3 LIMITED RESIDENCY, UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES It will take innovative, multidisciplinary training to prepare leaders to address environmental issues such as environmental justice, sustainability, and resilience. Goucher s Master of Arts in Environmental Studies program prepares graduates to work with communities, engaging the public as well as scientists and engineers to help them create and assess competing solutions. Scientific literacy is necessary, but that alone is insufficient for addressing environmental and resource challenges. The social sciences and the humanities, including theories of political and cultural change, are critical to help inform and address long-term outlooks, conditions, and trends. At Goucher we pair this education along with training in management, administration, policy, and governance to prepare students for leadership roles. Our unique limited-residency format means that when you enroll, you ll be able to continue working full-time in your field. Each year you have the opportunity to participate in two nine-day residencies at Goucher where you will work intensively with faculty and peers and learn from site visits and guest speakers. 6 LEARN FROM LEADERS, THEN BECOME ONE Students in the Goucher Master of Arts in Environmental Studies program are working on challenging issues and looking for innovative approaches to solve global problems. The environmental studies program faculty are affiliated with leading environmental nonprofits, research universities, government agencies, and public-policy think tanks addressing some of the most complex and urgent issues of our time. The green sector is a growth economy, generating jobs at all levels that benefit the environment and conserve natural resources. Whether developing renewable energy sources, designing green goods and services, addressing sustainability practices in agriculture and natural resources, working to reduce pollution and greenhouse gasses, or creating opportunities for environmental justice and education, there is an increasing demand for the skills of graduates from Goucher s environmental studies program. Students are applying knowledge learned in classes immediately to real-world contexts. Our students have: Helped a Guatemalan community heal from the environmental and cultural wounds of civil war. Developed a curriculum that incorporates environmental studies and leadership for inner-city youth. Created a guide for people interested in launching eco-tourism businesses through international fieldwork. Built a program to boost community engagement in urban agriculture.

7 INTERDISCIPLINARY FACULTY, A GLOBAL CLASSROOM Goucher s distance-education format is richly interactive and extremely effective. 9 ENHANCE YOUR DEGREE, INCREASE YOUR REACH Dual Degrees Students who would like a broader knowledge base can apply to the dual-degree programs with the initial application or at any time before graduation. Dual-degree students typically take an extra year of coursework and finish with two master s degrees. By coordinating classes across programs, students can maximize their education and credentials while minimizing the cost and time in school.
