1 SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarship applications are available in the Guidance Office, located by Number in the SCHOLARSHIPS file drawer and ONLINE at the CHS Guidance website at Wendy s High School Heisman Award honors high school students who excel in academics, athletics, and community involvement. To be eligible a student must have maintained at least a B grade point average and participated in one of the 27 sports officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High School Associations, and demonstrated active involvement in his or her community. Now through October 2, 2015, class of 2016 graduating seniors can apply at (Number 1) The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognizes the top high school youth volunteer in each state. Information (no applications) are available in guidance. Information and applications available online at Students should complete their online applications by Tuesday, November 3, Nominee(s) must be certified by their school by Tuesday, November 10, (Number 3) The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation in spring/summer of 2016, commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor s degree and US citizenship. (Number 102) AXA Achievement Scholarship one winner from each state, AXA Achievers share these qualities: Ambition and drive, Determination to set and reach goals, Respect for self, family and community, Ability to succeed in college. Apply early as only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted. (Number 1C) WACE National Co op Scholarship Program offers merit scholarships to students who are admitted to one of ten WACE Partner Institutions, Clarkson University, SUNY Oswego, U of Cincinnati, Johnson & Wales University, U of Massachusetts Lowell, RIT, U of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Merrimack College, University of Toledo, Drexel University. Moore Memorial Scholarship administered by the Ghent Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is presented to a Chatham high School Senior who is currently volunteering his/her time to a local Fire Company, Fire Company Auxiliary or Rescue Squad. Applicant must be continuing his/her education either through college or trade school, and have been recommended by the organization where he/she is currently a member. 2 The Sean Patrick French Love of Running Scholarship for seniors who participated in Varsity Cross Country and/or Track & Field for at least 2 years. DEADLINE is December 1, (Number 13) The Sean Patrick French Memorial Scholarship for one female senior and one male senior who express and demonstrate compassion and sensitivity to all types of people. DEADLINE is December 1, (Number 14) The Sean Patrick French Section II XC Good Sportsmanship Scholarship is for two high school seniors who have been selected by NYSPHSAA Section II Cross Country Coaches as Good Sportsmanship Award Winners. DEADLINE is December 1, (Number 15) Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship (Kinderhook Lodge 2530) awards scholarships to high school seniors based on Scholarship, Leadership, and Financial need. Deadline to guidance APRIL 15, (Number 30) Meghan Kraham Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female senior (or more) who are committed to pursuing a post secondary education. The recipients shall be students who, like Meghan Kraham, engaged in community service, strong and positive school spirit through extracurricular school activities, and conducted themselves with a high moral code and serve as a good role model for other students. Students are asked to write an original and creative essay of 1,000 words or less that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage. Describe and analyze an act of political courage by a United States elected official that took place during or after Include an analysis of the obstacles, risks, and consequences associated with the act. Czajkowski, Jr. Memorial Scholarship awarded to a graduating member of the football team who brings a crucial, intangible value to the team and his teammates. 3 Miles of HOPE Breast Cancer Foundation College Scholarships assist college bound high school seniors who have been affected by breast cancer in some way. Information in guidance Must be done online. Deadline to guidance is May 2, (Number 29) The GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program awards roughly 20 college bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships. Must apply online. Scholarship awards THREE scholarships: The $10,000 Major Environmental Career Scholarship The $5,000 Nicholas J. Complete information and applications online at Deadline to Association is February 10, (Number 4) The Boston University Trustee Scholarship Competition where Scholars are selected from high schools around the world, are typically in the top ten percent of their class and are leaders in their schools and communities. The Trustee Scholarship covers full undergraduate tuition plus orientation and mandatory undergraduate student fees for four years. (Number 80) The Martin Tuczinski Community Leadership Award is given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership, an interest in government, patriotism, and community service. Applications in guidance. Deadline to guidance