3 -Timeline of the bilateral relations between the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates The United Arab Emirates was founded. The constituent emirates are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai Fujairah, Sharjah and Umm al-quwain. In 1972, Emirate Ras al Khaimah joined the country. The first President, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, is seen as the Founding Father of the UAE The Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates decided to strengthen their diplomatic relations. The former Netherlands ambassador to Iraq, J.G.N. de Hoop Scheffer, was accredited by the government of the UAE and signed on behalf of the Dutch government on 24 May 1972 an agreement with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan The United Arab Emirates appointed the first non-resident ambassador to the Netherlands in The Netherlands established a consulate general in Dubai on 25 March The Netherlands opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi on 28 July The Dutch ambassador, however, remained first in office in Kuwait. The status of the Abu Dhabi embassy was like the embassy in Baghdad fully recognized Convention on the economic, trade and technical cooperation. This treaty was signed in The Hague The Netherlands appointed it first resident ambassador in Abu Dhabi. After fifteen years of bilateral diplomatic relations, the Netherlands is represented by a Dutch ambassador in Abu Dhabi Airport transport agreement signed. This treaty was signed on 13 July The agreement is for the purpose of establishing air services between and beyond the respective territories Convention for the tax exemption on the income of the national airlines. This treaty was signed on the 27 April The agreement for the avoidance of double taxation on income and profits derived from international air transport Conventions of understanding on air transport services signed. The treaty was signed on the 10 April 2000.

4 2002 The United Arab Emirates opened its embassy in The Hague on 10 September The embassy was officially opened in 2002, although the bilateral relations between the Netherlands and the UAE date back for hundreds of years The United Arab Emirates appointed the first resident ambassador. H.E. Ali Thani Al Suwaidi was the first Emirati ambassador to the Netherlands effective in November Treaty for the Avoidance of Double Taxation signed. The agreement is to enhance the trade links between the two countries by minimizing the double taxation of income that may occur as a result of economic activities. The treaty allows for a zero percent Dutch withholding tax rate for dividends paid to government-owned UAE entities Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the judicial field in criminal matters and exchange of experiences. This MOU is signed on 6 August Appointment new ambassador of the UAE to the Netherlands. The successor of H.E. Ali Thani Al Suwaidi, H.E. Abdallah Hamdan Al Naqbi, took office on 5 May Memorandum of Understanding for political consultations. This MOU is signed on 28 May Official visit of H.M. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands to the UAE. The Queen was accompanied by the current King Willem-Alexander (then Crown Prince), the current Queen Máxima (then princess), former Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs. The Dutch delegation met H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Commander of the UAE armed forces and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai along senior officials of the State Official visit of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to the Netherlands in March The Sheikh met H.E. Frans Timmermans, Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Official visit of H.E. Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in order to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries Official visit of H.E. Henk Kamp, Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, to the UAE. Henk Kamp officially visited Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, with a large business delegation of Dutch multinationals representatives.

5 2013 Memorandum of Understanding cooperation in Energy Field. The UAE Ministry of Energy and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs signed an MOU on cooperation in the field of energy to exchange information on the activities, projects and technologies that will contribute to the strengthening of economic trade and technical cooperation between the two countries Bilateral investment protection treaty (BIT) signed. The BIT aims at strengthening the ties by promoting economic development and investments. The treaty is an international agreement establishing the terms and conditions for private investments by nationals and companies of one state in another state Official visit of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE armed forces visited the Nuclear Security Summit 2014 in The Hague. The Crown Prince met amongst others King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and United States President Barack Obama Working visit of H.E. Henk Kamp, Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs. Henk Kamp, with representatives of Dutch multinationals visited Dubai and Al Ain in the UAE.
