We are really having an old fashioned New England winter. I actually am a winter fan but I hope those of you who are not are surviving relatively well. A huge thank you to Assistant Music Director Sherry Thomas and to the Music Committee for putting together our fall concert program. This, our first sing a- long, was a huge success and we thank all of you for supporting us in force. We had such fun learning all the songs with the German raised singers struggling through the old American songs and vice versa for the American born and raised singers. It turned out to be a very relaxed atmosphere with great audience participation. Most likely this will be the format for future Herbst Konzerte. We are still looking for a Music Director. If you have any leads for us please call me or leave a message on the club answering machine. With or without a director we will be having a spring concert. Don't forget our monthly meetings. Progress is best made with everyone involved and your input is important to the board. We all look forward to seeing you soon. 2 Zum Geburtstag viel Glück Madeline K. Edling turns 100 years young on February 18. Madeline Karl Edling is the mother of member Richard Edling. She was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, New York. Her mother was a housewife and her father was a partner with his brothers in a plumbing and heating business. He also was the wrestling coach at Princeton University. Madeline loved swimming and diving. In her youth as a representative of the Turnverein in the Bronx she won medals for her diving. While she enjoyed golf and bowling, swimming continued to be her love and she swam with Richard in the Long Island Sound until about five years ago. She was the first administrative assistant for TOA, Tour Operators of America, and in that position traveled all over the world. In her later years she was a real estate sales person and continued working for her agency in one capacity or another until she was well into her 90's. In December 2010 Maddy moved from assistant living to nursing home services. By using all her social graces she is a favorite among the employees where she lives and she enjoys visits from Richard and her nieces. Hoch Soll ' Sie Leben - Dreimal hoch

3 THIS 'N' THAT Du, dein - Dues is Due Our Financial Secretary, Annemarie Harms reminds us that our dues for 2011 is now due. Please help so we don t have to incur additional expenses with mailings and postage. If you haven t paid your 2011 dues yet please write her a check for $35.00 and mail it to the club. Your continued support and financial assistance is sincerely appreciated. TALENT CORNER Marianne Heigemeir has a show at Ulster Savings Bank, 280 Wall Street in Uptown Kingston titled Pastel Jewels. The show runs from January 28 - March 31, 2011.

4 All County Music Festival Herman and Linda Koelmel s granddaughter fifth grader Carolin Rose Brunner will represent Woodstock Elementary School in March playing violin in the All-Ulster- County Orchestra sponsored by the Ulster County Music Educator s Association. This is Carolin s second year of participation and her musical proficiency has propelled her to be selected as First Chair. THE PERSONALS CONVALESCING: Some of our members and friends on the road to recovery include an amazing array of walking wounded, medical healers, and surgery veterans. Everyone is reportedly doing well. Recuperating from various illnesses and health related issues are: Donna Stegner, Monika Kaufmann, Gertrud Orlowsky, Ruth Miller, Earl Johnson, Oskar Benzenhoefer, Richard Edling, Trudy Brown, Ed Brown, Annegrette Barnum, Ann Schmitt, Eberhard Scheitz (husband of member Christa), and Hildegard Edling. Please keep Richard Bracklow and Hanna Condiff in our thoughts and prayers. We wish you all a rapid and successful return to good health. Gesundheit, Glück, in Gottes Segen!

5 Condolences to the families of our members and friends who are no longer with us. Former Maennerchor Officer Rudy Schlichting passed away. Henry Buser's brother passed away as did Robert Lamon's brother. Inge Martin s husband Kenneth "Buddy" Martin also passed away recently. To make our choral presentations more readily available to the general public and our seniors, our concerts will be presented on Sunday afternoons. Our Assistant Music Director and accompanist Sherry Thomas and the Music Committee are developing a wonderful program for your musical gratification. Our chorus has begun preparation for this presentation. Please plan to attend our concert as we prepare German and American, Classic and Contemporary, Spring songs for your entertainment and enjoyment. Anchorage by the Sea Ogunquit is by the sea, just over the border from New Hampshire, about 12 south of Kennebunkport and 70 miles north of Boston. We will be staying in the Anchorage Towers with quick access to the Marginal Way walking trail; a neatly paved one and a quarter mile long trail with views of the coast and cliffs. The path leads from the downtown shopping area to the fishing village in Perkins Cove. All four tour leaders have spent time in Ogunquit and will be able to help you choose what to do with your free day.

8 Anchorage Towers Ogunquit, Maine Marginal Way Walking Trail This years Christkindlmarkt will be on Friday December 2 nd and Saturday December 3 rd with the times to be determined. This traditional market/bazaar takes place in parts of Germany, Austria and Switzerland beginning at the very end of November and continuing until Christmas. We are looking for items to sell at the Crafts Table, Elves Table and Cookie Table. We welcome your participation and have set up an area at the club to store items (except the cookies of course) so that you can bring them when you wish. Please be sure all items are clean and clearly marked with your name and telephone number. If you wish to be a vendor please let me know by leaving a message at the club. Thank you. 9 FROM the ARCHIVIST Hildegard Edling - Historian/Archivist Where Were They Held??? Here's a contest for you. I haven't decided on the prize yet but there will be one. Can you name SIX venues where Maennerchor concerts have been held since the late 50's. Christmas church services are NOT included. Here are some hints: the first location was torn down, there are two schools in the mix and one locale was on a side street in mid-town. If you know the answers write them on a postcard addressed to my attention and bring or mail it to the Maennerchor. If there were more locations, tell me about them.
