04 ANDALUSIA, a leading region Andalusia is internationally renowned as a region at the forefront of research, technological development and industrial manufacturing plants of components and systems within several current and future renewable energy industries. It is for having exceptional natural resources to generate this type of energy, a strong industrial network with international leading companies in the field of components and systems manufacturing plants to generate and to distribute clean energies. Likewise the region has a wide network of researchers and centres that specialize in the renewable energy sector. Map of location of Andalusia in Europe The Regional Government of Andalusia promotes a sustainable energy model based on the diversification of energy resources, saving and energy efficiency in conjunction with the economic, social and technological development of the region.
05 a i For this reason, there is a public network to foster the development of renewable energies led by the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Science and Enterprise, through the Andalusian Energy Agency focused on supporting projects for energy generation as well as the Agency of Innovation and Development of Andalusia, which promotes industrial investments projects and R+D centres. Andalusia is the European region that receives the most solar radiation on its surface area, and thus has suitable climatic characteristics for wind energy exploitation and also generates large amounts of biomass, most of it coming from its strong agricultural industry. Apart from the huge potential coming from its endogenous resources, it is important to highlight its availability to provide new solutions through research teams and specialized companies.
06 A strategic commitment: Andalusian Sustainable Energy Plan The commitment of the Regional Government of PASENER promotes the industrial network in the field of Andalusia to promote renewable energies in the energy technologies as well as fostering a competitive region is regulated by the Andalusian Sustainable Energy model based on the knowledge economy. Plan (PASENER) whose main objective is to consolidate a new sustainable energy model during The Andalusian Law for fostering renewable energies and saving and energy efficiency provides maximum legal The establishment of a new energy model is a strategic coverage to the main strategies of energy development guideline within the Andalusian Regional Government. in the region, promoting the use of renewable energies Its main objectives are the energy diversification, the versus other energy resources, establishing energy exploitation of renewable resources, the right demand saving and efficiency promotion tools from production management and high levels of self-sufficiency at the to consumption and promoting the rational use of the consumption centres. energy resources in the region. The main strategic objectives of PASENER for 2013 are: Contributions of renewable energy resources to the primary energy structure: 18.3% Total electric output installed by means of renewable energies versus total electric output: 39.1% Gross electric energy production by means of renewable resources versus the electric energy consumption: Total contributions of renewable energy resources related to the final consuming-energy: 27.7% 32.2% Reduction of the CO 2 emissions by electric generation unit: 20%
07 a i Main Basic Data on renewable energy in Andalusia Over the past few years, Andalusia has experienced a To follow there is updated information about cumulative sustainable growth in terms of installed output and power capacity installed in Andalusia over the last past energy production coming from renewable resources. The capacity boomed between 2007 and 2008 and it multiplied by 11.5 factor. At the end of 2008, the photovoltaic power related to isolated installations reached 6, kwp. Moreover in Andalusia there are grid-connected photovoltaic installations over private and public building rooves. It allows the promotion of this type of clean technology of distributed electricity generation. Likewise, photovoltaic farms have spread all over the region Unity: MW Source: Andalusian Energy Agency
012 Solar Thermal Energy (Low Temperature) Andalusia is the top Spanish region as for the installed surface, with more than 500,000 m 2 thermal solar collectors at the end of 2008, mainly within the domestic and services sectors usually to water heating for domestic use. At present, facilities with air conditioning are fuelled by thermal solar power by means of absorption technology. Due to its climatic conditions, it is very interesting in Andalusia the use of the sun to generate cooling systems. There are already several installations such as the Engineering School (Seville), the Sciences Museum (Granada), the Regional Ministry for Environment (Seville), etc. m 2 Thermal Solar Collectors installed in Andalusia Unity: m 2 600, , , , , , Source: Andalusian Energy Agency
013 a i Wind Wind capacity installed in Andalusia up to Dec Andalusia is the second ranked Spanish region in terms of wind capacity installed power. Over the past few years, the wind sector has experienced a significant growth due to 32 new wind farms with 684 MW, which contributed 1,291.7 MW in 2007 to the total installed power in the region. According to the latest information of the wind sector, the total power installed in Spain today is 16,740 MW, with an increase of 1,609 MW throughout The growth in Andalusia in 2008 has been 47 % placing Andalusia the fastest growing region for installed wind power Unity: MW Source: Andalusian Energy Agency At the end of 2008, there were 95 wind farms running in Andalusia, with a power of almost 1,900 MW. Today there are 20 wind farms under construction, amounting to 567 MW, thus the capacity power will reach 2,600 MW and 3,484 MW with administrative authorization.
014 Biomass for Thermal Use Biomass is one of the main renewable resources in Andalusia and has major possibilities for development. services and domestic consumption that allow the promotion of this energy use. For this reason, it is the number 1 renewable energy resource for Andalusian energy demand in quantitative terms. The region has long tradition related to biomass consumption by the olive oil industry and the agro food sector. There are currently new sectors mainly residential, The facilities of air conditioning (cold - heat) by means of system district heating for residential sector and / or commercial use are particulary important.
