5 Creating and Working with Interactive Quizzes S E C T I ON 1 This section describes how to use Kaltura s Interactive Video Quizzes (IVQ) feature in Kaltura s systems. Interactive Video Quizzes (IVQ) integrates and works seamlessly with Kaltura MediaSpace (KMS) and all Kaltura Application Framework (KAF) based applications, such as different Learning Management Systems (LMSs) and Social Business Software (SBSs). The IVQ feature is based on the Kaltura Player version 2.0. Interactive Video Quizzes Overview Adding Interactivity to Media Adding Interactive Video Quizzes (IVQ) to media increases the power of educational and training videos by embedding questions directly into the video. Kaltura s interactive IVQ adds an effective way of imparting information by allowing the viewer to engage directly with the video. The quiz creator can also monitor the video s impact. The IVQ feature increases engagement, enables effectivity measurement, and provides a new way to improve learning outcomes. Features and Options IVQ provides an easy-to-use quiz creation wizard that enables you to create an unlimited number of multiple choice questions with 2-4 optional answers per question. The wizard allows configuration of supportive learning tools that can include options that allow the user to download the questions before taking the quiz, request hints regarding quiz question answers, receive explanations regarding correct or incorrect answers, skip questions and return later to answer them. Users can watch media segments multiple times in preparation for answering questions; and receive feedback, correct answers, and in-depth explanations when completing questions. How Do IVQ Work? Through its easy-to-use interface, the quiz creator can seamlessly embed multiple choice questions at any point in a video. As users watch the video, each question appears at its chosen point; the video continues after the user answers the question. Flexible settings allow quiz creators to choose whether to allow users to repeat sections, skip questions, revise answers, receive hints, and discover the correct answers. Practically, IVQ increases engagement, tests knowledge and retention, and gathers media effectiveness data. On the quiz creator s side, IVQ integrates seamlessly as part of Kaltura s standalone applications like MediaSpace or Kaltura integrated applications on windows and Mac platforms. It can be used with the customer s LMS or SBS such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, BrightSpace, Sakai, SharePoint 2013, Jive, and IBM Connections. On the playback side, IVQ is part of Kaltura player and is supported by the player wherever media quizzes are embedded and presented. Viewing and use is supported on any digital device. Interactive Video Quizzes Information Guide For Quiz Creators 5
6 Creating and Working with Interactive Quizzes The following list provides a few examples of IVQ use cases: IVQ enables the quiz creator to add questions or polls to lectures, training videos, marketing materials, and other media. This enables the creator to increase audience engagement with the media content, and reduce user drop-out rates. IVQ enables the quiz creator to link learning materials directly to test questions so that users received immediate feedback about whether or not they understood the information presented. The IVQ customer can create a lightweight certification system that provides an easy way to present both course material and testing. IVQ enables Kaltura customers to conduct market research, and collect feedback or poll results inside the media used to present information or choices Interactive Video Quizzes Information Guide For Quiz Creators 6
7 S E C T I ON 2 Creating a Quiz with IVQ The IVQ feature enables quiz creators to provide their users with online quizzes defined by the creator and custom-tailored to the needs of the users. The following sections of this document describe how you, the quiz creator, use the IVQ feature to create a quiz. To create a video quiz Log into MediaSpace or into your KAF instance. Click the Add New drop-down menu and choose Video Quiz from the list. The Media Selection window opens. In the Media Selection window, choose the video that you want to create a quiz for. Click Select next to the desired video. After you select your video, MediaSpace or your KAF instance automatically loads the video and opens the Quiz Editor s General window. Leave the text box blank if you do not want a message to appear. c. In-Video tip check this box if you want the default tip text to appear, as illustrated. Important to note that indeed all questions must be answered before the quiz can be submitted. Partially answered quizzes are not accepted by the system, so it is advisable to let your audience know that. d. Drag it to the location where you want it to be. When the question window for that question point opens, click Save to save the new location. To Shuffle your Answers It is important to shuffle your answers so that the correct answer does not always appear at the top of the list. Interactive Video Quizzes Information Guide For Quiz Creators 18
19 Creating a Quiz with IVQ In the question screen, click on the Shuffle button. With each click, the correct answer moves through the list of answers. You can also shuffle your answers manually. Click and hold the left side of an answer to drag it to its new location. When you have the answers in the order you prefer, click Save to save your changes and return to the video screen. To Add a Rationale You can write a rationale for each question. This enables your users to understand why their answers were correct or incorrect when they review them after the quiz was submitted. The rationale is presented together with the feedback on the questions as part of the score page. If you choose not to show a quiz score, the rationale feature ('why') becomes unavailable. To write the rationale for a question, click the light bulb button at the right top of the question screen. The light bulb button opens two options: Why and Hint. If you try perform a different activity before saving your current activity, the Quiz Editor posts this error: Click Cancel to return to your previous activity and save your work. Click OK if you want to continue without saving. To Preview your Quiz A quiz is user-based. A user can take a specific quiz only once. After you playback the Quiz from the Preview screen it will be listed as an Unknown user. If you will be taking the quiz from a different page (not from Preview page) for example, from the entry page, you can only take the quiz once. IVQ also supports anonymous users. If your environment supports unauthenticated (i.e., anonymous) users, you can also preview the quiz from an entry page as an anonymous user, over and over again. These multiple views will be accounted for in the quiz analytics. During its creation process or after you are satisfied with your quiz, the questions and answers, and their placement, click the Preview Quiz button under the Quiz Editor to preview the quiz. A pop-up screen with the quiz, as it will appear to the viewer, is displayed, and you will be able to experience the quiz as you created it. 22 Creating a Quiz with IVQ To edit your quiz, click Actions on the right side below the player. From the drop-down list, choose Edit Quiz. The Quiz Editor opens and you can make any changes you found necessary when you reviewed the quiz video. Interactive Video Quizzes Information Guide For Quiz Creators 22
23 Best Practices S E C T I ON 3 Best Practices The following points cover the best practices, as recommended by Kaltura for quiz creators: Be sure to shuffle your answers. All incorrect answer options should be plausible. It is not recommended to use "all of the above" and "none of the above" as wrong-answer options. Make sure the question is meaningful by itself and represents a definite problem. Keep answer lengths similar. Try not to create trick questions, but rather allow for constructive learning. Use only 1 correct answer and make sure that it is clear why the others are not the correct options. We recommend that you put the last question at the end of the video to keep the user engaged through the entire subject. Interactive Video Quizzes Information Guide For Quiz Creators 23
24 S E C T I ON 4 Taking a Quiz The following section describes how to take a quiz. To Start the Quiz Log into MediaSpace or into your KAF based application.
