3 Welcome to South West London and St. George s Mental Health NHS Trust The Psychology Graduate Internship Scheme South West London and St. George s Mental Health NHS Trust gives psychology graduates an opportunity to volunteer in real work settings to gain valuable experience that can support their pursuit of further training and employment. We know that many psychology graduates are looking for experience in work settings and this scheme provides a formal framework for enabling this. Paid employment opportunities will be advertised through the usual routes, most often via the Trust website and NHS Jobs. This volunteer internship scheme does not include paid employment opportunities. Instead it offers a time-limited opportunity to have supervised experience of a work setting in which applied psychology in practice can be observed and an opportunity to participate in some elements of this. Our aim is to give you the chance to see what the work of an applied psychologist entails and to experience for yourself some of the tasks that this role involves. What is an Internship? The Purpose of the Psychology Graduate Internship Scheme is to provide an opportunity to gain meaningful experience through shadowing professionals and undertaking appropriate supervised tasks. These are unpaid internships where an individual volunteers to undertake specified tasks for a fixed period of time in order to gain experience that is relevant to a career they wish to pursue. This experience can include gaining familiarity with the work and roles of a profession the intern is seeking to join. The intern is not considered an employee and is not expected to carry out a job or undertake a workload similar to that of a paid employee. The Gateway to the Professions Collaborative Forum Best Practice Code for High Quality Internships is reflected in our internship scheme for psychology graduates. The information included in this brochure outlines the experiences you would gain from each internship available, and the person specifications you need to meet to be eligible to apply. We tell you what you can expect to gain from the internship and upon successful completion each intern is provided with a reference from the supervisor confirming that they have completed the objectives set out. It is intended that this will help support your goal of pursuing further work and training in a field of applied psychology. 3. Psychology Graduate Internship Scheme

As part of this support we are able to offer Psychology graduates an opportunity to gain relevant experience through the Psychology Graduate Internship Scheme (PGIS). The PGIS offers volunteers a minimum of 2 days a week for a period of 3-12 months to learn new skills and gain experience which we hope will help support your career progression.