is April 15, (Number 31) NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award is a scholarship for a graduating high school senior who operates his/her own small business. See Guidance or visit for more information and to apply online no later than December 18, (Number 79) The Vanguard Student Recognition Award recognizes outstanding secondary and post secondary level students who are enrolled in CTE programs that are not traditional for their gender. A nontraditional career is an occupation where one sex comprises fewer than 25% of the total employed. Visit the NET website at for a complete list of these occupations. Deadline to Foundation is April 1, Apply online at (Number 88) Fairbank Family Scholarship Fund will award scholarships to two or four year college bound and/or vocational training bound graduating seniors who are dependents of employees of Jiminy Peak or Centerplate employees working at Jiminy Peak. Deadline to Foundation is April 1, Apply online at (Number 89) Quality Printing Scholarship for individuals who have a parent or step parent who has been a full time employee of Quality Printing for not less than five years prior to the application. Deadline to Foundation is April 1, Apply online at (number 90) Sons of the American Revolution George & Stella Knight Essay Contest is for sophomores, juniors or seniors the contest is conducted in three phases: local, state and National. Our National, yet local Society, seeks to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols, the value of American citizenship, and the unifying force of e pluribus unum. Applications and info online at (Number 1B) SEFCU SCHOLARSHIPS for a high school senior who is the primary member on a SEFCU account. Applicants will be judged on academic performance, extracurricular, community and volunteer activities, and the quality and content of a written essay. Please e mail marketing@sefcu.com for the following scholarship application packets: 1. SEFCU Smart Sense Scholarship ($1,000) is open to all college bound high school seniors who are SEFCU members. Deadline to SEFCU is January 15, (Number 18) 2. SEFCU John Ilacqua Memorial Scholarship ($2,500) is available to one high school senior who is a SEFCU member and planning to attend Siena College. The one time scholarship is given to a student with a strong academic record who has demonstrated a commitment to his/her community through volunteerism. Deadline to SEFCU is January 15, (Number 18) 3. New York Credit Union Association (NYCUA) Scholarship ($500 & $1,000) will be awarded to high school seniors. (Number 18) Marion Heath Payn Scholarship Program is administered by the Board of Education of Chatham Central School District from funds received from the estate of Marion Heath Payn. The income from these funds is used to provide scholarships to worthy and needy graduates of Chatham High School. Applications in guidance; deadline is May 2, (Number 36)

5 CEN Manufacturing 2015 Scholarship is awarded to encourage students to consider careers in manufacturing. For high school seniors graduating in 2016 and accepted at an accredited two or four year college, university or trade school and planning to enroll in a major which can lead to qualifying for a position with a manufacturer. Deadline to Organization is March 31, (Number 7) The Ned Carter Scholarship offered by the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York to NYS High School Seniors graduating in June of Student MUST be related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of NYS and MUST reside in NYS. Applicant should be pursuing a post secondary career in the community service related areas of endeavor at a 2 or 4 year college. Applications in guidance or online at or in guidance. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship is for applicant whose parent/legal guardian is a member in good standing with FASNY(Firemen s Association of the State of New York); must be a senior in high school who is enrolled in the fall 2015 school year at an accredited 2/4 year institution of higher learning; is a current junior firefighter, explorer Scout or a RAM volunteer; a volunteer firefighter is a volunteer fire department or a volunteer with an EMS agency; and has demonstrated a commitment to volunteer service and to the community. Applications online at Deadline: applications to FASNY Scholarship Advisory Committee MUST be postmarked by March 15, (Number 91) St. John Fischer College Foreign Language Scholarships are awarded to two high school seniors. These scholarships are available to high school seniors with proficiency in French, German, Italian, or Spanish, a minimum of 1000 SAT or 22 ACT composite score. Students of all majors are eligible with priority given to those students majoring in a foreign language. To qualify, students must apply for admission to the College and be nominated by a teacher or counselor; the nomination package must be postmarked by January 22, Download a nomination package at or call (585) (Number 27) NYS Bar Association Civics Poster / Essay Contest for 11th or 12th grade students sponsored by the NYS Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and Law Youth & Citizenship Committee. Participants may submit one poster and or one essay in the hope and intent that this contest will serve as a platform to enhance students understanding of the US Government through their creative participation.. Award covers the full cost of attendance (tuition, room, and board) per year including stipends for living

