Please note that higher education refers to any education AFTER secondary or high school education. The lack of any higher education is not necessarily going to result in your application being rejected. If you have enough work experience at a sufficiently senior level, you might still be accepted on to one of our programmes; your Enrolment Advisor can advise you if you have any questions. 11 Application Form Part If you HAVE studied at a university or higher education institution

If you HAVE studied at a university or other higher education institution, select Yes as shown, and then click on Add an institution. List your main subjects/projects: This would normally be the modules that comprised your programme of study, i.e. what appears on your transcript or academic record. 13 Describe in detail your main subjects/projects: This would be more detailed information about your studies. You can then click on Add this institution, as shown and go to Application Form Part 3.05.

Application Form Part If you HAVE studied a subject at a university or higher education institution and DID receive a degree or other academic award Please supply the following information: Name of University/Institution: Please give the full name of any academic institution you attended, not the acronym for example, University of California, Los Angeles instead of UCLA. If you want to edit information you have already entered, click on Edit for that institution. 15 Once you have entered information for each programme of study you have followed at a university or higher education institution you can go on to tell us about your professional qualifications and work experience. Please see Application Form Part 3.06, below.

Application Form Part Adding Employer Information Experience In the Add an employer box: Under Employer Information, as a minimum for each employer supply: Name of Employer Country of Employer City of Employer 18

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE COMPLETING POSITION INFORMATION The application form takes the place of a face-to-face interview with academics, and is what the University uses to decide if you would make a good student. A poor quality application could lead to your application being rejected by the University because it would fail to provide detailed enough information for them to form a good opinion of your abilities. You should expect to spend at least as much time on completing this application form as you would if you were preparing your CV/resume and letter of application to apply for a dream job. However, if you already have an up-to-date CV/resume, you can obviously reuse information in that in your application. In telling us about your work experience, please avoid blanket statements like in charge of quality control. Be specific I was responsible for quality control in the company s factory in Madrid, producing over 100,000 units a year. The University will want to see what you do on a day-to-day basis. 19 Whenever possible, make the information specific to the programme you are applying for. If you are applying for a Marketing programme, include details about your marketing experience, and be specific. In charge of Marketing gives the University no idea about your abilities or experience; give details. If you are applying to a programme that is not obviously connected to you previous employment, make sure that any connection is obvious. For example, you may have previously worked in a logistics position, but may now want to study for an MSc in Global Marketing because you did marketing activities in addition to your normal job role; you would need to make this marketing work experience clear.

Application Form Part Adding Position Information In the Add work experience box under Position Information, if it is your current position, please select Yes as shown. Please note: For Describe your Main Responsibilities, you should give a description of the main responsibilities and day-to-day duties in that position. Please provide as much information as possible for example, Manager of IT department is not enough. In Please provide details specific to your role, it is important to provide enough information about what you did in each position; a couple of sentences for each year you held the position is a minimum. Provide examples where relevant. Please do NOT add information for more than one position at the same employer. Instead, add one position and then click on Add this Employer and follow the instructions in Application Form Part When you have added all the details for this position, then click on Add this Employer, and go to Application Form Part 3.10.

Application Form Part Adding more employment information or editing employment information you have already added After you have added a position to your Employment Information, you should continue adding information for each position you have held: For additional positions at the same employer, click on Add Position. For positions at other employers, click on Add Work Experience. If you want to edit information you have already added, then please click on Edit for the relevant position. 21 When you have added information about all the positions that you have held, please go to Application Form Part 3.11.

Application Form Part Motivational Statement (Introduction) The motivational statement should be a substantial personal statement (ideally at least 500 words in length), explaining why you want to study. Just as you needed to supply detailed information about your employment because the application form replaces a face-to-face interview, the motivational statement also allows you to impress on the University why you would be a good student. It is quite possible that the University would reject a prospective student with good work experience and academic qualification if the motivational statement fails to impress the University. It will also be used to evaluate the quality of your written English is, so care should be taken in this respect. We advise you to write your motivational statement in Microsoft Word or some other word processing programme and then to copy and paste it into the box provided. This will prevent you losing any work if you are logged out by the Application Portal. The motivational statement should talk about what you have done previously to make you want to study the programme that you are interested in, what you hope to get out of the programme, and what you want to do in the future. 22 All applicants are advised to focus on the following elements as standard in their motivational statements: Demonstrating how they expect their experience to help them prepare for the Masters programme. Describing their responsibilities and how these are relevant to the subject area in which they would like to study. Providing specific examples which relate to particular modules of the programme. Describing how they have they applied themselves to the area of work which demonstrates potential to further develop in this area. Please note that the University uses software to check motivational statements in order to ensure that they are the applicant s own work. Any application containing a motivational statement that has been copied, either wholly or in part from elsewhere (for example, from online) will be rejected.

