Tokio Marine Kiln Group Graduate Programme Tokio Marine Kiln is a leading international provider of specialist and corporate insurance for clients within the Lloyd s and Company markets. Formed in 2014 through the integration of Kiln Group and Tokio Marine Europe, Tokio Marine Kiln has been founded on empowered expertise and the strength of its relationships. As part of one of the world s largest insurance groups, Tokio Marine Group, we empower more than 700 employees in 22 cities to protect customers against complex and ever changing risks. We have seven underwriting divisions focused on Specialist Property, Liability & Motor; Corporate Property & Liability; Construction; Marine & Enterprise Risk; Aviation & Space; Accident, Health & Life; and Reinsurance products, which are complemented by a first class claims team and an expert risk engineering service. Historically, Kiln Group was the first Lloyd s managing agency to employ graduate trainees, and is consistently recognised as having one of the best trainee programmes in the Lloyd s market. Now, as Tokio Marine Kiln Group ( TMK ), we bring together two strong, longstanding businesses with distinct yet complementary capabilities, offering even more potential for our graduate trainees. TMK graduates benefit from a development and rotation programme that exposes them to both the Lloyd s and Company insurance platforms. This in turn means that our graduate career paths lead to roles in a much wider range of specialist business areas. We most commonly run graduate programmes which focus on careers in: Underwriting Claims Actuarial Other speciality programmes may be run when required by the business (e.g. Finance/IT)
Graduate trainee programme details Our business portfolio is highly specialised and the training graduates receive is crucial to ensure they get the most from the programme. All of our graduates experience a minimum two-year programme, during which we will provide a thorough grounding in the core aspects of our business. A series of three-month placements in different parts of the business (tailored to each programme) offers defined learning and achievement. Graduates will have agreed objectives that will be regularly reviewed through progress assessments, along with the opportunity to create a network of contacts through established groups within the London insurance market. Placements can include experience with teams in the following business areas: Lloyd s and Company platform underwriting (e.g. Property, Marine, Aviation, A&H, Life, Reinsurance, etc) Claims Catastrophe risk modelling Capital modelling Underwriting management and performance (UMAP) Other operational or underwriting support teams as appropriate to the programme. The number of vacancies we have each year, and the career paths recruited for, depend on our current business needs and requirements. Requirements When recruiting for our UK graduate programmes, we look for: A 2:1 honours degree or better in any subject Strong communication skills Well demonstrated analytical skills Proven numeric ability Excellent interpersonal skills Fluency in English. Graduates educated outside the UK will be expected to hold an equivalent level of academic qualification.
Selection process Application and interview process When the graduate programme is open to applications, you will need to complete our Graduate Programme application form and submit this via the required method (to be detailed at the time). You will then need to successfully complete the initial selection process, which will include a review of all applications received. You may then be invited to participate in telephone and face-to-face interviews, if your initial application has been shortlisted. Online assessments If you pass the interview stages of the selection process, you will be asked to complete a number of online assessments including a personality questionnaire and verbal and numerical critical reasoning tests. The results of these tests may help to determine whether you are invited to return for the assessment day at Tokio Marine Kiln. The assessment day at Tokio Marine Kiln If you are shortlisted following the online assessment stage, you may be invited to join a small number of candidates at our assessment day. The morning will normally comprise a series of half-hour interviews with management and others from within the business. The rest of the day will involve lunch with existing graduate trainees and time visiting our underwriting boxes at Lloyd s or other teams associated with the programme that you ve applied for. This will allow you to spend time with a number of Tokio Marine Kiln employees, including senior managers. At the end of the day you have the opportunity to network with our employees at a social event. The purpose of the day is to help us to get to know you better and assess your suitability for the graduate programme. It also provides you with a good opportunity to find out more about working life at Tokio Marine Kiln and our culture and values. A final decision will be made within a few days of this where possible, and all candidates will be contacted directly.
Graduate training and career development Getting started: Induction to TMK During your first two weeks, a series of meetings, courses (technical insurance and communication), seminars and lunches will be organised for you to meet key people from around the organisation, and develop your understanding of what we do. Mentoring programme In addition to working with your HR mentor, who will meet with you regularly to talk through your rotation feedback and study progress, we also have a business mentoring programme available. We can match a trained mentor from around the business to you, to provide you with another source of advice and support. Graduates find this relationship extremely useful to develop their business and commercial awareness. Professional studies Professional studies are a key element of all TMK graduate programmes. Whether you are studying for the ACII, ACCA or the FIA at TMK, our graduates are encouraged to tap into an invaluable network of employees who have studied, or are studying, the same modules. Study groups and generous study support help you to progress through your professional studies at a manageable pace over your two years on the programme, with the added incentive of study-related awards as you successfully complete exams/modules. Career management: Throughout your graduate programme, you will be encouraged to take personal ownership of your learning, in liaison with our Talent and Development team within HR. As you progress through the graduate programme, your training and development will focus on different areas to support your career path, as outlined below: > First three months Personal Brand Technical Insurance Regulatory Networking > First year Personal Brand Technical Insurance Regulatory Networking Personal Effectiveness & IT Professional Study > Second year Technical Insurance Regulatory Networking Personal Effectiveness & IT Professional Study

It is crucial that you can show the PRA and FCA, as well as our clients, that you are up to date with the latest regulatory developments. Every six months the Head of Compliance will give an update and/or training on topics such as the Structure of Lloyds and the International Regulatory Agenda. Personal Effectiveness and IT Time Management Report Writing Body Language Awareness Microsoft Excel A selection of training courses are selected in order to help develop specific skills which are beneficial to the Graduate Trainee role, and which are also of benefit for potential future roles you may have at TMK. Internal applications are required for these courses and places will be allocated based on a number of factors, including personal performance and career goals: Application Only Syndicate Business Planning - LMA The Role of the Actuary LMA NB. We are not able to guarantee that all of these courses will be run each year, but will endeavour to hold these where business appetite permits. Beyond the graduate programme: If you are successfully placed in a permanent role, an international placement for up to two months will be available at one of TMKs overseas offices. This will be working in an area that is relevant to your permanent role, and is an experience that many consider to be the icing on the cake of their graduate programme. Having the opportunity to immerse yourself in a different culture and working environment opens your eyes to the international insurance market, and offers a learning experience that is unique to our programme.