Deadline for Ithaca College application complete and on file January 2, Park Scholars Award application deadline January 15, (Number 6) Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Nu Chapter Grant in Aid Scholarship is awarded to a female high school senior graduating in June 2016 and who intends to prepare for a career in the teaching profession. Deadline to guidance is Thursday, February 25, (Number 26) Berkshire Bank Scholarships are offered to HS Seniors with a record of community service who attend a high school in a town served by Berkshire Bank. The Berkshire Bank Foundation will award up to 30 local High School Seniors a $1,500 scholarship. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, a gross family annual income under $75,000, and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or technical school. (Number 106) The Amy Bindelglass Memorial Essay Scholarship to enhance awareness of organ and tissue donation. Must be a high school junior or senior and write a convincing, persuasive essay on the assigned topic, and demonstrate a clear understanding of the regulations and ethics surrounding organ and tissue donation. Submissions must be postmarked by April 1, (Number 55) Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship Upper Hudson Association champions outstanding academic achievement and a liberal education, awarding scholarships to two 2016 high school graduates from the region planning to enter college in the fall of Applicants must have at least a 90% GPA and be in the top 10% of their class. Applications in guidance; must be postmarked no later than Monday, March 7, (Number 37) Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Albany, NY Alumnae Chapter 2016 Scholar Incentive/Merit Awards are given to promote community service and high educational standards with a vital interest in the advancement of opportunities for minority groups, especially youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. Awarded to high school seniors, minimum C+ (75%) GPA, pursuing post secondary education at an accredited institution, in need of financial assistance, and have demonstrated the ability and potential to succeed. Complete applications must be postmarked by Monday, March 21, (Number 119) Spencertown Fire Company Fred Oleynek Memorial Scholarship to a graduating senior who A) has resided at least 2 years in the area serviced by the Spencertown Fire Co. or B) lives within the Austerlitz Fire District and has a parent who is a member in good standing of the Spencertown Fire Co. and c) plans to continue their education at an institution of higher learning. Applications in guidance; deadline to guidance is April 15, (Number 41) Buick Achievers Scholarship Program for high school seniors who plan to enroll full time at a four year college or university in2016/17 and who plan to major in a course focused on engineering technology, or design, with an interest in the automotive industry. 7 The NYS Association of Agricultural Fairs awards scholarships to students in his/her senior year of high school to provide assistance to any student who has been actively involved in local fairs. Application must be downloaded from the NYSAAF website, completed by the student, signed by applicant and parent/guardian and then submitted to one of the member fairs for endorsement. (Number 32) The David, Gladys, & Candace Groudine Scholarship (Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded) The purpose of the David, Gladys, & Candace Groudine Scholarship is intended to help LGBTQA students and their allies who exemplify leadership, academic achievement and commitment to LGBTQA equality. (Number 32) The Gregg Stein Scholarship (One $2,500 scholarship will be awarded) (Number 32) Gregg Stein was the brother of Nicole Stein, who established this scholarship in his name. The purpose of the Gregg Stein Scholarship is intended to help LGBTQA students and their allies who exemplify leadership, academic achievement and commitment to LGBTQA equality who plan to pursue a career in the Arts or a related field. 8 Rider Mills Historical Association F. Fowler Root Scholarship is given in memory of F. Fowler Root to a graduating CHS student planning to further their education and who has shown academic achievement, good character, community/school involvement and the motivation to pursue their field. The amount awarded will be between $1,000 $ Essay explaining choice of college major or field of study required. Applications available in guidance; deadline to guidance is April 14, (Number 47) THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION for the Greater Capital Region Scholarships Information on all the following can be found in file (NUMBER 42): Ad Club Scholarship (up to $3,400): For high school seniors or full time college students, who are planning to enroll or currently enrolled at a Capital Region college or university, who are majoring in public communications, marketing, graphic arts, public relations, or any other communications related curriculum. Bebu Scholarship ($2,100): Established to provide