3 CASE STUDY: OPTIMIZATION OF BUSINESS ASSETS Founded in 1976, this client is the fifth largest independent information technology and business process services company in the world. Approximately 69,000 professionals serve its global clients from offices and delivery centers across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. They provide a comprehensive portfolio of services including high-end business and IT consulting, systems integration, application development and maintenance, infrastructure management, as well as a wide range of proprietary solutions. we can now produce optimization reports to ensure the most efficient use of the racks. This allows us to identify whether any equipment should be reconfigured and, if necessary, decommissioned. It s all about achieving maximum space utilisation and energy efficiency and by using TRACKIT we made $190,000 of savings in the first year and I estimate that we will get a total return investment in less than 12 months Data Center Manager - Fifth Largest I.T. Company in the World THEIR BUSINESS CHALLENGE The company operates nine data centers that offer vital 24/7 availability of IT systems and services. Included in these were over 1,000 42U racks, housing over 15,000 separate devices including switches, servers and cabling. These stateof-the-art facilities were at the heart of their customers operations and they wanted to ensure that they continued to invest in them sufficiently to ensure that they offer unrivalled levels of uptime. Optimising racks was previously a difficult and problematic process, as a manual audit process was needed to see what was available in each data center. This was almost impossible due to the time taken and every time moves, adds and changes (MACs) were made the manual record became inaccurate. In addition, they wanted to ensure that their data centers were as energy efficient as possible in order to help meet their own sustainability based objectives and those of their customers. 4 CASE STUDY: OUR SOLUTION Our wireless portable printers are robust, reliable, easy to use and offer high quality print. They have perfectly complemented the TRACKIT system and to be perfectly honest I don t know how we managed to operate before the solution was implemented. The fact that this project also reached the finals of the Datacenter Dynamics EMEA Awards in the Innovation in IT Optimization category further highlights the excellent contribution of all concerned Data Center Manager - Fifth Largest I.T. Company in the World After carrying out a full review of the clients data center infrastructure, TRACKIT configured a solution to meet its specific asset management needs. After completing a successful smallscale trial, the TRACKIT solution was rolled out across the entire estate over a three-month period. The barcoding was completed and by using a handheld wireless LightTouchID scanner linked to the TRACKIT system operatives are able to carry out an audit by simply scanning down every rack to see what equipment is being used including the model and manufacturer. It also identified what s new and, just as importantly, what has been removed or altered. Lists of the audited barcodes were then cross referenced with what has been purchased to provide proof to the client that everything they have paid for is in place. Information about power consumption can also then be accessed, so that each rack s power and cooling data can be managed more effectively. THE RESULTS The benefits of the new system from TRACKIT exceeded all of the clients expectations. Not only did it cost less than a quarter of the price of a DCIM system, they are now able to react quickly to incidents and avoid the penalties agreed in its service level agreement - as well as saving $190,000 in the first year.
