3 Science courses at WHRHS are based on the Next Generation of Science Standards (NGSS) which allow for teachers to develop a curricular framework that is not only rich in content but also in the practice of science. To this end, teachers are involved in creating a dynamic curriculum via a team based approach rather than an individual approach. This team based approach allows for teaching a broader collaborative process and this sharing of ideas and lab resources expands opportunities for all students.

11 Focus on the Common Core Standards Understanding Math and Problem Solving - Making sense of problems, Critiquing arguments, modeling with mathematics, using structure to identify patterns The importance of engaging students in meaningful mathematical discussion has long been identified as an essential component of students mathematical learning(national Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 2014).

31 Focus on the Common Core Standards Reading: Literature Demonstrate knowledge of 18th through 21st century texts and compare and contrast their themes and literary approaches Reading: Informational Texts Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.

35 Academic Placement and Criteria For 8th graders moving to 9th grade at WHRHS: College Prep: students must have a passing grade in their current English class Accelerated: students must have at least an 85% average and the recommendation of their 8th grade English teacher Honors: students must have at least a 95% average and the recommendation of their 8th grade English teacher. The teacher will consider a student s critical reading skills, analytical writing skills, and work ethic/collaboration.
