1 GUIDE TO JOENSUU REGION BUSES, TICKETS AND FARES Waltti card Joensuu has had new tickets and fares since January Tickets are priced according to zones. Hence the price of your ticket depends on whether you travel within one or more zones. Waltti card is a plastic smartcard which can be personalized based on whether you want unlimited travels for a set period of time or store credit onto a prepaid ticket. On the bus, you can of course also pay with cash. There are two different types of Waltti cards to choose from: Personal Waltti When buying a Personal Waltti card you will need to take an ID with you. It cannot be used by anyone other than the card owner as customer information will be saved onto the customer register. This enables various services, such as: You can report a lost personal Waltti card and the card can be cancelled by your identity number by visiting a service point Waltti card can be replaced, and the value from the lost card will be transferred onto the new one. The new card costs 7. Concessions can be loaded onto your personal card (e.g. reduced price to students) Age group can be modified only at Carelicum service point People with no Finnish social security number can also receive a Personal Waltti card. You can buy a card only from Carelicum service point. You will need to take an ID with you. Regular Waltti A regular Waltti card can be purchased by anyone as only the customer s payment group (adult, youth or child) will be entered in order to ensure they are paying the correct fare. Features of a regular Waltti card are: Age group cannot be changed Lost card cannot be cancelled or replaced Concessions (e.g. student discount) cannot be loaded onto regular Waltti cards

2 Loading tickets onto your Waltti After you have purchased your Waltti card from Carelicum service point, you can load tickets onto your Waltti card in Carelicum, on buses that carry a Jojo Waltti sign. There are two different tickets you can load in order to fit your travel needs: Season ticket Valid for unlimited travel for 30 consecutive days The price of the ticket varies according to the number of zones you wish to travel in (i.e. one or more zones) Concessions are available (students) Season ticket gives you the freedom to travel for 30 days as much as you like within the zones you have selected. Your Season ticket must cover all the zones you travel through. Prepaid ticket You can load value (i.e. money) onto your Waltti card Valid as long as there is value remaining on the card Prepaid fares for journeys are cheaper than paying cash Can be used to pay for more than one person (the 2 nd passenger must be either within the same or younger payment group than the card owner) Concessions available (students) You can put money on your Waltti card and then use it as pay-as-you-go credit to pay for journeys on bus within Jojo Zones A-C. Prepaid credit on your Waltti card never expires - it stays there until you use it. Once you've used up your credit, simply top it up to use the card again. When you travel with Prepaid ticket, you tell every time the bus driver the zones within you want to travel. You can top up your Prepaid card in euro multiples. Minimum purchase is 5 and maximum purchase is 500. If you purchase your card in bus, the maximum purchase in cash is 150. You can keep both Prepaid value and a Season ticket on your Waltti card at the same time but it prioritises the Season ticket to make sure you get the full use of the season you have paid for.

3 Waltti Student Card Zones Fares Intended to students who are 25 years old or older. You must be a full-time student (minimum of 25 hours a week) and studying towards a degree The length of the academic year must be the minimum of 8 months (for foreign exchange and degree students minimum of 3 months) You need to study at an university or college in Joensuu, Kontiolahti or Liperi Season and/or Prepaid ticket Students younger than 25, may travel with a Youth ticket. Waltti Student Card may be purchased from Carelicum service point (Koskikatu 5, Joensuu). You need to take with you an Identification and a student discount form which available online: There are the following payment zones within Joensuu Region Public Transport (Jojo): City-zone covers the most inner area 2-3 kilometres from the city market place, payment only in cash. Zone A covers the city area, within an approximately 8 kilometre radius of Joensuu city centre and Onttola. Zone B covers the rest of the local area, including Liperi, Ylämylly, Honkalampi, Lehmo, Kontiolahti, Kontioniemi, Kulho, Paihola,Hammaslahti, Reijola, Niittylahti, and Joensuu Airport. Zone B is outside of Zone A and is within a kilometre radius of Joensuu city centre. Zone C covers an area within a 35 kilometre radius of Joensuu city centre, only some Jojo school bus routes in Viinijärvi, Selkie, Mönni. Payment groups Tickets are sold according to the passenger s age group. Age groups are the following: Children (7-16 years) Youth (17-24 years) Adult (25 years and above)

