1 CONNECTIONS The Dean s List S Welcome to all of our families as we begin our first year of the Lower School! My name is Sonja Menard and I am the Lower School Dean. I have worked for Eagle Ridge Academy for the past three years as the Middle School English teacher and am excited to be a part of the expansion to the Lower School. With the expansion to Kindergarten through fifth grade, we are truly able to be a complete college-preparatory school. September 2010 Upcoming Events September 7 First Day of School September 14 ERA Board Meeting It has been an exciting few weeks since our approval in June. Many families attended the information meeting in July, curriculum was ordered and received, teachers moved into their classrooms, and our Open House was a huge success. It is wonderful to have the start of the year just a few days away. As we prepare for the school year, here s my first list! 1. Practice patience. 2. Communicate. 3. Volunteer. This is just one means of our communication with you. Rest assured that you will receive s from us frequently to update you on the happenings in the K-5 building, Eagle Ridge Academy news, PTO events, and volunteer needs. Please make it part of your routine to check out the web site. We try very hard at both campuses to keep it updated with the latest information. Lower School Communication You ll notice that teachers are beginning to have links to their own class web pages and we have posted phone numbers and addresses on the Staff Directory page. Keep in mind that some teachers do not yet have phones. Those calls are directed to Julie Twetan, our receptionist, and the messages will get passed along to those teachers.

2 Eagle Ridge Academy uses Volunteer Spot to organize, recruit, schedule, and remind our volunteers. We have many activities and events throughout the school year that depend on you our wonderful parents! There are opportunities for every schedule and pocket book. If you d like to be an ERA Time Donor just follow these simple steps: 1) go to & look under the Parents tab 2) click on K-5 Communications, 6-12 Communications, or the PTO page 3) Look at the list of volunteer needs & click on the buttons that interest you 4) Volunteer Spot will walk you through the rest! Volunteering gives you a sneak peek into the social lives of your students, connects you with other wonderful ERA parents, benefits our teachers and students, and makes you simply feel good! 4 Purchase a Spirit Wear T-Shirt to Benefit the PTO Parent teacher organization Family Dues This year we are asking for a $20 donation from each family. This money helps the PTO purchase items for classrooms, provide special treats for teachers & students, & produce a family directory. The PTO s goal this year is to purchase 6 Smart Boards for Eagle Ridge Academy Upper & Lower Schools. Color: Black Price: $ ounce, 100% cotton t-shirt. Features include: Double-needle neck, sleeves and hem. Taped neck and shoulders. These T-shirts are a PTO fundraiser. Each year the PTO will work with IdentityStores to create a unique and new T-Shirt Design. This T-shirt can only be worn to classes on Spirit Wear and Free Dress Days during school year Don't Miss Out purchasing your shirt (Hey Mom & Dad: they come in ADULT sizes too!!!). The PTO's goal is to purchase 6 smart boards this year. Thank you for participating! Family Directory Don t forget to fill out and turn in the Directory Permission Form if you d like to be included. You can print a form from the web site and turn it in to either office by September 15 th, please. 4

5 Transportation Details Car Drop Off: Enter from 54 th St. Pull up to Door #4 in a single file line. Let students off from the right side of the car. Staff will be waiting to help them to the classrooms. 1 st week of school only - you may choose to park and walk your child in. See the map for parking instructions. Bus Drop Off: Buses will arrive at the Upper Campus first to drop off students there. K-5 students will be put on 2 buses (the shuttles) to continue to the Edina campus. Two Lower School staff will be there to assist and ride the shuttles with the students. They will arrive at the Lower Campus and be helped to their classrooms. Car Pick Up: Be sure to have your family car sign visible on the dash or visor. (the white half sheet with your last name & #) Enter from 54 th St. Drive to Door #4 in a single file line. Students will be waiting with their teachers. We will help your child into the car. Do not park and enter the building to pick up. Exit by circling to the left and proceeding to the 54 th St. exit. Bus Pick Up: Students will have their bus badges (passed out by teachers on first day) attached to their backpacks. Staff will get them on the right bus. Buses will go to the Upper School to pick up those students and let off any that are meeting parents there. Then the buses will proceed on their routes. If your child does not arrive home at their stop, call First Student Busing at and give them the child s name, school, route, and stop #. Please notify the school of any changes to your transportation plans by 2pm.