A Graduate's Tale: First Impressions I chose Kiln due to its excellent reputation and its unique business culture and values Natasha Streetin Joined Kiln in: 2012 Degree course: BA (hons) English & History, University of Portsmouth ( ) Graduate programme: Claims Why did you choose TMK and the Lloyd's market? I first discovered TMK through its listing on 'The Times Top 100 Best Companies To Work For', and was impressed by its high ranking position and the comments made by employees. This prompted me to look into the graduate programmes available, and in turn find out more about Lloyd's and the insurance industry. It wasn't a sector I had previously given much thought to, but I was immediately attracted to the innovative, vastly diverse and fascinating business environment operating in the Lloyd's market. I chose TMK in particular due to its excellent reputation, its unique business culture and values, the emphasis it places on the development of its employees and the strength of its well established graduate programme. What have you done since you joined? I joined TMK only recently but have already learned so much and am accountable for a variety of tasks. The programme began with a two week induction, where the other graduates and I spent time learning about each of the key business areas and how they operate collectively. I have started my claims rotations, which is an excellent starting point to oversee all the classes of business requiring interaction with claims managers and adjusters across the department. This provides a valuable insight to the many different types of claims that arise and demonstrates the vast scope of business written by TMK, it is also a great way to integrate with the team. I have also begun my studies for the ACII qualification. The support from TMK is very generous and aims to ensure I am successful in completing my exams.
Graduate's Tale: A Year Later...looking back it is amazing to think just how much I have done and learned... Michael Davis Joined TMK in: 2010 Degree course: Bachelor of Science in Economics at the University of Sheffield ( ) Graduate programme: Claims Why did you choose TMK and the Lloyd's market? My first introduction to the insurance world was through a family member at the age of 16. During a two week placement at a Lloyd s syndicate I was fortunate enough to gain an insight into the unique and novel business environment that exists in the Lloyd s market. I chose TMK not just because of the quality of the graduate programme that was on offer, but because of the high opinion people within the market have about TMK and the way it operates. What have you done since you joined? Looking back, it is amazing to think just how much I have done and learned in a short period of time. The first two weeks were spent meeting the different departments and syndicates within TMK, gaining an overview of who does what and how everything fits together. This, combined with two days of offsite training, gave me and the other new graduates a great introduction to how TMK and the Lloyd s market operates. Then I went on my first claims rotation. I have now got to grips with how the claims department works, shadowing the adjusters and experiencing the wide variety of claims that are dealt with. I have also been given responsibilities for creating reports and contacting brokers.
A Graduate's Tale: Joining a Team Working on the operational side of the business is an important part of the graduate scheme... Laila Khudairi Joined TMK in: 2009 Degree course: Masters in Physics ( ), and MPhys ( ), Warwick University Graduate programme: Underwriting Why did you choose TMK and the Lloyd's market? It was during my second year at university that I first concluded the science lab was not the place for me. I applied for a two-week work experience placement at a London insurance company over the summer holiday and was surprised by the diversity of the business they wrote; I had never considered the vast world beyond motor and travel insurance. I spent two days shadowing a broker at Lloyd s and immediately knew I would love to work there; everything from the atmosphere in the building to the traditional face-toface style of business and the diverse fast-paced environment convinced me that it would provide the kind of challenge I needed. The structure of the TMK graduate programme means we have the opportunity to work with many teams in the company, learning about the business and the people who work here. It provides an excellent grounding for the start of a career in insurance. For this reason as well as the reputation of the company and the support it provides in taking exams, I chose TMK. What have you done since you joined? I have now completed all my placements at TMK, including time with the aviation, accident & health, property, enterprise risk and marine underwriting teams. Each class of business is distinct so it has been important for me to get a chance to experience each before settling into a team. I was also given the fantastic opportunity to spend one month in our offices in Hong Kong and Singapore. I have now joined the enterprise risk division on a permanent basis. Working on the operational side of the business is an important part of the graduate programme, and on completing my two years I gained an excellent exposure to all aspects of the business, in particular the underwriting process and Lloyd s.