5 ELY Waltti Cards or Matkahuolto Travel passes If your journey extends outside of Jojo Zones A, B and C, you will need to use a ELY Waltti Card or travelcard available from Matkahuolto (Joensuu Region ticket, North Karelia ticket or other Matkahuolto ticket products). Price Travel passes, from Matkahuolto Regional ticket, residents of Joensuu, valid for 30 days Regional ticket, residents of Kontiolahti, valid for 30 days Regional ticket, residents of Liperi, valid for 30 days North Karelia ticket, valid for 30 days West-bound journeys Regional ticket is valid for journeys within Joensuu, Kontiolahti, Liperi, Outokumpu and Polvijärvi. Travelcards are valid until 31 st December 2016 and may be bought for the following routes: 1. East of Paihola incl. Eno, Uimaharju, Lieksa 2. East bound incl. You can use a travelcard (Regional ticket) on Savonlinja-yhtiöt (Linja-Karjala) buses.

6 Guide to buses Using your Waltti card Transferring Season ticket You only need to touch in on the yellow card reader on the bus at the start of your journey. The card reader will register your journey. Prepaid ticket Touch in on the yellow card reader at the start of your journey after which the driver selects a correct zone count and number of people travelling. The card has to be placed on the card reader again in order to register the charged sum on the card. With certain limitations, transferring is allowed for free within Jojo area. Transfer tickets are valid only on buses with Jojo logos. Valid transfer times are calculated from the beginning of the first journey (the moment of paying a single journey ticket or using your Waltti card). Time and zone validity will be visible on the ticket. How to use a transfer ticket? If paying by cash, your receipt will serve as the transfer ticket. Hand it to the driver of the bus you transfer to. If you use your Waltti card, the transfer time will be recorded on your card. Transfer tickets have set validity times: Tickets allocated for 1 zone: transfer within an hour Tickets allocated more than 1 zone: transfer within 2 hours Passengers travelling free of charge Driver of the bus keeps track of all people travelling free of charge. Children Children younger than 7 years old travel free of charge.

7 Prams Pets and cycles Pram and the accompanying person travel free of charge on low-floor buses (see timetable booklet for more information). When travelling with a pram, please be prepared that you may not be able to fit to travel on the first bus. Pets Pets may travel on the bus with no extra cost. The following dogs are always allowed on the bus: - police dog - guide and assistance dogs - assistance dogs in training Decision of bringing other pets on board is made by the driver of the bus on a caseby-case basis. The driver will be allowed to prohibit bringing a pet on board if the bus is close to its maximum capacity, there are other pets on the bus already or if other passengers object bringing the pet on board. The owner of the pet is responsible for ensuring that the pet does not disturb any other passengers. Joensuu Council follows the recommendations by the Finnish Bus and Coach Association on bringing pets on buses. Instructions state that passengers may bring regular and harmless pets on the bus with them at their own risk only if there is space. Pets ought to be placed on the bus so that they cause as little disturbance to other passengers as possible. You may NOT place your pet on the seats and you must ensure it is on a leash and under control at all times. If a customer, who was on the bus prior to the entrance of the pet, has allergies, they will be allowed to say where the pet must be placed. Additionally, customer with allergies may ask the driver to not allow the pet on the bus. However, fellow travellers are not allowed to object guide and assistance dogs entering the bus. Cycles and bulky items Decision of bringing cycles and other bulky items on the bus is made by the driver of the bus on a case-by-case basis. You must purchase a children s ticket for you cycle which may be paid with a Waltti card.

8 Timetables Delays and changes Weather, traffic and other conditions may possibly slow down driving momentarily or even force some departures to be cancelled. Possible changes in timetables will be announced on the Jojowebsite: Bus Departures Timetable Service Free timetable service is now available on bussit.joensuu.fi You can use the service to search for departure times for each bus stop, departures by the line name, or use a route search. It is also possible to search for and plan your routes on a map. Additionally, you can login on the service and save the details of your most used journey. There is also a mobile version available to enable You to bring the timetable service with You whenever and wherever.
