1 Hosting a Live Classroom When hosting a Live Classroom session using Adobe Connect, there are several very important steps to follow. Below you will find instructions for: Accessing the Live Classroom Enabling the audio for the session Setting up your webcam Recording the session Ending the session Troubleshooting The Adobe Connect Live Classroom Tool can be accessed via the left hand navigation bar: 1. Enter the live classroom Select from list of available/scheduled sessions. Once you have entered the Live Classroom you should go through the "Audio Setup Wizard located in the upper left-hand corner of your screen - click on "Meeting" and then select "Audio Setup Wizard." 2. Enable the audio Before you start your meeting you will need to complete a couple of steps to ensure that your audio has been turned on, and that the audio for the participants has been turned on. 2 Select Start Meeting Audio. A box will pop up, and you should check off all 4 boxes, then click Start. You will get an Audio Bridge Connected prompt and hear a message that audio is enabled. Click on the phone icon, and Connect to my audio. A box called Join Audio conference will open. From here you have two options: Option 1: Dial in, and enter * Room number # Option 2: Use computer (headset) If choosing Option 1, you will follow the directions for dialing in that appear and then click Cancel, as shown below: 2

3 If choosing Option 2, you will then click Join, as shown below: 3. Set up your webcam Before you start your meeting you will need to turn on your webcam, and enable Webcams for Participants. First click on the Webcam Icon located on the top toolbar, and select Start My WebCam. Then click on Start Sharing (otherwise no one will be able to see you). Next go back over to the Webcam icon and click on it, and then select Enable Webcam for Participants. 3

4 4. Record the meeting Click on Meeting and then select Record Meeting. If you want to stop the recording, just click on the red button that is located in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Click Stop Recording. 5. End the meeting Remember to Stop the Recording when the meeting is over. Remember to End Meeting under the Meeting tab to close the meeting room. If you need to leave the meeting, but do not wish to end it, just click on Exit Adobe Connect. Then you can go back and rejoin the meeting when you are ready. 6. Tell participants how to access archives Click the Options Menu Button next to the session whose archive you wish to view. Select view information. One or the links that appears on the page is recordings. When you click recordings a list of available archived sessions will appear for that room. Tips and Troubleshooting Please note that using Mozilla Firefox as your web browser is preferable. If you are experiencing audio issues, hosts should tell participants to either mute their phone or microphone. Regardless of your audio connection method, please do not use external speakers because this often causes feedback and distortion. This means you should not use a speaker phone of your computer s external speakers. Instead, use a handset or headphones. You may wish to inform the participants that they can use the text Chat window, if they are having issues with their microphones. 4

5 Set Status icon: This icon looks like a person, and is located in the top toolbar area (screenshot). You may want to instruct the participants to use the raise hand feature when they have a question. This will allow you to call on the person when you are ready to have him/her speak, which will eliminate students talking over one another. When you click on Layout you will want to make sure the Collaboration layout is selected, which should already be set as it is the default setting. Also, just keep in mind that any of the pods (boxes) within the Live Classroom can be moved around or resized by clicking and dragging form the corner of the box, so if your whiteboard pod is large it could be hiding or covering the video pod. You can also hide any of these pods by click on the pod option menu that is located in the upper right hand corner of each pod.
