2 Mnday, July 18th Pint f the Day: Salvatin is a surce r means f being saved frm harm. Teach the children that thrugh the great sacrifice f Jesus, we have salvatin thrugh him. Reassure the children that thrugh ur salvatin we have a great weapn that prtects us frm the evil ne. Large Grup Bible Lessn (15 minutes - all tgether in a big grup right after lunch) Spend this teaching the children the stry fr tday. Yu can d a skit, act the stry ut while smene reads r tells the stry, shw a vide, etc. Yu nly have t tell the stry nce, s g all ut here and be creative! Belw are ideas t get yu started: Rtatins: Make a skit in which the Helmet f salvatin is the main fcus. Have several warrirs (teens) start getting ready fr battle. On the stage there are a lt f weapns and gear fr the sldiers t chse frm, but there are nt enugh helmets. Once in battle the warrirs with a helmet survivr and thse withut d nt survive. Apply this t the Helmet f Salvatin. The damsel is stlen by the enemy nce again. The knight in shining armr is sitting in the castle withut his helmet n. When he discvers she is missing the enemy appraches him and begins t deceive him and t sht him with darts in the head. Because he desn't have his helmet n he is deceived int believing that he desn't need t save the damsel. The king can describe t the children that a sldier shuld never g t battle with his head unprtected. When Christians leave their minds unprtected it gives the enemy a chance t attack us with temptatin and sin. We need t guard ur minds and be careful what we allw in. ( Craft (20 minutes) Yu can d the same craft in bth craft rm 1 and craft rm 2 r have a different, mre age apprpriate craft in each rm. Belw are sme ideas: Helmet - Use this template ( t make a helmet f salvatin. Have the children decrate plain baseball caps as their helmet. Game (20 minutes): Yu can d the same game in bth game 1 and game 2 r have a different, mre age apprpriate game in each rm. Belw are sme ideas: Knck ut Temptatin - Set up plastic cups alng the wall. Frm abut ten r fifteen feet away, the children have t bunce a ping png ball ff f the flr nce and int the cup. They have t d this three times in a rw. Tell the kids that whever accmplishes this task will receive candy. (It is imprtant that this game is t hard t win. It needs t seem pssible, but make sure n ne can actually win.) After everyne fails a rund, tell them that yu can ffer them smething s that n matter what they d, whether they make the shts r nt, they will still win the prize. Pass ut paper helmets t the kids. Be sure that yu dn t frce the helmet n any kid. (Yu culd ask a vlunteer, such as anther adult r classrm helper, t deny taking a paper helmet, t help demnstrate the pint.) Give everyne the ptin t take it r leave it. Play the game again, nly this time, all thse with a paper helmet get a prize, even if they dn t cmplete the task successfully. Ask if the children understand the pint f the game. What spiritual theme were yu trying t get

3 acrss? Strngly emphasize that there is nthing we can d t win ur salvatin. It may seem pssible fr us t live right, but in the sight f Gd, we are still sinners. The nly way t win the game, t reach Heaven, is t accept Gd s free gift f salvatin. ( Hats ff game: This game is played like musical chairs. Yu will need a hat fr each child. Give each child a hat but ne. When the leader yells hats ff, all the kids thrw their hats up in the air and scramble t get a new ne. The child withut a hat is ut and a hat is remved frm play. Play cntinues until there is nly ne player remaining. Spiritual applicatin is that we need t always keep ur minds prtected. If the devil catches us with an unprtected mind he will be waiting t fill it with sinful things. Use the activity belw r cme up with ne f yur wn. Hand Signs: Assign a hand mtin fr each wrd f the verse. Teach the children the hand signs and the wrds at the same time. Then say the wrds while the children nly d the hand mtins. And then d the hand mtins while the children say the wrds. Snack: Tstits scp chips with dip. Turn the scps upside dwn and they lk like helmets.

4 Tuesday, July 19th Majr Pint: We have t teach the children that it des nt matter hw much yu have r wh yu that matters t Gd. We d have t fllw his cmmandments but nthing that we d can give us ur salvatin it is nly thrugh Jesus that we have salvatin. The Bible tells f a yung man wh had lts f mney and wned many things, but he wanted smething that all his mney culdn t buy. Large Grup Bible Lessn (15 minutes) Rich Yung Man: Have yur teens act ut this stry as but with a mdern day twist. The rich yung man culd be a famus basketball r ftball player talking t Jesus. Then have the narratr r yuth minister spend a few minutes explaining t the children that t Gd it desn t matter what we have r wh we are. Jesus wants us t knw that t him, all peple are the same. We must all be saved the same way by believing and beying Jesus Christ. Rtatins: Craft (20 minutes): Yu can d the same craft in bth craft rm 1 and craft rm 2 r have a different, mre age apprpriate craft in each rm. Belw are sme ideas: Have the children create r clr sme srt f treasure bx. Inside, have them list their Gdly treasures. Ex. Belw are sme ideas: Bean Bag Tss Game: Cut shapes ut f a bx and label them Wh, What, When, Where, and Why. Set bx with cut-ut shapes n tp, 3 t 5 feet frm thrw line. Give each child tw tries t get the bean bag thrugh a shape. The child draws a questin written n a crrespnding shape. If the child des nt knw the answer,

