Plummer Middle School is a campus where there is One Focus, One Goal and where We Expect Success. This newsletter is designed to provide an overview of the district and school policies for parents and students. It is important that you read the information in this newsletter carefully and refer to it when necessary throughout the year. Plummer Middle School embraces a culture of high expectations. It is important that you know the rules and expectations so that the environment remains positive, productive, and conducive to learning. New student orientation is designed to welcome incoming students and their families to Plummer Middle School and to provide information you will find helpful as students make the transition to middle school. Following brief presentations, families will have the opportunity to tour the school and interact with a number of Plummer Middle School s faculty. We encourage all new students and their parents/guardians to attend orientation night. Your child s teachers, counselors, and administrators look forward to meeting you and your child. 2 Student Dress Code Plummer Middle School has a standardized dress code. The standardized dress code allows students to select and wear specific clothing as long as it conforms to the dress code indicated. Pants, skirts, walking shorts (covering the knee) or capris should be khaki, black or navy color. Only these three colors are allowed (NO EXCEPTIONS). Absolutely no sweatpants or denim materials. Pants and shorts must be of uniform material ONLY and pants CAN NOT have elastic at the ankles. Shirts must be solid white, solid navy blue, solid royal blue, or solid royal blue for 7th grade students and solid black or gray for 8th grade students and must be a polo or oxford style with NO writing and NO LOGOS. Only crew neck t-shirts may be worn underneath and they must be WHITE. Shirts must be buttoned modestly, and absolutely no tank tops should be visible! Shirts are required to be tucked in and belted at the waist. Belts must be solid black, brown, white, or clear in color. Jackets must either button or zip completely down the front. Zippers and/or buttons must remain open during school time. No pull-over hoodies, sweatshirts, or jackets are allowed. Denim jeans may be worn only on designated days with a uniform shirt or a school spirit shirt. The blue jeans must be solid colored with no visible designs. Other days may be awarded throughout the year that allow students to wear blue jeans with an appropriate collared shirt. No oversized clothing or large belt buckles are allowed. No apparel, including, shoes, belt buckles, or jewelry may advertise alcohol or drugs, have inappropriate designs, such as skulls, guns, Playboy bunnies, etc., or promote gangs in any way. Students must also comply with the ALDINE ISD dress code rules including: *** NO RED ALLOWED *** The only visible body piercings allowed are earrings for girls. If a tattoo depicts drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, vulgar language, gang affiliation, violence, death, or satanic ideology it must be covered and not visible. Facial hair must be clean-shaven at all times. Beards, goatees or mustaches will not be permitted. Sideburns must be neatly trimmed to extend no lower than the tip of the earlobe. Distractive hair styles or unnatural hair colors are prohibited. Flip flops, slides, stiletto heels, house slippers and shoes with cleats and/or skate-shoes are prohibited. Walkers School Transportation Students who ride the bus should arrive at the bus stop no later than 7:00 a.m. during the first week of school. Students who walk to school MUST not arrive to school before 8:00 a.m., prior to this time there is no adult supervision. Students are to walk to the front of the building and stay in the front of the building. Students are not allowed to horseplay or walk around in the front drop off lot for any reason. This is vital for the safety of our walking students. Car Riders It is essential that car rider students arrive to school on time. School starts at 8:35 AM. In addition, ALL students who are car riders MUST be dropped off and picked up in the drop off lot in the front of the building only. Parents/Guardians please be patient with pick up the first week of school we have several car riders on our campus. We have a process inside and your student will be aware of this process and must follow the process daily to exit the campus as a car rider. Car rider students must be picked up by 4:45 p.m. for the regular school day. Students waiting in the front of the building after 4:45 will be sent to wait with extended day students to ensure safety and supervision. Parents may come to the front office and students will be called for pick-up. Extended day students must be picked up by 5:45. Tutorial transportation is available. DO NOT INSTRUCT YOUR CHILD TO DEVIATE FROM OUR PROCESS.

