2 David Gallop CEO, Football Federation Australia Introduction Football is the most inclusive sport in Australia and the last year saw numerous landmarks and victories that underlined football s ability to unite all Australians; men, women, young and old from different cultural backgrounds and all corners of our country. The Socceroos took on the world at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and then conquered Asia on home soil by claiming the AFC Asian Cup The Matildas captivated the nation at the 2015 FIFA Women s World Cup while the Western Sydney Wanderers created history by claiming the AFC Champions League. Closer to home, we took the first meaningful steps towards becoming the biggest and most popular sport in Australia by unveiling the Whole of Football Plan, an ambitious 20 year strategy to unite a football community already working together following the launch of the Westfield FFA Cup in There has been lots to be proud of but at the heart of all our success has been the Hyundai A-League clubs, players, members and fans. Football never sleeps but let s take a moment to reflect on the many achievements throughout the last 12 months. Damien de Bohun Head of Hyundai A-League The Hyundai A-League 2015/14 Season culminated in the fifth consecutive sold out Grand Final as Melbourne Victory claimed the Premiership/Championship double for the third time. Congratulations also to Adelaide United for its historic Westfield FFA Cup Final triumph, Canberra United for winning the Westfield W-League and Melbourne City FC for their Foxtel National Youth League title. The increasing impact of football in Australia was evident during the AFC Asian Cup 2015 when sold out stadiums watched the Socceroos become Asian Champions for the first time with a squad that included 18 players who had played in the Hyundai A-League. The Hyundai A-League continues to gain mainstream acceptance on a weekly basis but its place in the football landscape is accelerating with European club heavyweights Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Tottenham, AS Roma and Villarreal thrilling audiences around Australia with a flurry of post-season exhibition matches that was expected to see 500,000 fans attend nine matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast, with millions more watching on television. 2

9 Premiers and Champions Melbourne Victory won a record equalling third Championship with Head Coach Kevin Muscat becoming the first person to win a Championship as a player and coach. Season 10 of the Hyundai A-League produced some of the best on and off field moments including Nathan Burns winning the Johnny Warren Medal and a Melbourne Derby Semi Final played out in front of a crowd of 50,873. Highlighting the quality of the Hyundai A-league, 18 out of 23 players from Australia s triumphant AFC Asian Cup 2015 squad were current or previous Hyundai A-League Players. 9
