We welcome all high quality abstracts related to the following three conference themes: Methodological innovations - moving beyond the established; Researching nursing interventions - moving beyond the uniqueness of nursing; Humanitus returning to the essential principles of clinical nursing care. 2 WELCOME TO MALMÖ AND MALMÖ LIVE Foto: Johan Wessman On behalf of the steering and scientific committees, we are delighted to invite you to join us at the first European conference jointly convened by the European Academy of Nursing Science and the Swedish Society of Nursing, with additional support from Malmö University and the Department of Nursing Science. The conference will be held in Malmö at the Clarion Hotel and Congress Centre: Malmö Live, 4 th 5 th July The title of our conference is: The Future Direction of European Nursing and Nursing Research. We want to engage you in a discussion that sets the scene for the next decade of nursing practice and science. Where are we now? Where are we going? We have three themes that range from science, through nursing interventions to the fundamental essence of nursing caring, a topic we have called Humanitus. We do not need to tell you just how important nursing is to the future health of the European people. At the heart of the conference, therefore, will be discussions about who we are, what we do and how we develop the evidence for our actions. With something for everyone, we hope that our conference themes will engage the scientists among you, the daily nursing practitioners and the philosophically minded. We welcome you all. We are especially happy to welcome you to the beautiful city of Malmö, the third largest town in Sweden. Malmö has a history as a genuine and proud working class town that is now emerging as Scandinavia s hippest hub. Malmö is a part of the expanding Öresunds region and joined to Copenhagen, Denmark by the mighty arching Öresund Bridge. It is a small, friendly city where you can shop until you drop or spend leisure time by the sea. We hope for beautiful weather so you can enjoy the West Harbour, Turning Torso or a nice meal at Little Square [Lilla Torg]. Methodological innovations in Nursing Research This theme is focussed on the methods for designing studies in nursing, especially new methods for collecting, analysing both studies and data, concentrating particularly on how to develop research that is programmatic that integrates data using the last techniques in mixed methods analysis. B. Researching nursing interventions This theme will explore different research perspectives on the uniqueness of nursing and nursing interventions derived from the world view of nurses themselves, and the way in which nursing interventions can be seen as part of the collaboration between people, patients and other health care providers. C. Humanitus This theme will include presentations on clinical nursing s role in addressing essential human needs including quality improvement, and returning professional nursing to its core value of fundamental care without compromising the expertise and knowledge required for excellence in nursing care. Submitting author will be sent an acknowledgement by to confirm that the abstract has been received. 3 Practical information regarding the conference Conference venue and arrival registration The conference will take place at Clarion Hotel and Congress Malmö Live, Dag Hammarskjölds torg 2, Malmö, Sweden, The conference venue is located more or less next to Malmö Central Station, just few steps from the city center of Malmö and consequently the conference venue Clarion Hotel and Congress Malmö Live is no more than a 5-minute walk from your natural arrival point, Malmö Central station. For conference participants who wish to stay at the Clarion Hotel and Congress Malmö Live we have negotiated a substantial price reduction for conference participants. We advise you to advance book in plenty of time, as the number of rooms with a reduced price are limited. Please state 2107GR when you contact them at book@ clarionlive.se to get the reduced room price. An ecological breakfast is included in the room price as is free Wi-Fi. More information about hotel booking will be available on the conference website On the website you will be able to find hotels in different price ranges, all located within walking distance from Malmö Central station and Clarion Hotel and Congress Malmö Live. We strongly recommend that you book your room in advance. Most hotel rooms in central Malmö are usually booked up in summer time. Arrival registration will be at the registration desk at the central plaza of Clarion Hotel and Congress Malmö Live. The registration desk will be open between hours on the 4 th June, 2017, the scientific programme begins at 9 o clock. Registration Online registration will be open from August 16 th, 2016 at We encourage you to register your participation as early as possible to secure a place at the welcome mingle as the number of participants is limited. Registration is binding but can be assigned to another person. If you assign your registration to another person you must contact Anna Skånberg, anna. skanberg@swenurse.se so she can make the necessary and obligatory changes. Deadlines for registration Early bird: until February 12 th, 2017 Standard fee: from February 13 th until March 17 th, 2017 Late fee: from March 18 th until May 19 th, 2017 Registration will be confirmed by and a badge will be included. It is important that you bring this badge to the conference as it ensures your admission to the conference activities. Language The official language at the conference is English. All presentations and workshops will be in English. Meals and social events The registration fee includes morning/afternoon coffee and lunch for both conference days (4 th 5 th July). A welcome mingle in the evening 4 th, July hosted by the European Academy of Nursing Science and the Swedish Society of Nursing at Clarion Hotel and Congress Malmö Live, is also included. It is used mainly for domestic flights but also receives some international arrivals. The airport bus takes about half an hour and costs SEK 105 for an adult. A taxi to Malmö costs around SEK 425. Always ask for a fixed price. The majority of European travelers for Malmö come through Copenhagen Airport which is on the Danish side of the Öresund Bridge. Öresundståg trains that stop at the airport are just a quick train ride away from Malmö Central Station and cost SEK 105 for an adult. Keep in mind that if the temporary border controls at Copenhagen Airport and Hyllie station are still in place it might delay your trip to Malmö by 30 to 45 minutes. 5 Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Workshops By attending the post-doctoral and doctoral workshops on July 4th and 5th you will have the opportunity to to discuss and learn about issues of importance for your doctoral studies and your post-doctoral career. You can choose one of four different workshops. The number of participants is limited and will be booked on a first come, first served basis.
