2 2 How do I enrol? Community Education Courses Classes commence at Various dates throughout the year Contact your Centre for details. All students must provide proof of ID, National Insurance Number and proof of benefit if claiming a concession or exemption. No early enrolments will be permitted. All enrolments are on a first come first served basis. Enrolments cannot be made for learners who are unable to attend the enrolment session. If you cannot get to the centre please use the postal enrolment form included in this brochure. Postal enrolments can be used, but will not be opened until after the enrolment period for that particular subject area, or at the end of each working day during the enrolment period. Postal enrolments do not guarantee a place on the course. If you miss enrolment times, don t worry. It will be possible to enrol at the first session of the class of your choice, unless the class is full. Some classes will not be able to run unless there are 10 learners enrolled by week 3 of the course. If you are unsure if a class is for you, then a tutor will be available to offer advice and guidance at enrolment sessions or on the first session of the class.

NB Postal enrolments will be dealt with at the end of the working day on which they are received during the enrolment period. You will be required to complete a full enrolment form during the first week of the course. 4 4 Risca Basic Skills Unit Improve your English and Maths Gain confidence and improve your skills in a small, friendly group. Morning, afternoon or evening classes available all year in centres throughout Caerphilly County Borough: Bedwas, Crumlin, Bargoed, Risca and Blackwood All classes are FREE! ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Classes held in Risca and Caerphilly. There is an accreditation fee and you may have to pay for these classes. Family Learning Classes are held in local schools to help parents improve their skills so that they are able to support their children s learning. Community classes and home support now available. All classes are FREE! Language and Play Fun, interactive sessions for parents and children (0-4 years) in the home, community and schools. Workplace Classes FREE courses are held in local companies for employees to improve their skills. For further details on any of the above courses, please call Claire at the Basic Skills Unit on

9 9 Lifestyle Choice Courses Lifestyle courses start at various times throughout the year. 10 week courses cost 80 per person unless otherwise specified. Prices are based on 10 learners in each class. Classes without 10 learners may not run. There are no concessions available. All course fees must be paid before you start. Enrolment details are either listed by each course or in the enrolment section in the front of this booklet. Courses are either 5 weeks or 10 weeks. Lifestyle courses are all non-accredited.

14 14 Independent Living Skills We have a wide range of classes available in our Independent Living Skills (ILS) programme for adults with learning disabilities/difficulties. The courses are carefully structured to build confidence and encourage personal and social development. Qualified staff provide a high level of support. Most classes are for 2 hours. Enrol for a 36 weeks in total. Gain a nationally recognised qualification OCN/OCR/WJEC. Meet new people and friends. We are unable to accept postal enrolments for ILS. Class subjects, times, fees and locations are correct at going to print. They may vary during the year and are subject to alteration without prior notice. Places are limited in ILS classes.
