lead times may be ten days to four weeks during the backto-school season. To ensure you receive your order on time and at the best possible price, NC State Bookstores recommends following these ordering guidelines: Tax Holiday Weekend - To take delivery of a computer during Sales Tax Holiday (August 3-5, 2012) NC State Bookstores must receive the order by Friday, July 6, Sales Tax Holiday orders will be accepted at any time prior to the end of the Sales Tax Holiday. Move-In Weekend - To pick up an order during move-in weekend, August 10-12, 2012, NC State Bookstores must receive the order by Wednesday, July 11, Home Delivery - Customers may request an order be shipped to their residence for an additional fee of $40 (for UPS Ground shipment only, next day or 2nd day shipments extra, please call for a quote). Because we do not build the systems onsite, NC State Bookstores cannot guarantee delivery by a specific date. We make every effort to meet requested delivery dates and advise customers of any delivery delays. Order times and deadlines for Apple, Dell and Lenovo placed through the manufacturers websites may vary from NC State Bookstores recommendations. Why is selection limited to these Apple, Dell and Lenovo models? NC State Bookstores will only sell computer systems that meet or exceed the University s Office of Information Technology Recommendations. These business class laptops have been examined extensively by experienced OIT professionals and are considered to be the most reliable mobile computing systems available. Laptop Purchasing Recommendations NC State Bookstore partners with NC State s Office of Information Technology (OIT) to offer select laptop configurations that meet the evolving needs of NC State University course work. All NC State students, faculty and staff may take advantage of this program to receive academic discounts from select computer manufacturers. Models are currently on display at NC State Bookstores Computer Connections Department and available to compare at: How to Order: When ordering, you will be asked if you want to reserve this computer for NC State Sales Tax Holiday during the check-out process. To qualify, you will be asked for payment information. Sales Tax Holiday orders can be placed through August 5 and will be processed during Sales Tax Holiday on August 3-5, If you prefer not to wait, you may also place an order for immediate processing. North Carolina Sales Tax Holiday is August 3-5, In order to participate, customers must pay for their purchase in full during the tax holiday time period. If authorized by the customer, NC State Bookstores will process the payment transaction on the customer s behalf, using the method of payment indicated on the customer s order. It is the customer s responsibility to provide a viable method of payment at time of order to obtain tax holiday savings. It is not necessary for customers to take delivery of their computers during sales tax holiday to take advantage of the tax savings, provided they have made the aforementioned payment arrangements. Please note that orders cannot receive tax holiday savings if they are picked up prior to August 3, Not all Items Are Tax Exempt The State of North Carolina has specific exceptions regarding computer hardware, software and peripherals. NC State Bookstore will make every effort to ensure customers receive the full tax holiday benefit on all eligible items purchased, but cannot be held liable for unforeseen changes to the legislation. We Carry a Large Selection of Hardware, Software and Accessories When placing an order for a laptop computer, be sure to browse through our online inventory.
