2 Main Topic Zayed Humanitarian Day July , the nineteenth day of Ramadan 1434 Hijri, marked the ninth death anniversary of the founding father of the UAE. The name of what was previously known as the annual UAE Humanitarian Day has now been officially changed. Under the instruction of the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the day will now be recognised as Zayed Humanitarian Day in what is a tribute to the founding father of the UAE the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. For the first time an event was held specifically for the occasion where Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid addressed the audience gathered to pay homage to the visionary efforts and long list of humanitarian initiatives launched by the late Sheikh Zayed. In his speech, Sheikh Mohammed described Zayed Humanitarian Day as an annual event in which we recall with pride the life of the founding father and we plan ahead a new year of Emirati humanitarian work to promote the UAE as a global capital for humanitarian works. The UAE Vice President closed the event by lauding all the humanitarian and charitable initiatives associated with the UAE. Philanthropy in the UAE he argued, not only spawned from the government and private sector but by the UAE community at large. This was something that the UAE should be incredibly proud of and is something that typifies this day. Much of the UAE community showed their support for the late Sheikh Zayed by turning to social media, specifically Twitter. The hashtag #Zayed was created which transformed into the number one trend in the UAE for that day. Numerous tweets with pictures were posted by those who remembered (as he was affectionately known) Baba Zayed s best teachings and influences. The TRA supported the Emirati Humanitarian Work Day 2013 with a significant financial contribution, falling in line with the Authority s Corporate Social Responsibly (CSR) program; the contribution will go towards clothing three hundred orphan s.and supporting financially struggling and prisoner families.

3 Oldies Beep Beep Beep! - The history of the pager Before text messaging, ringing mobile phones and BBM pings, many were alerted about urgent news through messages on the pager. A dedicated radio frequency (RF) device, the pager allows the user to receive messages broadcast on a specific frequency over a special network of radio base stations. In 1921, the first pager-like system was used by the Detroit Police Department; in 1949 it was the very first telephone pager which was patented by the Gross and used in a New- York City. However, the Gross pager was not a consumer device available to everyone. The Federal Communications Commission in the USA (FCC) did not approve the pager for public use until The name pager was first used in 1959 when Motorola made a personal radio communications product they called a pager. The Motorola pager was a small receiver that delivered a radio message individually to those carrying the device. The first successful consumer pager was Motorola s Pageboy I first introduced in It had no display and could not store messages; however, it was portable and notified the owner that a message had indeed been sent and received. By 1980, there were 3.2 million pager users worldwide. At that time, pagers had a limited range and were used mostly in on-site situations for example when medical workers communicate with each other within the hospital. By 1990, wide-area paging had been invented and over 22 million pagers were in use. By 1994, there were over 61 million pagers in use and pagers became popular for personal use. Older one-way pagers began to be replaced by more sophisticated messaging tools, such as two-way pagers. In the early 21st century, we began to see the growing popularity of cellphones which in turn was accompanied by a rapid decline in both the public s interest and usage of pagers. Nevertheless, pagers are still in use today in places where mobile phones typically cannot reach users and also in places where the operation of the radio transmitters contained in mobile phones is problematic or prohibited.

4 Coffee Break Dubai Chamber delegation visits TRA As part of its commitment to strengthening cooperation with all Government entities and organizations operating in the UAE, the TRA received a delegation from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry headed by Mrs Jehad Kazim, Director of Legal Services. The two sides discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation and coordination in order to best serve the business sector in the country and specifically Dubai Chamber members. During the visit, Mr. Mohammed Al Zarouni,.ae DA Director in the TRA delivered a presentation that briefed the delegation on the role of the national domain name (.ae) in serving the local internet community in general, and the business sector in particular. Additionally, the presentation highlighted the role of the TRA as regulator of the (.ae) domain registration process by setting policies that guarantee (.ae) customer rights and contribute to increasing the penetration rate of the national domain name (.ae) in the country. As it stands, the number of domain names registered under the symbol (.ae) in the UAE has exceeded 106,000. Mrs Kazim said that the visit to the TRA was very useful as it opened up the doors to enhanced cooperation and exchange of expertise and knowledge for better serving the business community of Dubai as she lauded the excellent role played by the TRA in elevating the quality of e-services in the country while upgrading it to global standards. She added that Dubai Chamber is one of the first entities to achieve institutional excellence in the field of e-services and looks forward to a fruitful cooperation with the TRA to promote its services amongst the business community in Dubai in line with the strategic objectives of the Chamber. With these discussions taking place, the UAE business community will continue to be well-served thanks to the dedicated efforts of the TRA and Dubai Chamber!

Cancel your lost/stolen credit cards as soon as possible. Get new ones, and use different PIN s. Use the same password for all your accounts and logins. Give out your credit card number(s) online. Keep trying to use your card after entering the wrong PIN 3 times. Proceed with any online transactions until you ensure that your webpage is secure. Respond to s requesting for personal or financial information from unknown sources. Use anti-virus, firewalls, filtering or attachment blocking software.

Electronic billing is a fantastic option from both consumer and business perspective. By accessing your bills electronically, operating costs are dramatically reduced which in turn, has a positive impact on the carbon footprint of the organization as a whole. From the consumer side, moving to ebills also means a lot less time is spent shredding paid monthly phone bills generating unwanted waste. ebills also enable customers to access their account information 24/7 across the world online and via their mobile devices. According to a report published in October 2012 by the Indonesian Pulp and Paper Association, Middle East countries consumed 19 million tonnes of paper in 2011, and this figure was expected to grow to 29 million tonnes over eight years. Despite what you may think, the report suggests that the increasing prevalence of social media and the large dependence on digital technologies were in actual fact having a minimal impact on the consumption of paper in the world. The per capita consumption of paper in the UAE was calculated at 175kg against the global average use of 62kg. The message to you all is then - save paper where possible and transfer you billing documents to online platforms! The environmental footprint of the UAE is a topic that occupies an extremely high position in the list of government priorities and rightly so. Any initiative that drives operational excellence, raises green awareness and ultimately aids the creation of a sustainable environment in the country, is one that all of us should throw our support behind.

The entire organization sends a huge congratulatory message to him for recently completing a Master s Business Administration in General Management degree from the Canadian University of Dubai. Graduating with an impressive CGPA, Hussain represents exactly the type of individual that the TRA is proud to call part of its team.
