2 The Master of Arts degree in Public Policy (MAPP) offers students the skills to construct, analyze, and interpret research results from a policy analysis perspective. These skills are in high demand for a number of policy-related careers and will prepare students to offer empirical evidence for their claims. Students enrolled in the program are learning to answer the following questions: What is policy analysis? What analytical tools are available to assess existing and prospective policies? How can data analysis provide evidence of a societal problem? How can data analysis be translated into a plan that anyone can understand? What management tools are available to make a difference in program implementation? Students answer these questions through engaging in their courses, mentoring with program faculty, and completing hands-on projects with their peers and faculty. The program prepares graduates for careers in policy analysis, homeland security, foreign policy, urban affairs, public service, nonprofit organizations, and more. For part-time and full-time learners, the MA in Public Policy is a 30-credit program designed for those who are interested in entering or advancing a career in public service. The program offers a strong theoretical understanding of the field as well as opportunities for applied learning through internships and other activities. Graduate student housing is available; learn more at The Public Policy graduate program provides students training in quantitative policy-oriented research methods that will set them apart when pursuing any career related to policy design, analysis, or evaluation. Students are exposed to relevant and practical course requirements such as preparing policy briefs or reflective essays, writing policy proposals or case studies, and interacting with guest speakers who have expertise in the field. These experiences increase student awareness of critical policy issues and the strategies to address them. Students pursuing the Master of Arts in Public Policy can apply up to nine credits of certain courses in public policy toward the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and be eligible for a second master s degree in social work after completing the balance of the MSW requirements. advancement

4 The MAPP program provides flexibility to students by offering all of its courses in a hybrid format consisting of alternating weeks of in-class and online sessions. The online sessions allow for students to participate when it is most convenient for them to do so within the established structure of the curriculum. The degree program is enhanced with research and polling opportunities through work with the Monmouth University Polling Institute and the communication program. 30 Number of credits to obtain MA degree The director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute was recently rated by 538.com as among the best pollsters nationwide. 3 Number of former New Jersey governors who have served as Monmouth University s Public Servant in Residence. The Master of Public Policy program at Monmouth University provided me with the skills necessary to secure a position in a legislative office. I learned about policy analysis, how to conduct research, details of public administration, and proper research presentation. I find myself calling on details of the issue-attention cycle, policy implementation, and policy evaluation gained from our policy analysis course, as well as facets of public administration and budgeting theories. I continue to employ knowledge I have gained from the program in my daily work and credit it with molding me into an asset in my professional field. ---Shawna M.