scholarships for minority or economically disadvantaged students planning to attend SUNY Adirondack. The student must be academically highachieving and be able to prove financial need. Michael J. Campbell Memorial Scholarship ($1,500): This award is intended for a graduating senior enrolled in a High School Vocational Education Program in Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie Warren and Washington County of New York State OR a freshman already enrolled in a college or university in pursuit of an Associate's Degree in Construction Technology, Building Construction/Building Trades, Carpentry AAS or AOS, Construction Technology (with carpentry minor), or Construction Technology/Building Construction. Down Syndrome Aim High Scholarship ($1,900): To benefit students who will assist those with Down Syndrome by pursuing education and a career in the field of special education or speech, physical, or occupational therapy. Ruth Goldstein Memorial Music Scholarship ($500): For a graduating senior from a Capital Region high school who will continue on to study music education or music performance. Special consideration will be given to students whose major instrument is of the woodwind family, piano students who accompany others, or students who demonstrate financial need. Gene Robb Journalism Scholarship (up to $4,000): Established to recognize the many significant contributions that Gene Robb, former publisher of the Times Union, made to the field of journalism. The student must have a clearly demonstrated interest in journalism and provide samples of journalistic work. Personal recommendations are required. Peter Gerkman Jr. Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): This scholarship will be awarded to a greater Capital Region high school senior who participated in the high school varsity level football program. The student must plan to attend an accredited trade school, college or university (located in the United States) in pursuit of a degree or vocational certification. The student must have demonstrated scholastic ability with a minimum GPA of 80% and vocational achievement in construction technology. For applications and information visit: Columbia County Association of Town Superintendents Scholarship Applicants must be resident of Columbia County at least two years prior to graduation and must have been accepted by an accredited college in the field of Engineering or the Physical Science. Preference will be given to students who enter the field of Civil Engineering. The financial need of the student, community service and other awards will be considered. 9 Big Mind Learning Scholarship Contest Celebrating the Art of the Personal Essay for high school juniors and seniors. Students will be evaluated purely on the merit of their personal essays in response to a writing prompt. In recognition of the richness and vitality of the personal essay, Big Mind Learning believes that students are most apt to discover their authentic voices when they write about their own lives and beliefs, and will honor students who speak their minds and examine their personal lives in clear, vivid writing. Application form, guidelines and criteria available on the website Submission Deadline to Big Mind Learning is April 1, (Number 35) Paul and Maria Morra Scholarship by Cornell Cooperative Extension is awarded to a current resident of Columbia or Greene Counties and pursuing further academic work beyond high school in the field of horticulture, agriculture, forestry or natural resources. Deadline: Packet must be received by Cornell Cooperative Extension by April 1, (Number 116) The Capital District Chapter of the NY State Society of Professional Engineers is offering scholarships to graduating seniors who intend to pursue engineering as a career. (Number 64) CAP COM Federal Credit Union Weidner Ed Davis Scholarship for graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree. Prepare an essay of no more than 500 words in response to an Essay Question. Must be a member of CAP COM Credit Union. McIver Education Award is presented by CAPSBA, the Capital District School Boards Association, to a graduating senior who is planning a career in public education. Information in guidance. 10 COARC KATHELYN CASWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS will be awarded to two graduating high school students who have been accepted to matriculate in an undergraduate college level program of study leading to career preparation relevant to work with the disabled (e.g. rehabilitation counselor, special education teacher, any allied field). Academic performance and financial need will be the primary criteria. Applications in guidance or on website: Deadline to COARC is May 1, (Number 58) COARC ACES DETERMINATION SCHOLARSHIPS will be awarded to four graduating high school students with a disability. Applicants must be residents of Columbia County or a child of a Coarc employee who have been accepted and matriculated in an undergraduate college level program of study. Applicants must have current Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan on file with their school district and verification of this must be sent by the school district. Academic performance and personal reommendations will be considered in awarding scholarships.
