2 MSEd the right program, at the right time The Master of Science in Education: Assures that teachers, counselors, literacy coaches, and administrators are able to collaborate in educational settings that are constantly changing. Also allows program students to work closely with faculty members to become reflective practitioners who then promote their own students achievement. Choose from one of four degree programs: Educational Leadership The Principal program (30 credits) is designed for teachers and other educational professionals seeking to become school principals. The Principal/School Administrator program (33 credits) is designed for teachers or other educational professionals seeking to become school principals and central office administrators. T he Master of Science in Education (MSEd) at Monmouth University offers more than twenty different program options covering essential areas including educational leadership, special education, school and college counseling, reading specialist, and more. Additionally, for students seeking only an endorsement or certificate (and not a degree), there are many options available and the program supports a wide variety of options for those seeking to gain advanced teaching and leadership skills. Graduates of the MSEd program find they are positioned for salary increases, have increased prestige and value within their school systems, and, overall, have greater marketability. With small class sizes and unique learning formats including traditional classroom, hybrid, and online, Monmouth offers a high level of student-faculty interaction in academically excellent learning environments. For more information, visit Special Education The Special Education programs (30 credits), with an online core of twelve credits which are grounded in national standards and research, are designed for teachers who want to broaden their knowledge base in the field of special education. Students study evidence-based principles and theories as well as laws and policies to enable them to understand how P 12 students unique needs and abilities affect their school performance. Qualified students may choose from four tracks: Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD) prepares teachers who wish to enhance their skills in working effectively with diverse populations, families, colleagues, and the community. Leads to NJ TSD Certification. Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDT-C) prepares teachers to specialize in assessing and instructing students with special needs and to serve as learning consultants on child study teams. Leads to NJ LDT-C Certification. Teaching in Inclusive Settings prepares teachers desiring the skills necessary for inclusive education to be successful and emphasizes instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, accommodations for co-teaching, and professional collaboration. Autism (fully online) prepares teachers to focus on the design of educational services for children with autism, and to teach students who are on the autism spectrum. The program includes instruction in laws and policies as well as methods for identifying students with autism, developing individual education plans, and teaching and supervising autistic students. New! Speech-Language Pathology* (60 credits) is aligned with the academic and clinical requirements for the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competencies in speech-language pathology and for the New Jersey State endorsement as a speech-language specialist. The program is designed to meet the requirements for certification and provides a strong commitment to theoretical and research foundations of clinical intervention. Students gain knowledge in the field of communication disorders across the lifespan and are offered varied field placements in schools, hospitals, and clinics. *Pending ASHA approval.

3 Counseling The School Counseling program (48 credits) is a CACREP-accredited program, which prepares teachers and others who are seeking an endorsement in school counseling. The Student Affairs and College Counseling program (48 credits) is aligned with CACREP standards and prepares students to work in professional positions in higher education. Reading The Reading Specialist program (30 credits), based on national standards of the International Reading Association, is designed for exemplary teachers who have an initial teaching license and want to expand their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in teaching literacy to all learners and assisting paraprofessionals and colleagues. 4 what are the requirements? requirements Satisfactory overall GPA per state requirements (see Web site for details) and a minimum 3.0 GPA in the undergraduate major. Two letters of recommendation related to the applicant s competence for the graduate program and professional work. Essay (500 words or more) explaining why the applicant wishes to pursue this graduate program. See complete graduate application instructions for individual program requirements. Application Deadlines Fall Semester: July 15 Spring Semester: November 15 Summer Sessions: May 1 invest in your future invest Graduate scholarship awards are available to matriculated students in all master s degree programs and are renewable for each semester of enrollment at Monmouth University. Award values are based on the total number of credits taken each semester and range from $800 to $4,200 per semester. Outstanding graduate students may be eligible for graduate assistantships. Partial-tuition scholarships are available to students who have completed a master s degree program at Monmouth University and who return to the University to matriculate for a second master s degree or certificate.
