1 Information for Course Participants We are delighted to welcome you to the third RA-UK Cadaver Course, being held at the University of Oxford in conjunction with the Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics. The course will run over two full days on 6 th and 7 th of December; starting at 08:30 (registration from 8:15) and finishing at approximately 17:30, both days. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on both days and are included in the course fee. The course will be held at the of the University of Oxford. Directions to Oxford and the MSTC are included in this pack along with a list of links for those of you who require local accommodation. On the days of the course there will be A4-size posters on display which will direct you from South Parks Road to the MSTC entrance. On-site parking is not available at the venue so we suggest that you walk, use local transport or avail of the Park and Ride facilities around Oxford city (details below). 2 Directions How to find the : Directions and additional information regarding the MSTC may be found on the MSTC website listed above. However, we have included a summary of travel advice below, as well as local maps and suggested travel links. The MSTC is 5-10 minutes walk from the city centre and approximately 20 minutes from the train station (see maps 1 and 3 below). It is located at the east end of South Parks Road immediately behind the Dun School of Pathology. On the days of the course, there will be A4-size posters to guide you from South Parks Road to the entrance. The MSTC cannot offer parking on-site. Parking in the vicinity of the MSTC is generally limited to 3-4 hours at one time and is therefore unsuitable for attendance at an all-day course. There are 5 excellent Park and Ride schemes operating between the city centre and parking areas on the outskirts (see map 2 and Pear Tree Roundabout, north of the city centre on the A44 Woodstock-Oxford Road Redbridge, off Abingdon Road, two miles south of the city centre Seacourt, in Botley Road, one and a half miles west of the city centre Thornhill, next to Nielsen's on the A40 approach to Oxford, three miles east of the city Water Eaton, north of Oxford on the A4260 approach to Oxford Travel to Oxford by Road Oxford is about 60 miles (90 km) northwest of London and has excellent road links (see list below) which feed into a ring road around the city. The main Park and Ride areas and the city centre are well signposted from the ring road. 4 Map 2: Major routes into Oxford and position of Park and Ride facilities To Oxford by train The MSTC is roughly 20 minutes walk from Oxford Railway Station (see map 3). There are frequent trains from Birmingham New Street and London Paddington. Services from the south and west arrive via Reading. Taxis are available from the station and the MSTC is a 5-10 minute journey depending on traffic. 5 The Oxford Bus Company runs a regular 24-hour coach service (X70) from Heathrow airport to Oxford. The service travels directly to terminal 5 (journey time 80 minutes), then to the Heathrow central bus station which links to the other terminals (journey time 100 minutes). The North and South Terminals of Gatwick airport are served by the X80 which runs every hour, with a journey time of approximately 2.5hours. There are also frequent coach links to London 24-hours a day. Further information on all these services is available at and Travel in Oxford The Oxford Bus Company provides many local bus services in Oxford city, including the Park and Rides. Stagecoach also provides bus services within the city. Further information is available by clicking on the hyperlinks. Accommodation The course does not provide overnight accommodation facilities. Below is a list of websites which you may find of use in selecting an appropriate establishment in which to stay. For those who prefer to book directly with hotels and guesthouses we include a list of establishments within the city that are within walking distance of the MSTC. Please note that neither RA-UK nor the course organisers are affiliated with any of these establishments or sites. Inclusion in the list is not an endorsement of the establishments or the quality of the facilities they offer and so booking remains entirely at the risk of the individual. However, we would be extremely grateful if you could provide us with informal feedback on your chosen accommodation (esp. if sub-standard) to allow the list to be adjusted.
