3 Introduction Every school has its own story to tell. The context in which teaching and learning takes place influences the processes and procedures by which the school makes decisions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The context also impacts the way a school stays faithful to its vision. Many factors contribute to the overall narrative such as an identification of stakeholders, a description of stakeholder engagement, the trends and issues affecting the school, and the kinds of programs and services that a school implements to support student learning. The purpose of the Executive Summary (ES) is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school perceives itself and the process of self-reflection for continuous improvement. This summary is structured for the school to reflect on how it provides teaching and learning on a day to day basis. Page 1

4 Description of the School Describe the school's size, community/communities, location, and changes it has experienced in the last three years. Include demographic information about the students, staff, and community at large. What unique features and challenges are associated with the community/communities the school serves? is a public high school located in Tampa, FL near MacDill Air Force Base. Opened in 1959, the school enrollment is 1539 students, with 491 of those students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Magnet Program and 93 teachers. Our school population is diverse consisting of 9% Asian, 14% Black, 19% Hispanic, and 48% White. Within our school population, 5% of our students are ELL, 8% have an IEP, and 16% are Gifted-EP. 47.3% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Robinson High School received a school grade of "A" by the Florida Department of Education in 2013 and Robinson is ranked as a top high school nationally. Out of approximately 22,000 public high schools in the United States, it is ranked by US News and World Report as the 85th Best Magnet School in America, 468th as the Best High School in America, a "Gold Medal" School, and 26th of the Best High Schools in Florida, making it the highest ranking public school in the Tampa Area. Robinson High School received the Magnet School of Distinction Award from Magnet Schools of America The International Baccalaureate Program at Robinson High School, established in 2006 is a four-year program consisting of two years of Pre-Diploma Program classes and two years of the IB Diploma Program classes. It is a magnet program drawing students from a wide region of Hillsborough County. Admission is by application only, through the Hillsborough County Public Schools Choice/Magnet Office. Criteria used for admission into the Robinson IBP include: an academic GPA, standardized achievement test scores, and a writing sample. Students must enter the program at the beginning of 9th. grade, unless they are transferring from another IBO World school. Students attend classes with other IB students, as well as elective classes with traditional Robinson High School students. They also participate widely in sports, student government, honor societies, vocational organizations, service clubs, and fine arts programs such as band and orchestra with traditional students. To achieve a balance between homework and extracurricular activities, students are encouraged to participate in-depth in two or three extracurricular activities, as opposed to wide involvement. Mission: The Robinson High School multicultural family is committed to preparing students to meet the challenges of the future by encouraging lifelong learning, international and intercultural awareness, work and professional skills, and "Pride Through Excellence." Vision: We will provide a positive, healthy, and safe environment while promoting high expectations and providing diverse cultural experiences and valuable educational opportunities for the Robinson High School Family. Two fundamental beliefs about Robinson are: 1. We strive for success far beyond high school, so make academics a priority. 2. 7 Additional Information Provide any additional information you would like to share with the public and community that were not prompted in the previous sections. -Small School size and classes allow students to participate in a cadre of activities. -Strong focus on post-secondary education and/or career plans as evidenced by large AP and Career Technical offerings. -Tradition as a community school/third generation. -Business Industry Certifications in Adobe and Microsoft Office Software. -Partnership with MacDill Air Force Base and Industry Certification in the Computer-Aided Design -Superior Instrumental Music Programs -Academy of Travel & Tourism -Outstanding ROTC program -Athletic Achievement -International Baccalaureate (IB) Program -The Cube (College and Career Center) has been up and running in the Media Center since September, Two parents started it, Anne Eason and Meg Fernandez, as a college/career resource center. The Cube is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during school hours. The Cube has about 8 parent volunteers who meet with juniors and seniors to help the students plan for their post-high school lives. After a few months of working with students one-on-one, the parents realized that they weren't able to meet with as many students as they needed to and decided to extend their reach by creating a newsletter. So, in February of last year the parent volunteers put together The Cube's first newsletter with information about scholarships, application deadlines for college, studying for SAT/ACT, volunteerism, summer programs etc. -The Automotive Technology Program at Robinson High School meets the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) standards for Excellence. NATEF is an independent, non-profit organization with a mission to improve the quality of technician training by setting a standard of excellence for the content being delivered, the industry certification level of the instructor, and the facility. The program is taught by Mr Hambleton who started his career in Connecticut at Montesi Volkswagen. In 1988, he moved to the Tampa area and has worked at Lindell Honda until July, 2013, when he accepted the position at Robinson High School. Along the way Mr. Hambleton earned ASE Master status, as well both Volkswagen and Honda Master Tech status. Our program at Robinson is geared to help students become entry level techs or give a solid foundation for post secondary schools.
