7 The : Towards MesInfos the Project MesInfos Experiment Gather a core group of companies and organizations in order to explore the value that individuals could derive from being empowered with their own data. Try to align the interests of individuals / organizations / society (data protection) Creatively explore possible new services Experiment w/real users and real data from several universes Work on small and large issues almost at the same time

12 What we learned from the individuals (1/2) A deep awareness that their personal data is collected and used out of their own control «Les entreprises récupèrent plein de données, aujourd hui il n y a peut-être pas trop de trucs malfaisants mais je ne sais pas trop dans un avenir proche, s il n y aura pas des possibilités de profiler les gens sur certains critères.» Testers declare to be interested in a device that would enable them to regain control and to use their data no impact on the ground People don t really use tools to protect themselves or to use the data. Un testeur, à propos de Privowny : "le fait de stocker pour faciliter ensuite les achats, moi ça ne me va pas, je veux bien fluidifier mon surf internet en donnant mon nom, prénom, numéro de téléphone en revanche, je ne veux pas qu il y ait un stockage de ma carte bleue. C est que je ne trouve pas que ce soit particulièrement contraignant de remettre un numéro de carte bleue à chaque fois» An abstract concept + no idea of what to do with their data.

13 What we learned from the individuals (2/2) The path towards data go through uses and services Make life a bit easier: automatisation, organization, alerts, advices Coaching and "self coaching" (ex. health) Linking with other individuals or organisations Discount vouchers The «individual» is not the only one concerned Family, roomates (which make things more complicated) Most of the uses will be social : comparison, sharing Individuals «Self Efficacy» and data sharing with the organizations A significant impact of the sharing of personal data over trust

14 What we learned from the data holders : nothing ready to share data with clients A transverse project for the organization : IS, business, marketing, legal... Data has to be described and explained to be useful No example of living secured system to transfer data to the clients The Big question : finding the clients within the IS IS are not conceived to share data «Family», «husband and wife» is often an information missing A few needs on the developers and services providers side Data frequency, latency, history Standardisation and interoperability Enable them to connect with other types of data (open data, etc.)

15 What we learned from the innovators A new innovation continent is opening Many concepts from the experiment but more to be explored (relationship organization/client, ) The value of data crossings The value of «social» services : comparison, sharing, contribution Mental and technical barriers Hard to to process personal data for the person concerned Hard to cross datasets Consequence : simple prototypes, crossing few data A long-term market The challenge of the interaction between the organizations IS (ex : VRM) and users Entrepreneurs need short-term cycles Disruptive business models still have to be invented
