1 Win Win Week is Oklahoma s Opportunity for High School Students to Declare Victory Over Cancer! Student athletes, cheerleaders, Student Council members, marching band members, club officers, pom squad members and other student leaders all can help prevent cancer and raise money for cancer patients across Oklahoma by focusing on cancer at their athletic events. Your school will compete for a State Championship trophy awarded by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association for the most successful program based on school size. Win Win Week is a collaboration between the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center and the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association. Congratulations to the 2010 State Champs! The OSSAA reviewed the final reports from the 98 schools that participated last year and selected the following schools as State Champions! 4 Our students really got behind the theme of the week and participated in Win Win Week activities. They really took pride in the contests and the fundraising activities. This has been a life changing experience for our school and community. Paoli Principal School Contributions Contributions for Win Win Week will stay in Oklahoma for use by the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center to provide important support services to patients. These services help address the medical, emotional, financial and educational needs of patients. Checks should be payable to the OU Foundation with a notation that the funds are for Win Win Week. The OU Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization and will issue a receipt for tax purposes. If individual donors wish to have a tax receipt, please provide a list of donors, including complete mailing addresses and amount of contributions. Mail contributions (no cash, please) to: Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center PO Box NE 10th Street, 6th Floor Oklahoma City, OK If you require an invoice prior to your school issuing a check, please e mail your request with the amount of your contribution to Lori Long at the Cancer Center at lori long@ouhsc.edu. For questions, please contact Von Allen at (405) or von allen@ouhsc.edu. Name a Room Schools that participate in Win Win Week are eligible to name a room in the new Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center building based on the amount of money they raise. Schools that raise $10,000 or more (or more than $5,000 one year with a commitment to participate next year to reach the goal) can name a room. Last year, nine schools named rooms, including Duncan, Heritage Hall, Kingfisher, McAlester, Norman, Pawhuska, Southmoore, Tuttle and Wilson. If your school conducts fundraising at other times of the school year and you want to include the Cancer Center in those plans, we ll add those funds to your Win Win Week total to qualify your school for a named room. For more information, contact Von Allen, (405) or von allen@ouhsc.edu.
5 2010 GREAT IDEA: Holdenville High School incorporated Win Win Week into their Homecoming activities. Each class selected a specific type of cancer and used the corresponding color in its awareness programs, including T shirts. What s in a color? Many people associate the color pink with cancer in general, and we ve all seen pinked out athletic events. But did you know that lavender is actually the color of all cancers and pink Pink Breast Cancer Teal Ovarian Cancer Lung Cancer Purple Pancreatic Cancer and Leiomyosarcoma Orange Leukemia Emerald Green Liver Cancer Periwinkle Blue Esophageal and Stomach Cancer Black Melanoma Dark Blue Colon Cancer Burgundy Multiple Myeloma is the color of breast cancer? Your school may choose a specific color, or colors, for your efforts for cancer awareness. To help, here are the different colors that represent specific types of cancer.
