It is Spain s most-populated region (8.2 million). It has a workforce of nearly four million. Its GDP measures nearly 150 billion across more than 500,000 companies. 6 3. ANDALUSIA IS A LEADING SPANISH REGION FOR THE WIND INDUSTRY Andalusia had nearly 3,000 MW of installed wind capacity at the end of This represents an increase of 400% over the previous 4 years. 7 4. WIND PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN ANDALUSIA S ENERGY MARKET Nearly three-quarters of Andalusia s renewable power generation come from wind. Solar Thermal 6% Biomass 5% The industry includes more than 550 companies, most of them small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). ANDALUSIA IS STRONGLY COMMITTED TO RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT IN WIND THREE REGIONAL INSTITUTES ENABLE COLLABORATIVE R&D AND TESTING FOR WIND ENERGY PROJECTS ANDALUSIAN INSTITUTE OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES (IAER) IAER combines research groups involved in renewable energies at the ten Andalusian universities and works with companies on projects such as developing better and/or lower cost components. CENTRE FOR ADVANCED AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGIES (CATEC) CATEC, based in Seville, offers opportunities for aerodynamics research in the areas of: Material and Processes Automation and Robotics Simulation and software ADVANCED TECHNOLOGICAL CENTRE OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES (CTAER) CTAER was established in Almeria by the Andalusian government in order to collaborate with industrial partners in the development of renewable energy technologies. 13 7. INVESTMENT INCENTIVES 6 Andalusia offers industrial and R&D projects a variety of incentives, for example: 1. Incentive Program for the Promotion of Innovation and Business Development ( ) UP TO 50% OF ELIGIBLE INVESTMENT (depending on the company s size), payable through direct incentives, subsidies, loans, etc. ONLINE APPLICATION and response within two months 2. Jeremy Fund (Joint European Resources for Micro- to Medium-Sized Enterprises) TOTAL OF 235 MILLION available in the form of risk capital, loans, and guarantees 75% funded by the European Commission (ERDF) and 25% by the Andalusian government Provides financial support to foreign companies who want to establish in Andalusia. 3. Technology Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) for R&D and Industry-Academia Cooperation FINANCIAL AID CONSISTING OF A 25% GRANT and a 75% loan (0% interest/3 year grace period) Has funded 235 R&D projects in Andalusia to date 4. Job Training Incentives from the Andalusian Ministry of Employment TRAINING OR HIRING INCENTIVES ( 3,000-4,750) for hiring permanent or young workers 13
