1 Friday 10th June 2016 Dear Parent/Guardian Waingels College Acting Principal: Tom Bartlett The purpose of this letter is to give you details of a visit that has been organised for your son/daughter s participation. The details are as follows. Visit Leader: Mrs L Verhoog Visit Name/Location: Rhineland, Germany Year Group and Subject: Year 8/9 German (current Year 7/8 students) Purpose/Relevance of Trip: This trip will enable Years 8 and 9 German students to experience German culture and to use their German in an authentic environment. We will be staying the the small town of Boppard on the banks of the Rhine river in the hotel L Europe. Day trips and excursions will include a visit to Köln where we will visit the cathedral and the Lindt chocolate factory, a cruise along the Rhine river and we will also visit a castle. There will also be opportunities to explore the town of Boppard and practise our German at a traditional Eiscafé. Days/Dates: Friday 23 rd June 2017 to Monday 26 th June 2017 Meeting Place and Time: Outside the school main reception Departure Time: TBC (early morning) Return Time: TBC (evening) Means of Transport: Coach and Ferry (Dover-Calais) Costs: 330 to include Tickets/Transport/Accommodation/Food Dress Code: Students should dress casually and appropriately for the visit. Students will need to wear sensible footwear and clothing which is appropriate for the time of year. Please return the ParentPay reply slip, along with the EV2 and Telephone Tree Consent Form to Mrs Verhoog in the Languages office by 3pm on Tuesday 28 th June. A deposit of 50 needs to be paid via ParentPay by this date also. Two further payments of 140 will be due on Friday 30 th September 2016 and Friday 27 th January Please note that for all activities the cost to parents/guardians is a voluntary contribution. Please be aware however, that if there are insufficient contributions to cover the cost of the activity, there may be no alternative but to cancel. In addition NST operate their own cancellations policy and you may be liable for costs incurred/charges if you wish to withdraw your child at a later date. 2 Unfortunately, there are very limited places on this trip. In the event that we have more people wanting to go on the trip than we have spaces for, there will be a ballot to select students. The ballot will take place the day after the closing date of Tuesday 28 th June Any students who are unsuccessful will be put on a waiting list in case those selected then drop out. Any money that has been paid to the school in advance will be refunded. On all visits students are expected to abide by the School s Behaviour Policy. Unless otherwise stated, this includes wearing correct full school uniform. In addition, students should not have mobile telephones, smart devices, MP3 players and headphones as these are all prohibited items at Waingels, at all times. When students are on any visits that take place after school hours, to speed up communication to parents, the school operates a Telephone Tree. The telephone number that you add to the Parental Consent (attached) will be the one used to contact you in the case of an emergency or delays to journeys. I, as the Visit Leader, will have the school mobile phone with me at all times and you are advised to use this if you need to make contact. The number for this will be made available to you nearer the time. As this is a late arrival back at school, the gates will be locked so when collecting your son/daughter after the trip, you are advised to wait in the nearby Ashenbury Park until you see the coach drive past and then follow this into the school car park. This will avoid congestion at the gate and allow for a quick and safe pick up procedure. We advise you to read our Educational Visits Policy available on the school website.