For some programmes, we provide specific guidance on the writing of a motivational statement: Management Programmes - please see Application Form Part 3.12 DBA Programme - please see Application Form Part 3.13 MPH Programmes - please see Application Form Part 3.14 Law Programmes - please see Application Form Part 3.15 Psychology Programmes - please see Application Form Part 3.16 When you have completed writing your motivational statement, please go to Application Form Part

Application Form Part Motivational statement (Management programmes) The programme you are applying for must be mentioned in the statement. Break the statement into two parts: 1. How your work and/or academic experience is relevant to the programme you are applying for. At least one paragraph of the statement should indicate why you feel you are professionally/academically qualified to be admitted and successfully complete the programme. More specifically: 1. Demonstrate how you expect your experience to help you prepare for the programme. 2. Give examples of how you have dealt with tasks at work relevant to the subject area and how you think this experience will be applicable to your studies. 3. Describe your professional progression from the start of your career to date and explain the skills you have gained throughout this period. 4. Provide specific examples which relate to particular modules of the programme For the Master of Business Administration programme please highlight your people and budget management experience, providing examples. 6. For the MSc in Project Management programme please highlight your project management experience, providing examples. 2. What is your personal motivation to study the programme you are applying for. In this part of the motivational statement, the candidate has to present their motivation to study the master programme. More specifically: Why this programme of study is important you. What you hope to gain from the programme. What will make you a good student. What your career plans are and how the programme will help you achieve your career goals. What aspects of the programme appeal to you. When you have completed writing your motivational statement, please go to Application Form Part Application Form Part Motivational statement (DBA programme)

Work experience must be presented in a comprehensive way, providing evidence of senior management level of experience. You are expected to describe advanced people, budget and project management skills in a clear, coherent way. Your job/position titles do not indicate the scope of the responsibilities and those should be thoroughly explained. It might be a good idea to describe the structure of the company providing a better understanding of the range of duties. It is advised to clearly present career progression. The Motivational essay for a doctorate student is an indication of their academic writing skills. It should be written in a comprehensive, advanced style. You should explain your understanding of Critical Action Learning and how you can implement it in an appropriate organizational context (e.g., place of work, volunteer organization, etc.) so as to accomplish the Action Learning and Action Research projects. The motivational statement should also explain, as for the other programmes, the reasons for study, how the programme will benefit you, but also how your work experience equipped them to undertake doctorate studies and you will contribute to the classroom. As a part of the admission process, all the doctorate candidates are also required to take a Measured Success test; please ask your Enrolment Advisor for details. 25 When you have completed writing your motivational statement, please go to Application Form Part 3.17.

Application Form Part Motivational statement (MPH programme) The motivational statement asks four questions. Please give detailed answers: 1. We would like to hear about your relevant experience what you hope to achieve by the end of the MPH programme and why is this important to you. 2. What have you learned from your work experience (paid or voluntary) that you will be able to bring to the classroom in terms of insights about health, illness and public health? 3. Tell us about a time when you identified a new approach to a complex problem? 4. Describe a situation where you got people to work together. Describe how you did that and what the impact was. When you have completed writing your motivational statement, please go to Application Form Part

Application Form Part Motivational statement & essay (Law programmes) Candidates for the Master of Laws programmes are expected to submit: 1. A motivational statement; this should talk about what you have done previously to make you want to study the programme that you are interested in, what you hope to get out of the programme, and what you want to do in the future. See Application Form Part 3.11 for details. 2. An essay in a separate document (Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word format) that you send to your Enrolment Advisor. The essay should document the core managerial skills expected of Master of Laws students, as outlined below. Your application essay Submitting an outstanding essay to support your application is vital in gaining admission to the programme, regardless of your academic background. It is the written evidence of core managerial experience that the Faculty of Law use to assess the nature and quality your experience. Core Managerial Skills: Critical and analytical thinking Experience in drafting lengthy and complicated documents, reports and evidence of complex written communication Experience in time management, evidence of working to strict deadlines and constraints Experience in independent research, evidencing intellectual capabilities to research and resolve unknown complicated problems and situations 27 The essay should provide a CLEAR, CONCISE, DETAILED account of your professional experience. In addition to this, the essay should provide an impression of your command of the English language as this is used in conjunction with any English-language tests to assess your suitability.. When you have completed writing your essay, send it to your Enrolment Advisor. For details of how to complete the rest of your application form, please go to Application Form Part 3.17.
