Check online at Deadline: January 11 January 15 Scholarships The 2010 Gates Millennium Scholars Program is looking for qualified applicants for the scholarship being offered. You must be African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American and have a GPA of 3.3. It is highly recommended that nomination forms be submitted online at Applications are being taken for the 2010 Lauren K. Weinberg Scholarship. This is a ONE-TIME award of $2,500 toward college tuition for a high school senior in public or private school who clearly demonstrates leadership and/or commitment to raising awareness and speaking out for the just, fair and equal treatment of all people by promoting respect, understanding and acceptance. Preference is given to students in Central and Eastern Kentucky. Two runners-up will be eligible for scholarships to Transylvania, University of Kentucky or Georgetown College (subject to certain restrictions). January 15 The only eligibility requirements for the Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarships is that the applicant be enrolled for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American Institute of post-secondary education. For the general awards, the applicant need not be a member of Mensa. Awards will be made on the basis of an essay of fewer than 550 words, which describes the applicant s career, vocational, or academic goal. 2 January 15 Murray State scholarship applications are now available online at All new students are able to submit their scholarship application online and then it their resume/list of activities and letter of recommendation via , fax, or mail. The instructions are listed on the above link. Current MSU students are able to fill out the scholarship application via mygate on the Money tab. Deadline to apply for scholarships are January 15, which means that all scholarship applications and documents must be received in the Office of Financial Aid/Scholarships by Friday, January 15, If you have any questions, contact Christian Cruce at January Ithaca College s Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar Program is offered to exceptional incoming freshmen from ethnic or racial backgrounds that have been historically misrepresented in United States higher education. The program encourages involvement in community service, participation in research seminars, and interaction with distinguished visitors and guest lecturers. It also offers the opportunity for funded international and domestic travel. Each MLK scholar receives up to full tuition in aid, with a minimum merit-based scholarship of $18,000. The Patient Advocate Foundation is offering applications for Scholarship for Survivors program. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support to individuals, under the age of 25 that are or have been diagnosed with cancer or a critical/life threatening disease/illness. The United States Institute of Peace is sponsoring a National Peace Essay contest and has sent information to KDE regarding a scholarship competition for high school students titled the Effectiveness of Nonviolent Civic Action. Byrd Honors Scholarship program provides scholarships up to $1,500 per year for a total of four years. February 20 Lindsey Wilson College will hold its annual competition for the Begley Scholarship their highest academic honor. The Begley Scholarship Program covers the recipient s tuition, room, and board, including trips to study the culture and history of Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and San Francisco will all expenses covered. Scholars will have regular meetings with the president s office and participate in several events each year designed to broaden their intellectual and cultural horizons. February 26 The Kentucky Farm Bureau Foundation will award 54 college scholarships for the current school year. 5 March 1 The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awards new Scholarships each year to qualifying students who are interested in attending the University of Kentucky (UK) or Western Kentucky University (WKU) to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE). Students may also attend the University of Louisville (U of L) J. B. Speed School of Engineering to obtain their BSCE and their Masters in Engineering (MEng). Students may also attend pre-engineering courses at Kentucky State University (KSU) or through the Kentucky Community and Technical College (KCTCS) system and finish their Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) at one of the accredited institutions. This program began in 1948, and the KYTC has awarded nearly 1,700 scholarships, amounting to over $12 million in scholarships since its beginning. We now have 80 scholarship openings each year that are filled with returning students and new students. March 15 The Phillip Duke Owen is being offered to a student that has at least a 2.0 GPA and has demonstrated school spirit and Panther Pride. Eligible applicants must have been an athlete in any school sport or an active participant in other school activities. Financial needs will be considered, but shall not be the primary consideration in selection. 6 March 31 George Crafton Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Amount: $1, Annual Scholarship. Source of Funds: Proceeds from KACD Auxiliary money-making projects, contributions, or gifts from memorials. Eligibility: Applicants must be high school seniors studying agriculture, between graduation and entering college. Students wishing to major in the fields of conservation of natural resources will be favored. Applicants must be enrolled in college at the time the scholarship is presented. An applicant will be eligible for one scholarship only. Application forms will be made available to all eligible students, including family members of Conservation District Supervisors or employees, Natural Resources Conservation Services employees, and Kentucky Division of Conservation employees. Eligible students may obtain an application from the guidance office. 1. Each application must be entirely completed. Required attachments are as follows: Copy of applicant's complete high school transcript. Two original, current letters of recommendation. Applicant's Comprehensive Essay as stated in Section V. of the Scholarship Application. The essay should reflect the applicant's true thoughts and opinions and not be rambling sentences in an effort to fill space. The essays are very important to the judges in making their final decisions. 2. The completed applications along with required attachments are to be submitted to the applicant's local Conservation District. All applications must be signed by the local conservation district to be eligible for consideration by the judging committee. 3. The recipient will be chosen fro EHS or CHHS. A major consideration in awarding the scholarship will be financial need.
