1 Dunmow St Mary s Primary School 1 High Stile, Great Dunmow, Essex CM6 1EB Telephone Facsimile E- mail admin@dsmprimary.essex.sch.uk Dear Parents, February 11 th 2016 Book Week Please see the letter which is attached alongside this newsletter detailing events in book week. Highlights include: dressing up as a book character, a book fair and an author visit. We would like to thank Mrs Wood for all the work she has put into organising these events. Swimming Sessions We are really pleased to confirm that our swimming sessions will start again after Easter for all year groups. As many of you are aware the school is in a fortunate position of being able to offer an enhanced programme of swimming provision due to having our own pool on site. The swimming sessions for each year group run for 6 weeks with children receiving two lessons per week. We are delighted that Nicole Clarkson our experienced and qualified swimming instructor is joining us once again as she already knows many of the children well and is able to assist them in making real progress through these lessons. The timetable for after Easter will be as follows: Monday afternoon Year 3 Tuesday morning Year 2 Tuesday afternoon Year 1 Wednesday morning Year 3 Wednesday afternoon Year 4 Thursday morning Year 1 Thursday afternoon Year 2 Friday morning Year 4 Years R, 5 & 6 will swim after the May half- term. Children will of course need a swimming costume (for girls this needs to be a one piece and for boys fitted swimming trunks), a towel and a hat must be worn for hygiene reasons. Hats can be purchased from the school office for Please note that earrings have to be taken out for swimming lessons so any recently pierced ears will preclude your child from lessons. As you are aware swimming is heavily subsidised by the school and the parental contribution is key to our ability to provide this opportunity which is so popular with our children. We have really appreciated the strong support shown by parents in recent years and would ask that you continue to demonstrate this by paying the contribution for your child/ren this year as soon as possible. Please complete the slip below. School Photos On Tuesday 1 st March the photographer from Tempest will be in school. The children will have individual photos taken and also photos with their siblings. Please make sure that children have their correct uniform on this day.

Please remember that even whilst playing games such as Minecraft and Clash of Clans children can be communicating with strangers. The advice from professionals is that it is better not to stop your child playing (unless it is not age appropriate) but to play alongside them, watch them sometimes or have a conversation with them about being safe whilst playing the game. These games are being used for grooming children. Strangers offer to buy items to improve their game skills as a way in. For more information about online safety please look on the school website: safety/ Half term Holiday Tomorrow is a non- pupil day and we look forward to welcoming children back to school after the half term holiday on Monday 22 nd February. Clubs will run in the first week after half term. Yours sincerely Clare Griffiths
