2 The Basics Language! Live provides many ways to monitor a student s progress: Under REPORTS: *Dashboard *Course Reports *Benchmark Reports *Score Details *Parent Report *District Overview

3 Dashboard *The Dashboard displays a variety of metrics to allow you to quickly view student activity and progress. *The sections include Reviews, Course Alerts, Time on Task, and Items Completed. Clicking on any of these buttons will give you specific information. *The Dashboard also shows the student roster, their status in Word Training and Text Training, and their activity in the last 24 hours and last seven days online in Word Training.

4 Reviews *Reviews are one of the most important ways to monitor students progress and adjust their instruction in Word Training. It is imperative that you do these in a timely manner and that you do them thoroughly! *Reviews will tell you how well the student has mastered a particular skill or concept and how well the student is self-assessing; they also allow you to reset a goal or lesson.

5 Reviews *Reviews provide the opportunities for peer feedback and teacher feedback. *They also provide the perfect opportunity for one to one instruction and conferencing: Sometimes I will pull a student aside and go through a lesson with them by going to the Course tab before resetting a lesson. You can also Preview every lesson, Goal, Practice, Content Master, and Power Passes with the entire class under the Course tab.

6 Course Alerts *Course Alerts provides the teacher with information such as abuse of the Class Wall posts, Auto-pass, and Time Max: *A student can flag a comment on the Class Wall that he/she thinks is inappropriate. Course Alerts will inform the teacher who can then view the comment and decide whether or not it is inappropriate, and, if so, decide whether or not to disable posting for the child who posted it. I would certainly conference with the student and explain what you are doing and why. I have found that many do not understand Class Wall appropriateness even though you discussed it at the beginning of the school year through the etiguette agreement.

7 Auto-Pass *Course Alerts will also tell you when a student has been automatically passed. *Auto-pass happens when a student has unsuccessfully tried three times to pass a Unit Goal. I have found this happens most often with Dsylexic students. Sometimes I have chosen to pull the student aside for some oneon-one reteaching and/or review of the words in the Unit Goal and then reassign the Goal. Other times, I have decided that would cause more frustration and discouragement for the child and have not reset the Goal. It s a professional decision based on your knowledge of the child.

8 Auto-Pass *At times, I have written down the words in the Unit Goal of which the student was automatically passed, reviewed them with the student, and reset the Goal.

9 Time Max *Course Alerts will also let you know when a student has spent over 60 minutes to complete a lesson. (Lessons should take 35 minutes, give or take a few minutes.) * When this happens, I usually reset the the lesson, conference with the child as to why I am resetting it, and explain their expectation of time. This has been a great motivator for my students as their end-of-week reward is based on their time on task for the week; resetting the lesson removes the time they ve spent on it, and retimes as they begin the reset lesson.

10 Time Max *However, there have been special situations where I did not reset the lesson: - school-wide schedules that have interrupted instructional time excessively - a student who is simply slow at processing information and the lesson was a difficult one *Also, if a student habitually takes too long to complete lessons, I move him/her where I can easily see and monitor their time on task.

11 Dashboard *The Dashboard will also tell you the students progress in a lesson based on Time on Task and Items Completed in the last 24 hours and the last 7 days. *Teachers can set student targets by going to the tab Tools, then Class Settings, then Targets. The recommended amount of time on task by L!L is 112 minutes per week in Word Training. However, you ll need to set your students Targets based on the reasonableness of their availability to Word Training in your class. Mine was set at 100 minutes at the beginning of the year, but I had to reduce it to 80 shortly thereafter. *Items completed: suggested - 5; mine - 3. I have found that students not making that Target are the same ones who are taking too long on lessons. Items Completed includes Lessons, Goals, and Fluency Checks.

12 Course Reports *Course Reports will give the teacher a summary of Word Training, Text Training, and Sight Words progress for the class as a whole and for individual students. *In Word Training, you can see scores for all Unit Goals: Say Sounds, Read Words, Spell Words, and Read Sentences. *In Text Training, you can see scores for Practice Activities, Content Mastery, and Power Passes. When you click on a score, it will show you the student s actual work. *In Sight Words, you can see the Floors scores by Bots and Games, and if you click on the student s name, you can see the skills and time.

13 Benchmark Reports *Benchmark reports will show you the students Lexiles on the PAR, and percentiles on the TOSCRF and TWS for all three Benchmarks. *You may also see Individual Benchmarks which will show you the students scores and percentiles for the PAR, TOSCRF, and TWS; for the PAR, their Lexiles are also shown.

14 Score Details *Score Details will show teachers just that: the details of the students Benchmark scores. *It will also give you the option to reset Benchmarks.

15 Parent Report *The Parent Report is a great place to see a summary of the students time in weekly averages and lesson averages on Word Training. *It will also give Power Pass averages for Text Training. *The Parent Report will give a summary of growth for comprehension, fluency, and spelling as well. *This is a great tool to share at Parent/Teacher Conferences, S-Teams, and IEP meetings.