3 District Cell Phone Policy ALDINE ISD CELL PHONE POLICY Aldine ISD permits students to possess cell phone devices on campus to support student safety before and after school. Cell phones are prohibited at the District Alternative Education Program (Compass) and GAP Center. 1. Cell phones must be turned off and cannot be visible on campus during the school day. 2. The campus includes loading and unloading areas for cars and buses, in the building, or on campus grounds. 3. The school day includes but is not limited to, before or after school, class time, passing periods, lunch periods, after school detention or tutorials, during emergency drills, practices for extracurricular events and field trips. 4. Placing a cell phone on vibrate or texting is not considered off and is prohibited. 5. Using a cell phone to record or video tape is prohibited. 6. Students are not permitted to possess radios, MP3 players, video or audio recorders, DVD players, cameras, games or other electronic devices at school unless prior permission has been obtained by campus administration. Violation of this policy will result in the following: First Offense: 1. The cell phone will be confiscated and returned to a parent or guardian after a seven (7) calendar day waiting period. Second Offense: 1. The cell phone will be confiscated and returned to a parent or guardian after a thirty (30) calendar day waiting period. Third Offense: 1. The cell phone will be confiscated and returned to a parent or guardian after the end of the school year. If the return period ends during a school vacation or holiday the phone will be available for return the first day school is back in session. Any violation of this policy which causes or involves a distraction or interruption of transportation, the instructional environment or leads to the violation of other district rules or policies will be subject to disciplinary action according to the Student Code of Conduct. Failure to comply with a staff directive to turn in a cell phone will be considered defiance of authority and subject to disciplinary action according to the Student Code of Conduct. If parents must contact a student during the school day they are requested to contact the school office for assistance. Students requiring using a phone during the school day must use a school phone available for student use with appropriate permission. Aldine ISD personnel are not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged cell phone or electronic devices. State testing guidelines prohibit cell phones during state testing ( TAKS, TELPAS, STAAR, EOC). Any violation of this policy can result in the invalidation of state assessment scores. Our School receives Federal Funds for Title 1 programs that are part of The No Child Left Behind Act of You have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child s classroom teachers. 4 Attendance Policy Plummer Middle School follows state and district guidelines that govern attendance and tardies. Students must attend 90% of the designated class time for each class in order to receive credit for attendance. This percentage includes excused and unexcused absences. Excused absences are granted for the following reasons: -Personal illness -Serious illness or death in the student s immediate family -Emergency medical or dental attention -Absences approved by the principal in advance -Weather or road conditions making travel dangerous -Quarantine Students must bring a note from a parent or guardian requesting an excused absence for one of the above reasons on the day they return to school.. Unexcused absences include, but are not limited to truancy, missing the bus, over-sleeping, and absences not excused in advance by the principal. Students must be in the classroom with their belongings and supplies before the tardy bell rings. A tardy is earned when a student is not seated in the classroom when the bell rings. NOTE: All doors will be closed when the tardy bell rings. If a student is more than five minutes late to class, he/she will be sent to the office with a referral. CONSEQUENCES FOR BEING TARDY TO CLASS: First Tardy- Student signs TARDY Roster Form. Teacher conferences with the student. Second Tardy Student signs TARDY Roster Form. Teacher conferences with student and contacts parent. Tardy Policy Third Fifth Tardy Teacher assigns After-school D-Hall for the next available After-school D-Hall day. Each additional tardy (6 or more) is an immediate referral to the Assistant Principal s Office. Good attendance is of prime importance for the educational development of each student. A student should never be tardy to school unless it is absolutely necessary. STAGE 1 First Period Tardy 1-6 After-school Detention Hall A student is assigned After-school Detention Hall the following day through the front office upon arriving late to school. STAGE 2 First Period Tardy 5-6 After-school PM Detention Hall & Meet with Parents A student is assigned After-school Detention Hall the following day through the front office upon arriving late to school. Parents are contacted by the AP office and scheduled for a conference with the Administrator, student, and parent. STAGE 3 First Period Tardy 7+ Reflection Room (SAC) all day until 5:30 p.m. A student is assigned to the Reflection Room the same day through the AP office upon arriving late to school or once the teacher sees the 7 th tardy. Parents are contacted by the AP office. This process will continue until the student is no longer tardy to school.

The ID badges will be distributed to the students by the end of the first full week of school. If lost, defaced, or broken a replacement badge will cost $5.00. A temporary paper ID badge will cost $1.00 and is valid for one day only. School Supplies Students individual teachers will provide school supply lists. ALL students will need a notebook, some paper, a pen and a pencil on the first day of school. Agendas Are provided to all students and must be used at all times as a hall pass and to communicate with parents. Replacements cost $5. School Meals Breakfast = No Cost Lunch = No Cost After school Meal = No Cost BACKPACKS Students will NOT have access to lockers; therefore, parents should purchase MESH or CLEAR backpacks for student s materials. Tutorial Schedule Students have the opportunity to stay after school for additional support and are provided an after school meal for free.
