1 Plans for Monday, October 07, 2013 Students will reinforce comparing and ordering decimals, fractions and percents by playing Paper Plate Olympics [Integrated] use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to solve problems involving fractions and decimals;[7.2b] [Integrated] select and use appropriate operations to solve problems and justify the selections[7.2f] [Integrated] select appropriate operations to solve problems involving rational numbers and justify the selections;[8.2a] [Integrated] use appropriate operations to solve problems involving rational numbers in problem situations;[8.2b] [Integrated] determine the reasonableness of a solution to a problem.[7.2g] Students will review HW from the weekend on problem solving with rational numbers; and solve questions from TEKSing Toward STAAR covering 8.4A, 8.2A and 8.2B.

2 Plans for Tuesday, October 08, 2013 Students will review their understanding of converting between percents, fractions and decimals; and comparing and ordering percents, fractions and decimals. HW: Study for test on Wednesday [Integrated] represent multiplication and division situations involving fractions and decimals with models, including concrete objects, pictures, words, and numbers;[7.2a] [Integrated] express numbers in scientific notation, including negative exponents, in appropriate problem situations.[8.1d] Students will draw models representing multiplication of fractions; students will focus on expressing numbers using scientific notation. HW: Worksheet on modeling multiplication and scientific notation, due Wednesday

3 Plans for Wednesday, October 09, 2013 TEST: Students will demonstrate their understanding of converting between percents, fractions and decimals; and comparing and ordering percents, fractions and decimals. [Integrated] approximate (mentally and with calculators) the value of irrational numbers as they arise from problem situations (such as π, 2)[8.1C] Students will approximate the value of irrational numbers. HW: Worksheet on Exploring Squares, Square Roots and Irrational Numbers, due Thursday

4 Plans for Thursday, October 10, 2013 Students will: -review test from Wednesday -work on Think Through Math website -receive Percent, Fraction, Decimal Memorizer chart (students must memorize these common fraction-decimal-percent conversions. Students will take a timed quiz on Friday, Oct. 18, they will only have 3 minutes) No school for kids on Friday. Teacher prep day.
