3 Introduction Every school has its own story to tell. The context in which teaching and learning takes place influences the processes and procedures by which the school makes decisions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The context also impacts the way a school stays faithful to its vision. Many factors contribute to the overall narrative such as an identification of stakeholders, a description of stakeholder engagement, the trends and issues affecting the school, and the kinds of programs and services that a school implements to support student learning. The purpose of the Executive Summary (ES) is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school perceives itself and the process of self-reflection for continuous improvement. This summary is structured for the school to reflect on how it provides teaching and learning on a day to day basis. Page 1

It is our belief that we must prepare our students to be 21st Century Learners, we must promote lifelong learning so that our graduates are able to maintain their competitive edge in the global market place, students must achieve at high academic levels, we must provide rigorous, relevant instruction and assessment to improve student achievement. Our mission is to create a collaborative community that ensures all students achieve at high levels and graduate prepared to excel in a global society. We believe that all students will graduate high school prepared for college and careers ready to excel in a global society. We will strive to provide a strong school culture that both challenges and nurtures our students. The action components of the CSIP are: student achievement, community engagement, family engagement, student engagement and staff engagement. Page 4

Additionally, describe areas for improvement that the school is striving to achieve in the next three years. is accredited under the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. has been recognized by Sullivan University as one of the top 100 Culinary Arts programs in the nation for high school students for the past several years. students also fair well each year on industry certifications with the Pre-Nursing program at STC maintaining a 100% passage rate on the Certified Nursing Assistant Exam. Students in the school are routinely recognized for their technical skills and leadership knowledge by competing in SkillsUSA competitions. students have won the state contests many times and generally have 6-8 students who compete in the National Championships each summer. All students are encouraged to participate in an extra curricular activity by joining SkillsUSA or another organization or group from their home schools. Southside Technical Center students also give back to the community by participating community service opportunities.
