3 Uniplex On-line Dcumentatin Intrductin The aim f this dcument is t prvide samples f the styles, effects, fnt sizes, rulers and s n, used within the n-line dcumentatin. The Uniplex n-line dcumentatin includes fur guides: Technical Guide Device Cnfiguratin Guide Frm-building Tls Release Ntes and three quick reference dcuments: Cmmn Uniplex Shrt-cut Cmmands (landscape) Uniplex Cmmands - Quick Reference (prtrait) Uniplex Cmmands - Quick Reference (landscape) The text layut and page frmat f the n-line guides is identical. When printing r brwsing a guide, yu will see that we have included blank pages frcing new chapters t begin n right-hand pages. This allws yu t phtcpy a guide duble-sided, maintaining the crrect alternating right- and left-hand page layut. The quick reference dcuments are prvided bth in prtrait and landscape, and the cmmn shrt-cut cmmands dcument cntains a strip f cmmands in landscape frmat. Nte: Dcuments are designed t fit cmfrtably n either English A4 r the American equivalent (8.5 x 11). Printing ut this dcument will allw yu t check that yu are using the best printer definitin fr the n-line dcumentatin. If necessary, yu may want t add a new sectin t yur Pcap file and then define a printer interface especially fr it. 4 Uniplex On-line Dcumentatin Printers and Print Styles All the n-line dcuments are Pre-Styled dcuments. This means that the print styles we created specifically fr these dcuments are built int the dcuments themselves. Pre-Styled dcuments cntain special dcument frmat infrmatin detailing the print style and printer class infrmatin. We have defined the fllwing print styles and printer classes fr these dcuments: Print styles: Uniplex Uniplex [==] Used fr all n-line prtrait dcumentatin. Used fr all n-line landscape dcumentatin. Nte: When yu print an n-line dcument, Uniplex will use the actual print style shwn in that dcument. Printer class: Uniplex Uniplex [==] Where this printer class is shwn, yu shuld use a prtrait printer defined in Pcap. Fr example, pstscript. Where this printer class is shwn, yu shuld use a landscape printer defined in Pcap. Fr example, pstscript/l/. Fr example, a dcument whse frmat details shws the fllwing infrmatin: Print Style and Printer : Uniplex [==], Uniplex [==] will print the dcument using the specific-landscape print style. Yu must, hwever, select a landscape printer t print n. Nte: If yu have access t a printer with duplex capability, yu may want t print the n-line guides duble-sided. T d s, enter the cmmand.sn DUPON at the tp f the dcument, r n the first page that yu want t print frm. Page 2

5 Uniplex On-line Dcumentatin Rulers Hw a page is printed is defined by the print style, fnts, and rulers. The n-line guides use a 70 dt ruler. This ruler has been custmized thrughut the dcumentatin t prduce the desired page frmat. We have set a pitch cmmand (.PT) t define the exact width f the printed page. The pitch cmmand defines the exact number f ruler characters per inch. Therefre, the ruler pitch is set t 10.6 and the ruler is 70 characters wide; this gives a text width f 6.6 inches. Fr mre details abut this cmmand, refer t the Wrd Prcessing chapter in the Uniplex II Plus User Guide. Hw THIS Dcument Shuld Print When yu print this dcument, six pages plus the title page shuld print ut. The general layut f each page shuld be: Apprximately 1/2 an inch tp, right, and left margins. Apprximately 2 inch bttm margin. The headers and fters shuld print as: Header: The text "Uniplex On-line Dcumentatin" shuld be left-aligned; the text "" shuld be right-aligned. This is fllwed by a single graphic line spanning the page width (frm the left margin t the right margin). Right hand fter: The text "Page n" shuld be right-aligned. This is preceded by a single graphic line spanning the page width. Left hand fter: The text "Page n" shuld be left-aligned. This is preceded by a single graphic line spanning the page width. Nte: There is n header r fter text n the title page f this dcument. When yu print ut this dcument, yu will see that the page breaks are exactly the same as shwn here. Hwever, the line breaks will nt be exactly the same as shwn since the dcument is printed using a nn-prprtinal fnt. This sentence, therefre, will be the last line printed n this page (between the header and fter). Page 3

8 Uniplex On-line Dcumentatin In additin, the guides cntain line-draw characters and shading effects. The fllwing example shuld print a large square divided int fur smaller squares: These line-draw characters are used fr vertical and hrizntal line-draw; used tgether, they can frm bxes and tables. Shading effects are nly used when actually describing the Wrd Prcessr fill patterns within the n-line dcumentatin. The shading printed by yur printer will depend n its capabilities. Fr example: This shuld print as: pale gray, mid gray, dark gray. This shuld print as: pale gray, mid gray, black. 8-bit characters are nt generally used within the guides, hwever, the appendix Character Tables in the Device Cnfiguratin Guide prvides tables f bth the ASCII character set and the X/OPEN character set extensins. Nte that sme characters are nt defined by Uniplex and therefre their representatins may vary frm printer t printer. Page 6
