1 SIN-Online Introduction SIN-Online is the portal to all the relevant information you need: course information, course materials, course timetables, grades, announcements, reservations and much more. SIN-Online is based on the channel subscription system: each course has its own channel. Through these channels, Programma Management can provide information specified to your needs. The information is available through the My Page web page in SIN-Online. There are also other channels besides the course channels that could be interesting to you: for example the Bachelor channel and the Master channel. The first time you use SIN-Online: The first time you log in, (see figure 1), you will not have any channel subscriptions and your personal My Page page will be empty. Channel subscriptions are necessary because the SIN- Online uses these subscriptions to create your personal My page. Figure 1 Pagina 1 van 8

2 Instructions how to log in, subscribe and configure the SIN-Online can be found in the Basic steps below. If you follow the first three basic steps you will have setup your own personal My Page in ten minutes. The last Basic step shows you how to view channel information. The 'Advanced' steps are a quick guide to how to use the navigation links on your My Page, use these steps if you get stuck or something isn't clear to you. There is also a help information available in the SIN-Online. Basic steps: How to log onto the SIN-Online - ERNA username and password Channel subscription - Select FBK course channels and subscribe to all the courses you are following - Viewing My Page View channel information - Announcements, grades, timetable, exam statistics, Blackboard, study-guide and administrator links. Advanced steps: My Timetables : view your class, workgroup, exam timetable and view all timetable changes My Grades : view all your preliminary grades My Registrations : enrol yourself for a workgroup of Leeronderzoek or Bachelor Elective etc. My Literature : view your complete literature list Webmail : check your student Configuration Explanation about all these steps: Basic steps: 1) Logging onto the SIN-Online To log onto the SIN-Online you need your ERNA username and password. For the new academic year your ERNA username (123456ab) and password are included with the confirmation letter that informs you that your admission papers have been received by the Pagina 2 van 8

3 Erasmus University. If you have lost or forgotten your ERNA account information contact the FBK helpdesk, G1-39, telephone , or to: After logging in, you ll get your own personal page which is called My Page. As mentioned before, at first this page is almost empty. The first thing you need to do is subscribe to channels. See the next step for information how to subscribe. 2) Subscribe to channels You need to subscribe to channels to get the (course) information that is relevant to you. Each course has its own channel in the SIN-Online. To subscribe to a channel you need to do the following: Click on Subscribe Select FBK Course Channels, or Student Channel (or both by using <ctrl>) in the listbox. (see figure 2) Click on update list ; now all the FBK courses will be shown Select the courses you want to subscribe to Click on Update list/save subscriptions to confirm your choice of subscriptions Figure 2 Pagina 3 van 8

4 After subscribing, you go back to My Page and they will be listed on this page. Next to the course code you see a little box with an S ; here you can unsubsribe, if you by accident made a mistake during the subscriptions. Next to the course name, you will see the direct link to the Blackboard sites. Note that you have to be enrolled for a course in Blackboard before you can enter the site of thec course! Now that you have subscriptions for channels, you can get all the relevant information through the links on My Page: My literature, My Registrations, My grades, My timetable, Webmail etc. 3) Viewing channel information Now that you have subscribed and configured your My Page you can view channel information. Click on the channel on the My Page screen. When you click on the channel you will see the following screen (see figure 4) Figure 4 The following options are available to you for each channel from this page (for more detailed information also see 'Advanced' steps): Pagina 4 van 8

