1 WSSTP workshop Bridging Water, Industry and the AgriFood sector Innovations for jobs & growth in Europe,, Brussels Scope of the Workshop Implementing the Juncker Agenda that aims to create jobs and growth in Europe requires a major innovation push and a faster uptake of new opportunities in the actual development of business cases. Agriculture and Foodindustry can play a major role when they focus on innovations within and between chains and on new markets. The green and circular economy offer new opportunities to make this happen. To enable this, capacity building, clear knowledge infrastucture, and investment opportunities are needed in order to implement innovative reuse efficient technologies to the market. This involves the sharing of needs, insights and experiences between individuals and organisations that are at the frontline of actually realizing the green and circular economy in water and in agri and food. New impulses from the Food and feed industry can help to stimulate innovation in agriculture. Vice versa, the AgriFood industry can benefit from new new and green ways to produce and source raw materials (as ingredients for feed). New Partnerships within the triple helix (Private sector, Government, Knowledge) are needed in which all parties can benefit from new ways of cooperation. On various places in Europe (France, Denmark, etc.) there are examples of agro (and food) clusters that aim at the innovations we aim for and the EU and member states have innovation policies (EIP, Top Sector policies (NL), etc.), but how can we improve upon them to tailor them to the most recent opportunities. We need to think out of the box. Innovation platforms and new ways of cooperation within the triple helix (and including civic society even within the quadruple helix) can help to emerge from traditional sector innovations.

2 The workshop Bridging Water, industry and the Agri food sector Innovations for jobs & growth in Europe,, in Brussels aims to support to achieve the above. The main goals of this one day meeting are: - To discuss and evaluate the successes and failures of the working of the Triple helix of important regional innovation initiatives. - To elaborate policy recommendations to improve the success of innovation actions in regions The workshop will help to inspire and unpack concepts, that ultimately are viable in practice and support the development of new business cases leading to actual business and growth. The workshop will create an open setting, in which we can exchange needs, experiences and insights from existing innovation cases and platforms, where the emphasis is on demonstrating how the triple helix can work, need to be organized and what is still missing. This workshop will be the starting point for a regular debate on stimulating innovations in Europe. The workshop is setup to create an open setting for exchanging needs, insights and experiences on promising triple helix approaches for green and circular innovations in agri and food and water. The set up has the following characteristics: Two roundtable sessions will be organized around the platforms represented. While the first session serves the building of a shared understanding, the second will be used to identify concise innovation potentials and barriers. The number of frontal presenations will be limited to create room for pitches to introduce current innovation platforms and for actual That in turn will help to stimulate more targeted discussions during the breaks. The work shop is set up to be of interest for the private sector, public sector, research and education and innovation service providers.the workshop is organized on behalf of the WSSTP and is co-convened by the Working group Industry and the Working group Water and Agrifood. It is aimed to repeat the workshop annually and offer hence a platform for a vibrant exchange.
