1 Angel Troubleshooting Internet Explorer 8 This help aid is designed as an Angel troubleshooting guide for Microsoft Internet Explorer v8. It demonstrates how to clear the browser history, enable cookies, enable Java, enable JavaScript, enable pop-ups for Angel, refresh the cache, add Angel as a trusted site, and it address security downloading issues. Clearing Recent Browser History Open Internet Explorer 8. In the menu bar open the Tools menu and click Internet Options (reference figure 1). The Internet Options dialog box appears. On the General tab, under the Browsing history section, click the Delete button (reference figure 2). Figure 1 Figure 2 The Delete Browsing History dialog box appears (reference figure 3). Check the boxes next to Temporary Internet files and Cookies. It is highly recommended to check all the boxes except for the Preserve Favorites website data option at the top. Once the necessary selections have been made, click the Delete button to finish the process.

3 Enable Java Using Internet Explorer 8, in the menu bar open the Tools menu and click Manage Add-ons (reference figure 6). The Manage Add-ons dialog box appears. Under the Add-on Types menu, select Toolbars and Extensions. At the bottom, set the Show: option, to All add-ons (reference figure 7). Figure 6 Figure 7 In the right pane, look for the developer Sun Microsystems, Inc. and a plugin titled Java Plug-in (reference figure 8). If the plugin is listed, make sure the plugin is enabled. As of the writing of this document, the current Java release is titled Java Plug-in 1.6.0_30. The Internet zone is selected by default. Under the Security level for this zone section, click the Default level button and click the Apply button (reference figure 10).

5 In the Pop-up Blocker Settings dialog box, type in the Angel website of angel.starkstate.edu and click the Add button (reference figure 13). 7 The Trusted sites dialog box appears. Type in the Angel website and click the Add button (reference figure 19). The Angel website appears in the Websites box below. Click the Close button. Figure 19 Security Warning Issue Downloading Files Due to the Security settings, sometimes when attempting to download a file within Internet Explorer 8, the browser blocks the download attempt (reference figure 20). Figure 20 To bypass the security warning, click on the Information Bar and click the Download File option (reference figure 21). Figure 21 Security Warning Mixed Content Issues The mixed content warning occurs when a page within Angel references an unsecure resource. The reason for the warning is that Angel is a secured website and such references create vulnerabilities that put the privacy and integrity of the otherwise secure page at risk. By default, Internet Explorer 8 will not load unsecure resources while on a secure website, such as Angel.
