These fuels are formed under the ground when dead matter is squashed under extremely high pressure over millions of years. Some power stations use fuels such as uranium and plutonium to generate electricity. Alternative sources of energy do exist. Energy obtained from the natural heat in volcanic rock under the ground to generate electricity is called energy. When dead plants and animals rot, bacteria produce methane gas which is collected and burned as a fuel. This type of energy is called. Another type of energy is that generated from falling water. This energy is called energy. energy is the energy generated by the motion of tides. Today, a number of people install a solar water heater on the roofs of their houses. (iv) Give one reason why the copper pipes are painted black. (v) Sometimes in a solar water heater, water is made to pass through pipes that are arranged in a zig-zag pattern. Name one advantage of such a setup. (vi) Hot water inside the pipes rises up. Explain why. (d) On an average summer day, a solar panel has a maximum power input of 1400W per 1m 2 of the solar panel. The total surface area of the solar panel is 3m 2. (i) Calculate its total power input. (ii) How much energy is absorbed per second by the whole solar panel?
