1 Student Council Contract The following rules & regulations are in effect for all student council members. Failure to comply with these rules may result in the student s dismissal from student council. Student council members are expected to attend all general assembly meetings. If unable to attend, members must turn in a completed Excuse Form at least 24 hours before the scheduled meeting. Student council members can miss up to four general assembly meetings per semester. The student will be dismissed from student council for the current semester upon his or her fifth unexcused absence. Student council members will stay until the conclusion of the meeting. If a student must leave early, an Excuse Form must be completed or they will be considered absent. All student council members are required to complete four hours of student council related service outside of general assembly meetings per semester. This service must be logged on the student s information sheet. Failure to complete the required service may result in dismissal from student council. All student council members must obey the school s code of conduct policy. Failure to do so may result in dismissal from student council. Class Officers and Student Council Officers have additional responsibilities to be named later in this packet. The student and his or her legal guardian must sign this form. It must then be returned to the student council sponsor by. A copy for the student s records will be provided upon request. 3 The students in each class elect Class Officers at the end of the spring semester; Freshmen Officers are elected at the beginning of the school year. Class Officers have the following responsibilities: Class Officers must follow the attendance policies set for student council. Class Officers who fail to meet the attendance requirement may lose their position as class officer. Class Officers should assist Student Council Officers whenever needed. The Senior Class President will lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the year institute. All Class Officers must meet the requirements set forth by the corresponding class sponsors. Student Council Officers will be elected at a general assembly meeting. Student Council Offices are not limited to Class Officers; anyone in the general assembly may be elected. Student Council Officers have the following responsibilities: President o Must be a Junior or Senior student o Coordinate with the other Student Council Officers to ensure completion of others responsibilities o Will meet with the school board once a month to discuss current events/activities in which student council has been involved o Lead the meetings of the general assembly o Report to the principal when appropriate Vice-President o Must be a Junior or Senior student o Record attendance at each meeting o Fulfill responsibilities of the president in his or her absence Secretary o Create the agenda (with the input of the other officers) for each general assembly meeting. o Take minutes/notes during the meetings of the executive board to ensure that all ideas are documented Treasurer o Assist documenting items sold/fundraisers/ticket information o Place orders for t-shirts/decorations/fundraiser material

4 What to expect from Student Council Executive Board (Student Council Officers) will meet at least once every week General Assembly (all Student Council members) will meet at least once every other week There will be a Student Council pizza party at least once a quarter There will be a Student Council outing at least once a semester What Student Council does Shares ideas o Talk with other students from various grade levels o Discuss necessary changes to policies o Provides a platform for voices to be heard o Provides a liaison between students and administration Plans and organizes the dances o Choose themes o Choose spirit days o Choose decorations o Make decorations o Sell tickets Runs and organizes elections o Creates ballots o Assists/Monitors campaigns Philanthropic events o Raises money for various organizations o Organizes food/clothing/toy drives o King of the Warriors o LWSRA Wheelchair Basketball Game/PE Takeover Conference commitment o Attends leadership conferences held by SWSC schools o Plans and organizes the SWSC conference (in turn)