5 Messages Click here to see all new and old announcements. New announcements will also appear on your My Page. The link new message is only available to administrators (teachers). Grades Click grades to see your preliminary grade(s) for this course. To see all your grades go to My grades (see also 'Advanced' steps: My grades). To view your final grades go to Osiris Online. Grade statistics Here you can see how well (or bad ;-) you did in an exam. You can see statistics for each exam. For example: total results, average result and standard deviation. Timetables By clicking on these links you can view the timetable for this channel. If you want a complete timetable with the all your classes, workgroups and exams use the My timetable link (see also 'Advanced' steps: My timetable). Exam statistics Here you can see how well (or bad ;-) you did in an exam. You can see statistics for each exam. For example: total results, average result and standard deviation. Study-guide page On the study-guide page you can find course information: teacher names, persons who you contact for more information, course description, etcetera. 'Advanced' steps 1) My timetable Click on My timetable to view your class timetable. Your class timetable is also based on which channel subscriptions you have. You can personalize your timetable by selecting what you want to be display: daytime and/or evening classes, workgroups (=werkgroepen), exams (see figure 5). And of course you can select a start and end date for the timetable. Clicking Show saves and displays the changes you made to your class timetable. It might happen that you subscribe yourself to courses and the timetables of these course have an overlap. This will be marked in red, see example below. Pagina 5 van 8

6 Figure 5 2) My grades By clicking on My grades you will see your preliminary grades. To view your final grades go to Osiris Online. On My grades you can also see which credits (ECTS) you have received. 3) My literature Here you can find the literature of a course or a link to Blackboard where this information can be found. 4) My Calendar The My Calendar link brings you to your own personal calendar. In the web calendar your classes are already filled in (example). To make your own appointments select the month and year and click on OK. Then select the day you want to make the appointment. To select a time click on the hour for the appointment and enter the relevant information (example). You can send an alert e- mail to your student account (see option on the lower left side). Click on save to save your appointment. Pagina 6 van 8

7 5) My Registrations Individual registration: Clicking My Registrations shows you all (open and closed) registrations for your subscriptions. You can make a registration by selecting the checkbox. To remove your registration deselect the checkbox. Click on Save changes to save your choices. When a registration has closed your selection becomes final and you cannot change it anymore (example). Team registration: Team registrations are a special sort of registration where one person (the team leader) makes a registration for himself and the other team members. The team members will receive a SIN-Online registration confirmation by when they are registered by the teamleader. To register team members the team leader as to register himself first for a team registration. The team leader registers himself by choosing the desired registration under My Registrations and clicking on Save changes. The team leader will get a Registrations report where a warning is issued that the chosen registration is a team registration. A team registration is only valid when all the minimum requirements are fulfilled. By clicking on the Back to registrations page link the team leader can now register the team members. The registration which was chosen will have a blinking team incomplete link (in Internet Explorer the link will not be blinking). By clicking on the team incomplete link the other team members can be registered. Until there are enough team members registered for the team registration the Current size notification will show: Ínsufficient. When enough team members are registered the Current size notification will change into: Sufficient/full. The minimum and maximum size for a team registration is stated at the Team size field. Individual team members can remove their own registration till the registration closes. Only the team leader can remove other members from the team registration. When a registration is canceled both the team member who removes the registration and the team leader will be notified by . Only the team leader can remove the team registration completely. If the team leader wants to remove a team registration the registration needs to be completely empty (all team member must be removed). 6) Webmail With the web mail link you have a quick and easy way to check your mailbox. 7) Configuration There are some specific settings that can be set for My Page, via the Config: Display day or evening classes With this option you can select which classes you want shown in My timetable. You can select both classes (day and evening) if you want to see them all. Pagina 7 van 8

8 GSM phone number Here you can enter the mobile phone number that will be used to sent sms messages to. Please be aware that sms messages will only be send when it is an emergency! Grades/announcements with sms Select these options if you want to receive channel announcements and course grades on your mobile phone. There is no phone charge for you! The sms messages are paid for by the faculty Business Administration. Display recent announcements only Select this if you only want to see announcements on your My Page which you haven't seen before. This option is useful when you have many channel subscriptions (that have a lot of announcements). It removes the clutter. To save a change in your settings click on Save changes. Frequently Asked Questions Can I use SIN-Online at another provider at home? Yes, you can. You can also use SIN-Online in an internetcafe abroad, if you want! Can I read my at another address? No, you can only receive the s on the official Erasmus account. Can I delete an announcement after I have read it? No, you can t. Announcements will be published in your personal My Page as long as the author wants to. Pagina 8 van 8
