3 SMD Utility Set as a Scheduled Task The Windows Task Scheduler provides the ability to schedule tasks and programs to run in the background, at scheduled times. This document will cover the process of how to set up the Message Transfer Utility SMD Utility from within the Windows Task Scheduler, to run at predefined intervals. IMPORTANT NOTE You must be logged onto the Medtech Server machine with ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS. 1.0 Create the SMD Utility Task: 1.1 Go to the Start menu Administrative Tools Task Scheduler to bring up the Task Scheduler window. Or From the Start button select and open up the Control Panel Administrative Tools Schedule Tasks. Copyright Medtech Ltd Page 3 of 14

4 1.2 Click on the Task Scheduler Library (on the left pane) to view the list of existing Scheduled Tasks. 1.3 Click on the Create Task link (on the right pane) to bring up the Create Task window. Note: There are five tabs in this window that need to be configured. 2.0 Scheduler Configuration 2.1 General Tab Enter the name of the task to be displayed in the Task Scheduler window Ensure that the Author field will be displayed with <domain name>\administrator Select the option Run whether user is logged on or not to run the task even if the user logged on or not Copyright Medtech Ltd Page 4 of 14

5 Select the checkbox option Run with highest privileges 2.2 Trigger Tab These trigger settings allow the user to set the schedule. The options can be to schedule the task to run just once, or on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. Copyright Medtech Ltd Page 5 of 14

6 Click on the New button to bring up the New Trigger window. In the New Trigger window: Ensure that the option On a Schedule is selected in the Begin the task field Select the appropriate schedule option from the Settings section. One time If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose a date and time to trigger the task. Daily If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose the recurrence interval for the task, and the date and time of when the Task is to start. An interval of 1 will result in a daily schedule and an interval of 2 will result in the Task being run on an every other day schedule. The task will start at the specified time each day. 7 Weekly If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose the recurrence interval for the task, the date and time to start the task, and the days of the week in which to start the task. An interval of 1 produces a weekly schedule and an interval of 2 produces an every other week schedule. The task will start at the specified time on each of the specified days. Monthly If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose the Months to start the task and the specific days of the month, or the days of the week for the selected months to start the task. Tick the option Repeat task every to set a repetition time interval for the task. Select an appropriate repetition time interval from the respective drop down list to run the task, and then wait for the time interval specified to elapse, before running the task again. Select an appropriate interval from the respective dropdown list to continue this cycle until the duration time period has been met. Copyright Medtech Ltd Page 7 of 14

8 Click on the OK button. The selected trigger details will be displayed in the Trigger tab as shown below: Note: : Please ensure to check that the description of the Trigger is of the schedule that you require. 2.3 Actions Tab The Actions Tab provides further configuration details on the scheduled task. 9 Click on the New button to bring up the New Action window. Ensure that the option Start a Program is selected in the Action field. From within the Settings section, click on the Browse button and select the file SMD Utility from the default location of C:\Program Files\RxSQL\ Note:If your Rx Medical is on a different folder, then navigate to this location. 10 Click on the OK button in the New Action window. The Selected file will be displayed in the Action tab as shown below: 2.4 Trigger Tab The Conditions Tab allows for the configuration of certain conditions, to determine rules on the Scheduled Task. Copyright Medtech Ltd Page 10 of 14

11 Ensure that the option Start the task only if the computer is on AC power is selected. Unselect the option Stop if the computer switches to battery power. Select and tick the option Wake the computer to run this task. 2.5 Settings Tab Finally, the Settings Tab provides further configuration options for the Scheduled Task. Ensure that the options Allow task to be run on demand and Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed are selected Tick the option If the task fails, restart every and select an appropriate time interval from the dropdown list to restart the task if the task fails to run Copyright Medtech Ltd Page 11 of 14

12 Ensure that the option If the running task does not end when requested, force it to stop is selected. If this option is selected, the task will be forced to stop if the task does not respond to a request to stop. 3. Click on the OK button to create a Task. The User Account Information window will be displayed. 4. Enter the Administrator Password and then click on the OK button. 5. The Task for the scheduled SMD Utility has now been created and will be displayed in the Task Scheduler Library as shown below: Copyright Medtech Ltd Page 12 of 14

13 3.0 Delete Scheduled Task Follow these steps below to remove the SMD Message Transfer task from the Scheduled Tasks list. 3.1 Go to the Start menu Administrative Tools Task Scheduler to bring up the Task Scheduler window. Or From the Start button select and open up the Control Panel Administrative Tools Schedule Tasks. 3.2 Click on the Task Scheduler Library (on the left pane) to view the list of existing Scheduled Tasks. 14 3.3 From the Task Scheduler Library screen, scroll down until you locate the SMD Message Transfer scheduled task. 3.4 From the right hand pane of the screen, select the Delete key option. 3.5 A message box will appear, requesting a deletion confirmation. Click on the Yes button to continue with the deletion, or the No button to cancel the deletion.
