1 Welcome to Camp Cookieland! Welcome to Day Camp! We re thrilled that you ve chosen to spend part of your summer with us. Please read through this packet, as it contains lots of useful information to help you prepare for camp. One day during the camp session we will have a birthday party with cake, music, and a surprise Girl Scout Celebrity to play games with us. Voic s are checked and returned daily while camp is in session. Camp Payments Our online registration is the best and quickest way to register your daughter for summer camp. When registering online you may either: Pay in full for a guaranteed space for your camper Pay your $25 deposit to hold your camper's spot and make payments as you can (final payment must be received 2 weeks before your camp session in order for your camper s session to not be cancelled). If Financial Partnership is needed for your camper to attend camp we are happy to help. Please complete the Financial Partnership Form to start the process. Financial Partnership Forms should be completed at least 4 weeks in advance of the campers camp session. Using Reward Cards For Camp Sessions If your camper has Rewards that they have earned from the cookie season on her GSWESTOK Rewards Card and would like to use it to help pay for her camp session, she is able to use them at checkout! On the checkout page when paying for your camp, select the gift card option and type in your GSWESTOK Rewards Card number. Forms As a reminder, each camper is required to turn in the following forms: You may upload forms at gswestok.org/campformupload or bring them in person on check in day. Forms can be found and downloaded at gswestok.org/camp. Camp will have extra forms, but the health form must be signed by a physician or your camper may not be able to participate. Any forms not uploaded two weeks prior to your camper s session will need to be brought and delivered, in person, when you check in your campers. 3 Expectations and Activites What To Expect All campers will be sharing the camp experience of: Limited air conditioning (there are fans in most buildings and we will adjust schedules for indoor activities if heat is extreme) Walking from activity to activity (short to medium distances) Summer Camp introduces and fosters healthy and active living. Camp Activities Here are a few examples of camp activities that we might do at Camp Cookieland: Art Dance Songs Arts & Crafts Flag S.T.E.M Campfire Games Team Building Community Service Gardening Theater Cookouts Outdoor Skills Water Fun Brownies and older will have the additional opportunity to participate in archery. Health & Wellness Food Campers need to bring a lunch every day to day camp. Please keep in mind the heat, and pack cold items in an insulated bag. Many groups also choose to do a cookout lunch once a session, or cook occasional treats as a group activity. Health Care Camp Cookieland s top priority is the health and well-being of all campers and staff. All camp staff are trained in basic First Aid and CPR. Camp Cookieland also employs full-time health care staff to manage camper medication and provide routine and emergency first aid as needed. You can help us provide quality care for your child by giving us all the information we need on the health history form. Complete all sections of the form, and give as much detail as you can. Staff is also available during check-in to discuss your child s specific needs if necessary. We strive to keep parents involved and informed in decision-making with regards to health care, so camp staff will notify you as soon as possible if your child becomes ill or injured while at camp. 4 Medication All medications brought to camp must be checked in with health care staff, and administered only through the health center. Medications include prescription and over-the-counter meds, vitamins, inhalers, eye-drops, medicated creams or lotions, or anything else used to improve the camper s health. Camp also has a supply of common over-the-counter medications that may be administered as authorized by parents on the health history form. Do not pack medication, but have it available when you arrive at check-in. All medication must have: Original pharmacy or manufacturer container (pill sorters or other containers are not accepted) The child s own name (meds belonging to a sibling or anyone else are not accepted) Current date (expired meds are not accepted) Physician s instructions (prescription meds can only be administered according to doctor s written instructions, such as the instructions printed on the original pharmacy container) Camp Policies & Procedures Lost & Found Lost and found items are sorted and stored at camp, then transported to the council office until mid-fall. If you are missing any items, call the council office at or You can pick up lost items at the office or at camp. After mid-fall, remaining items will be donated to a local charity. Camp is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Camp Policies Animals/Pets: Campers may not bring animals or pets to camp. Alcohol, Drugs & Cigarettes: Camp is a drug and alcohol-free environment. Campers may not use or possess drugs, alcohol or cigarettes while attending camp. Violation will result in being sent home immediately. Possession, misuse or self-administration of medication will also result in being sent home. Cell Phones: Campers may not bring cell phones to camp. Any cell phones found will be confiscated and returned at the end of the session. Clothing: Campers and staff may not wear indecent or revealing clothing, low-cut, halter, or backless shirts, low-riding pants, or clothes with messages promoting drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, hate or discrimination. Electronics: Electronics, including digital music players, CD players and video games are not allowed at camp. These items will be confiscated and returned at the end of the session. Firearms & Weapons: Firearms, weapons, or anything else used as a weapon are prohibited on site. Possession of a weapon will result in being sent home immediately, and possibly calling the police. Vehicles: Parents dropping off their children should keep to the 10 mph speed limit on the road and park in designated areas. Transportation & Check In Driving Directions to Cookieland Cookieland is located in Newalla on SE 29 th Street between Peebly and Luther Roads. From Midwest City: Drive east on S.E. 29 th Street. From I-40: Exit North on Peebly Road. Continue North on Peebly Road for 3.2 miles to S.E. 29 th Street. Turn east (right) onto S.E. 29 th Street and proceed approximately ½ mile. Cookieland is located on the north side of the road. Check in at the ranger s residence. 4 Page

5 Transportation for Camp Car - Parents or guardians may drive their child to and from camp. Driving to Camp Arrive at camp between 8:45 9:00 a.m. Driving home from Camp Pick up your child from camp at 4:30 p.m. Bus Parents or guardians may pay for bus transportation to and from camp for only $40 a week. o Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma Mary Nichols Family Leadership Center, 6100 N. Robinson Ave Oklahoma City, OK To Camp: Arrive before 8:00 a.m. From Camp: Pick up at 5:30 p.m. Bus Safety Rules Follow directions of driver and bus chaperones Stay in your seat at all times No yelling or screaming or throwing of objects on the bus Pick up trash and all personal items upon leaving the bus Packing List Please mark everything with the camper s first and last name to avoid losing items. Girls must be able to carry their day pack (bag) to and from the bus and to the different activities. Girls Scouts of Western Oklahoma is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Don t take new clothes to camp and expect them to look new after camp. Everything gets dirty at camp. Dress comfortably for the weather and terrain; shirts with sleeves, shorts or jeans. Please do not wear halters, tube tops, or tank tops - unprotected areas can easily sunburn and get scratched by tree limbs. Only wear closed toe and heel shoes, NO flip flops during camp. Athletic shoes and hiking boots are acceptable. No sandals! If purchasing new shoes for camp, please purchase at least one week before camp so the camper can break-in the shoes. Pack in a Backpack Everyday: Sack lunch (candy and gum are a treat for home - do not bring to camp please) Full Water Bottle/Canteen Sunscreen & Bug Spray Pair of socks Hat or Bandana Sunglasses Change of clothes (in case of accidents) Waterproof Poncho Jacket Don t bring: Electronic equipment to camp, this includes ipods, radios, & CELL PHONES! Camper Care Package Camper Care Packages are always fun for girls to have once they get to camp. You are able to purchase one of these fun care packages while registering for your camp session! If you'd like to add it to your order later, just click on the "Register Now" button at gswestok.org/camp and re-log in to your account and make the change to your camp session order.
