1 IFBB PRESS RELEASE 2009 WORLD MEN S CLASSIC BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS MADRID, SPAIN IFBB - INTERNATIONAL BODYBUILDING & FITNESS FEDERATION - Established by Ben and Joe Weider in 1946 in Montreal, Canada, has been promoting and organizing bodybuilding activity all over the world. - Current International President: Dr. Rafael Santonja, Spain, elected at the 2006 IFBB International Congress in Prague, Czech Republic. - Affiliates 183 member countries (2008) and is the sixth biggest international sport federation in the world. - From 1968 has organized regular European Bodybuilding Championships. - In 1969, having over 60 member nations, was recognized by the GAISF (General Association of the International Sports Federations) as the only official federation supervising competitive bodybuilding worldwide. - In 1981 was founding-member of the World Games and IWGA (International World Games Association), participating in all World Games till now. - According to the recent IWGA decision, women s fitness will be the next official World Games sport, added to already present men s and women s bodybuilding. - Recognized by the several regional Olympic Games like Pan-American Games, South Pacific Games, Arab Games, South American Games, etc. - Has been doing doping control at all international championships since 1986 (Tokyo) and accepted the WADA Anti-doping Code. - Includes the six following competitive sports: men s bodybuilding, women s bodybuilding, men s fitness, women s fitness, men s classic bodybuilding, women s body-fitness. - Organizes over 1000 local, national, sub-continental, continental and world championships each year. - According to the statistics, over 100 millions of people regularly train in the gyms and fitness centers in five continents. - The 2009 World Women s Championships was staged in Como, Italy, on October 16-19, in the famous Villa Erba Complex. 174 athletes participated in10 official categories. The best teams were: Russia, Slovakia and Poland. - The 2009 World Men s Championships was staged in Doha, Qatar, on November 2-5, in the famous Al Majlis hall of the Sheraton Doha Hotel. 167 athletes from 54 countries participated in and even 75 countries were present at the annual IFBB International Congress.

2 - The 2009 World Juniors & Masters Championships was staged in Bialystok, Poland, on November A record number of 246 athletes from 43 countries took part in the Championships. They battled in 21 categories, including two new divisions: men s wheelchair bodybuilding and men s masters classic bodybuilding. - The 2009 World Classic Bodybuilding Championships will be staged in Madrid, Spain, on December DR. 4 WORLD MEN S CLASSIC BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY It is rather new discipline in the IFBB history. The 1 st World Men s Classic Bodybuilding Championships was held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, in 2--6, in conjunction with the World Men s Bodybuilding Championships. They were followed by the separately held events in Playa d Aro (2007) and Kaliningrad (2008). Men s Classic Bodybuilding was officially recognized as a new sport discipline by the IFBB Executive Council and IFBB Congress on November 27, 2005 (Shanghai, China). Classic Bodybuilding responds to the increasing worldwide demand for competitions for men who prefer, unlike today s current bodybuilders, to develop a less muscular, yet athletic and aesthetically pleasing physique. Traditionally, the World Men s Classic Bodybuilding Championships include also the World Fitness and Bodyfitness Cup: women s fitness, women s bodyfitness and men s fitness. Classic bodybuilding currently includes four body height categories: 170 cm; 175 cm; 180 cm and over 180 cm. The bodyweight limits for those categories are: 1. Up to & incl 170 cm Max Weight [kg] = (Height [cm] 100) + 2 [kg] 2. Up to & incl 175 cm Max Weight [kg] = (Height [cm] -100) + 4 [kg] 3. Up to 180 cm Max Weight [kg] = (Height [cm] -100) + 6 [kg] 4. Over 180 cm Max Weight [kg] = (Height [cm] -100) + 8 [kg] A*. For competitors with the body height over 190 cm up to and including 198 cm the following formula will be used: Max Weight [kg] = (Height [cm] 100) + 9 [kg] B*. For competitors with the body height over 198 cm the following formula will be used: Max Weight [kg] = (Height [cm] 100) + 10 [kg] * - All of them participate in one category, Over 180 cm. The following athletes won the 2008 world champion title: - Vladimir Kambarov (Russia) up to 170 cm - Vadzim Andreichyk (Belarus) up to 175 cm - Aleksander Denisenko (Russia) up to 180 cm and overall - Roman Plachinta (Russia) over 180 cm The best teams: Russia, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic and Switzerland.