5 he r she may ask anther child fr help. Ask wh, what, where, when, and why questins that g alng with the stry f the Rich Yung Man. Try playing this game t help the kids see hw they cannt have 2 leaders in their life. Play a game like red light green light. Hwever, pick 2 peple instead f 1 t be the leader. Nw it is really hard t fllw bth leaders and d what bth want. The kids will becme frustrated. Talk abut hw the same thing is true in ur lives. We cannt have 2 leaders in ur life: Gd and mney. The rich man had mney as the ther leader in his life. Read the verse alud and have the class repeat it several times frm memry. Line up the kids. Befre handing each child the ball, he r she must say the memry verse crrectly. If the child des s, he r she can sht the basketball. If the child fails t repeat the verse crrectly, he r she ges t the end f the line. Yu can als play teams. In this case, the chance t repeat the verse alternates between the tw teams. T make the game slightly mre cmpetitive keep track f hw many baskets each team has scred. Snack: Fruit Snacks

6 Wednesday, July 20th Majr Pint: Jesus suffered and died n the crss. After 3 days, His tmb was empty and He appeared t His fllwers. Because f this great sacrifice, we have salvatin in Jesus Christ. Large Grup Bible Lessn (15 minutes): This is a great stry t act ut. Let s really g all ut, have the children cheer fr Jesus t be saved but then ut f n were the audience shuld start screaming Crucify Him!!! The kids will be cnfused at first but eventually they will jin the crwd and be like everyne else that day. After the crucifixin, get the audience very quiet and sad, have peple crying. Out f nwhere let smene cme screaming int the big rm sharing the gd news that Jesus is alive. Rtatins: Craft (20 minutes): Yu can d the same craft in bth craft rm 1 and craft rm 2 r have a different, mre age apprpriate craft in each rm. Belw are sme ideas: Make a picture shwing Jesus empty tmb! Draw tw half circles (ne small and ne large) fr the tmb. Draw a circle fr the stne that was rlled away. Let yur little ne cut ut the pieces. Glue t tmb nt cnstructin paper and attach the stne with a brad. Paper plate Calvary Hill: This craft is easy and fun t make. Just cut ut a half-circle in the center f yur plate and fld it up. Have the child clr the plate t shw the path t the crss. Then, cut ut strips f brwn paper and frm three crsses. Glue them nt the hill. Game (20 minutes): Yu can d the same game in bth game 1 and game 2 r have a different, mre age apprpriate game in each rm. Belw are sme ideas:

7 Draw a lng line using yarn r masking tape (r use an imaginary line). Have the children line up in a straight line facing the leader n the right side f the line. The right side f the line is "In the Tmb" and the left side f the line is "Out f the Tmb." The leader yells either "In the tmb," r "Out f the tmb. Upn hearing the cmmand, the children jump frm ne side t the ther. If the children jump in the wrng directin r dn't jump t the ther side when it's a valid cmmand they are ut f the game. The last player still in wins the game. The leader will try and get the players t jump incrrectly by pinting t ne side as they yell t jump t the ppsite side r by repeating the same side and/r changing the pace. Impssible? Knt! Game: Have the children frm pairs, and give each pair a 3-4 ft. length f rpe r string. Challenge kids t hld ne end f the rpe in each hand and tie a knt withut letting g f the ends. Let ne partner attempt t tie the knt as the ther partner cheers him r her n. Then let the partners switch rles. If anyne figures ut the slutin, have that pair sit dwn until the end f the game. (slutin: the knw can be tied by crssing yur arms ver yur chest, s that ne hand is in frnt f yur arms and the ther is behind r belw them, almst like crssing yur arms twice. Then lean ver and pick up the ends f the rpe with yur arms still crssed. When yu unfld yur arms, a knt if autmatically tied in the rpe.) This game will seem impssible t the kids at first, just as Jesus resurrectin must have seemed impssible. But kids will realize that the game is pssible, just as Jesus rising frm the dead was pssible because Jesus is Gd! Use the activity belw r cme up with ne f yur wn. BACK AND FORTH Divide the kids up int tw grups. Have the tw grups n ppsite sides f the rm. Taking turns have each grup recite the verse. As sn as the first grup finishes the secnd grup shuld begin reciting the verse. G back and frth reciting the verse several times. Like ur chant. Snack: Resurrectin Rlls: r stick pretzels that the kids can make lk like crsses.

Large Grup Bible Lessn (15 minutes): Have yur teens d a skit in which yur yuth grup is giving a news reprt f the varius things that have happened in VBS this week. Have a shrt reprt f the helmet f salvatin actually saving smene, then update n the rich yung man s whereabuts, and finally have interview sme f the peple wh saw Jesus alive. End the Shw with the anchrs reminding the children hw nly thrugh Jesus we can receive salvatin. Small grup battles are next! N Rtatins
