1 NCMail: Microsoft Outlook 2003 Exchange Configuration Guide Revision 1.3 7/7/2008 This document covers configuration of Microsoft Outlook 2003 for use with the NCMail Exchange system. The syntax used in this document is as follows: Boldface = Names of input fields such as text and check box names. Boldface and Italics = Input expected from user. 2 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 2 Configuring Outlook 2003 Microsoft Outlook 2003 is part of the Microsoft Office family of products. You must have an Exchange account to continue with these instructions. All users, whether they have used Outlook previously can use these instructions to setup their Exchange account. The first step in setting up Outlook 2003 is opening the Mail icon in the Control Panel. To accomplish this click on your Windows Start button, then click on Control Panel then double click the Mail icon as shown below. Control Panel

3 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 3 Some users MAY see the following screen. If so, type in Outlook for the new profile name and click the OK button. If you are not prompted for the profile name just skip to the next step below. Click on the Accounts button as shown below.

4 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 4 Click on Add a new account then click Next as shown below. Click on Microsoft Exchange Server then click Next as shown below.

5 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 5 The Exchange Server Settings screen will appear as shown below. Microsoft Exchange Server: name is mbx.ad.ncmail. Check the Use Cached Exchange Mode. User Name: is your new full address. Ex. First.Last@its.nc.gov Now click the More Settings button. This may take a few minutes. Some users MAY see the following error message shown below. This could take up to 2 minutes. This is perfectly OK. For security reasons connectivity to Exchange will be over SSL and this has to be setup before connectivity is allowed. Once the error appears click the OK button as shown below.

6 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 6 Click the OK button on the screen shown below. Now we can configure our SSL and proxy settings. Our service will be implementing Outlook Anywhere which is really RPC over HTTPS. Here s what you do. Click on the Connection tab as shown below. Check the Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP box then click on the Exchange Proxy Settings button.

7 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 7 Under the Connection settings, type mail.nc.gov for the URL as shown below. Check both boxes for fast and slow networks. Use the drop down arrow under Proxy Authentication settings and choose Basic Authentication. Now click the OK button. You will return to the Connection tab. Click the OK button as shown below.

8 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 8 You will return to the Exchange Server Settings screen. Click the Next button as shown below. NOTE: If you are an existing Outlook user you may see the following message. If so, click the Yes button to continue with these instructions. We will show you how to change the default delivery location in the steps below.

9 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 9 You should now see the Congratulations! screen shown below. Click the Finish button. *** IMPORTANT *** You are NOT really finished! Please continue below.

10 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 10 Verifying Your Default Delivery Location You will now need to verify and possibly change your default delivery location to become your Exchange account. You will not be able to do many Exchange functions if you do not do this. On the Control Panel double click on the Mail icon. Click on the Accounts button.

11 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 11 Click on View or change existing accounts then click the Next button. Your current default delivery location will be shown on the bottom left under the heading named Deliver new to the following location:. To change the default delivery location to Exchange click the drop down arrow and choose Mailbox LastName, FirstName from the drop-down choices then click the Finish button.

12 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 12 Click on the Close button then close out of the Control Panel. Go ahead and fire up Outlook. You should now be able to sign onto Exchange. When you sign into Exchange you will be prompted for your user name and password. Enter your new full address as your user name and your NCID password as your password as shown below. Press the OK button. If all is correct this should log you into Exchange. Almost there! Please continue below.

13 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 13 Removing Your Current NCMail Account Users who were using NCMail with Outlook will want to remove the old NCMail account from within Outlook. You may do this while logged into Exchange. In your All Mail Folders section of the Navigation pane you will see your old NCMail account. It will be labeled cms.ncmail.net. This will be the account that we will remove. These steps will not delete any s from the system they will simply remove this account from your Outlook client. The NCMail team will be archiving your old NCMail and removing it from the system for you. The red arrow below indicates the old NCMail account. To remove this account click on the Tools menu then click the Accounts menu as shown below.

14 NCMail: Outlook 2003 Configuration Guide 14 Click on View or change existing accounts then click the Next button. Select the cms.ncmail.net account and click the Remove button as shown below.
