1 Postini Transition to Google Apps FAQ Why is Google making the changes to Postini Products? Google is committed to helping customers fundamentally transform the way they buy, deploy, and use information technology with Google Apps. Google acquired Postini in 2007 as part of our strategy to offer more services to businesses and organizations. Over the past four years, Google has integrated the Postini business -- including products, processes, and personnel -- into their Enterprise division. This integration is moving into the next phase where new products and features developed on the Google Apps platform replace the original Postini products. Postini customers can receive comparable security and archiving features, but on a more robust platform. How does this change affect me? The upcoming integration of Postini into Google will make it easier to manage spam filtering. Once the integration is complete, you will no longer have to login to a separate interface to see what spam is being caught. Google s webmail platform does not provide spam sensitivity controls; however, the Google webmail interface is constantly learning and acts as an interactive system that makes it simple for users. By simply marking messages as spam in the Google webmail interface, users provide specific information to Google s filters about mail preferences. Will I still receive my Quarantine Summary report daily or weekly? Google will be adding a Quarantine Summary report that is comparable to what you experience with Postini today. The summary will list all messages that were marked as spam and give you the ability to identify a message as not spam and deliver it to your inbox. At this time Google has not announced a date when this feature will be available, in the meantime end-users will be able to access and review all messages that were classified as spam at any time by simply opening their Spam label located inside their Gmail web client in the left navigation menu. The message is then instantly moved to their Gmail Inbox. Will I still be able to add addresses to my block and allow senders list?

3 Through the use of filters and labels, you will be able to get the same functionality of a block and allow senders list. This will be managed and maintained within the Google webmail interface. The Quarantine summary will also allow you to manage your spam. Old way to block users Users were able to add addresses and domains to the Block S New way to block users The user can click the spam tab to mark the message as spam and move it to the spam label. The message can then be found in the spam label located on the left side of the screen. New way to block users using Google Filters

What are the differences between the old Postini and the integrated version? The Google webmail interface responds to input from the user about what is spam or not. It does not require interaction by the user to manually adjust thresholds or add approved or blocked senders. When you mark or unmark messages as spam, Google customizes filtering behavior, and virus protection. Postini required a more hands on approach to managing spam. Google s integrated version will take some of the confusion out of the spam filtering process. It will provide increased protection against phishing-based attacks and messages that contain URLs that point to malicious sites. Will messages be harvested from Postini? No, messages will not be harvested from Postini. What happens to messages that are in Postini after the migration? After the DNS changes have been made end-users will have 7 days that they can access Postini via MyAccount (myaccount.affiliatedomain), App Portal (insert url sample like myaccount) and Localtoolbox (MyCommunity). Will my current block and allow senders list carry over into the integrated version? No.
