1 The 2015 Corpus Christi Catholic- Christian Community College Scholarship The Scholarship The Corpus Christi College Scholarship (CCCS) is a merit- based financial aid grant awarded to an individual student for the purpose of furthering her/his education. The Scholarship is awarded annually based criteria reflecting the values of our Corpus Christi Catholic- Christian Community, parish involvement, academic and non- academic achievements. Who Is Eligible To Apply? Graduating students whose families are registered, financially participating members of Corpus Christi Catholic- Christian Community (verifiable registration, weekly Offertory/Stewardship and yearly Pastoral Services Appeal since February 2013) may apply for this award. Specific eligibility criterion requires that the successful applicant: Be a high school senior graduating in Spring 2015 Be fully initiated into the Roman Catholic Faith through the reception of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation Be a member of Corpus Christi and a current, active participant in HAVEN Youth Ministry for a minimum of 2 years Have a GPA of at least 3.25 for the last 2 years of high school Be a United States citizen Have a combined SAT score of at least 1500 or a combined ACT score of at least 20 Applied to enroll full time (minimum 12 credit hours or otherwise be classified as a full time student) at an accredited four year college or university in the United States with the intention of completing the requirements of a baccalaureate (BA or BS) degree What Can The Scholarship Be Used For? The financial aid award can only be used for direct educational expenses limited to: tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, and miscellaneous expenses. What Is The Amount Of The Award? The recipient of the award will receive a check in the amount of $5,000. The check will be made payable to the student. This award is intended to provide partial support. All recommendations should be given to the student in a sealed envelope. The student should send the unopened envelopes with the application to the Scholarship Committee. Recommendations that are sent under separate cover must arrive by April 25th. When Is The Application Due? The application, sealed recommendation letters, sealed transcripts and other supporting materials must be received by the Corpus Christi College Scholarship Committee (CCCSC) on or before March 20 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time. Transcripts can come directly from the applicant s school if it is the policy of that institution not to give official documents to students. It is the applicant s responsibility to ensure that all documents arrive before the March 20, 2015 deadline. Candidates are strongly encouraged to utilize the reminders/checklist and submit their complete packages well before the deadline. Where Does The Application Get Submitted? The application should be sent or delivered to: Scholarship Committee Corpus Christi Parish Office Aliso Parkway Aliso Viejo, CA How are Applications Evaluated? Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. In the initial review phase the CCCSC will review each application and rate students based on the established criteria. In evaluating the applicants, the committee will consider the applicant s academic records, test scores, extra curricular activities, community involvement and recommendations with regard to leadership, character and potential. The evaluation will emphasize the information that reveals the student s demonstration of Catholic Page 2
3 Christian values and her/his contributions to our community. The highest rated applicants will be interviewed by the Committee in the second phase of the review process. With these two phases completed, the Committee will meet to select the recipient. What are the Award Recipient s Responsibilities? The scholarship recipient must attend college on a full- time basis in the fall of the year in which the scholarship is awarded and continue in college that entire academic year without interruption, barring illness or emergency. The recipient is responsible for having the CCCSC notified of his/her enrollment and academic progress (GPA) each quarter or semester by the school. When Will the Scholarship Award Recipient Be Notified? The recipient will be notified prior to the Solemnity of Corpus Christi (June 4, 2015). Will the Scholarship Award Recipient Automatically Receive an Award for the Following Year? No. The CCCS is granted for one academic year beginning in the fall semester. The primary objective of the award is to give a graduating high school student an opportunity to get started with her/his college career. What Should the Application Essay Contain? Candidates for the Corpus Christi College Scholarship must write an essay revealing aspects of their personality, goals and achievements and their relationship to the scholarship qualification criteria. The essay enables applicants to highlight those subjective qualities that are not immediately evident from an academic transcript. In the essay applicants will explain how these achievements and experiences have prepared them to take advantage of the Scholarship. Detailing their involvement with the community of Corpus Christi, the applicants will describe ways in which they have contributed to the health of our parish. Describing specific extracurricular activities, students will reveal ways in which they have demonstrated leadership and service. The essay will express to members of the Scholarship Committee how applicants have grown while within our parish and how they see their Catholic Faith providing them a direction as they proceed toward college.
