2 Brief overview of the WP WP 6 WP6 aims to develop an embryonic biomethane market by connecting regionals areas in three neighboring countries (Austria, France and Italy) in which assessing the concept elaborated at national level (e.g., registries, sustainability, GHG emissions, standards).

3 Objectives a biomethane register for Italy or (at least) a regional one for Northern Italy; bilateral or trilateral agreements among the biomethane registries from IT, FR and AT, including mutual acceptance of Biomethane Guarantees of Origin issued in the country of production; a regional arrangement with the competent natural gas pipeline companies on the procedure of confirming the physical movements (injection, take-out); at least one willing customer who is interested to buy imported biomethane and at least one willing biomethane producer in any of the three countries who is interested to produce biomethane for export; the readiness of the governments in the countries to treat imported biomethane equally with domestically produced: for example the French FIT system would be applicable to biomethane produced in Italy or the Italian support system would be open for biomethane produced in France or Austria.

7 Activities and Tasks What to be done and by whom until next meeting (June 2015) Task 6.1 Identification and analysis of the focus areas (Lead: CIB; participants: AKB, GRCETA). This task aims to identify the areas (regions) in Italy, Austria and France that will be the subject of the analysis. This choice will be based on the presence of some specific features that are important for the biogas/biomethane production chain.

10 The number of biogas/biomethane plants At first we will search data from literature to select the most interesting regions Then we will study in depth the selected regions contacting national authorities like terna and gse

11 The extension and the ramification of the natural gas grid At first we will search data from literature to select the most interesting regions Then we will study in depth the selected regions contacting the most important natural gas grid companies

12 The number of methane /filling stations At first we will search data from literature to select the most interesting regions Then we will study in depth the selected regions contacting the most important category s association

13 The number of the CNG/CBG vehicles At first we will search data from literature to select the most interesting regions Then we will study in depth the selected regions contacting the most important category s association

16 Discussion about criteria of selection We will have to select 2 or 3 regions for each nation We will select regions that will have the higher value of the features that we have seen in the previous slides

17 CREATION OF THE MAP Data obtained from the previous phase will be used to make a unique map MAP FORMAT: GIS? GOOGLE MAP?

21 This analysis will be very important to check the homogeneity of the natural gas grid in the regions and to understand the distance between the actual biogas/biomethane plants and the pipeline. Basing on the data obtained, the convenience to support the grid injection of biomethane or the transport by tank trucks will be considered. It will be also important to understand the location and the number of the actual gas filling stations and where and how the upgrading plants with filling station will improve the homogeneity and reduce the problems of gas cars users.
