6 Recovery of infrastructures Supply of electricity We are making the utmost efforts to match supply and demand during the peak-load summer on both the demand side (intensive energy saving) and supply side (capacity expansion of thermal plants) TEPCO forecasts a supply electricity capacity of 52,000 MW for this summer. 8 Recovery of the industry The supply chain 80% of the processing industry and more than 60% of the materials industry have almost secured alternative suppliers of raw materials, components and parts Some companies are still seeking some specific raw materials, components and parts It is expected that most of damaged companies will resume and be able to maintain supply chains Source: METI 8

10 Recovery of the industry Effects on specific industries: (2) Petrochemicals Mitsubishi Chemical s Kashima Plant, which has suffered some damage from the Great East Japan Quake, is responsible for about 10% of Japan s ethylene production Even if it cannot be repaired soon, Japan has many other complexes which can produce more than the necessary volume of petrochemicals Source: METI 10
